Hello guys, it's there any news from NOVA. I don't see many posts in here. are they sending invitations now or it is too late for me. I applied a week ago and I haven't received any notifications. How long normally this process last either for interview or rejections?

Unless you receive a rejection, you're still in the game!

does anyone know if the hurricane that is supposed to hit this week will affect this week's interviews?

does anyone know if the hurricane that is supposed to hit this week will affect this week's interviews?
I doubt it. The hurricane will not be in the area. The state of Florida is very large. At this time, it is forecast to be on the other coast and hitting the panhandle.

Does anyone know if dental students at nova takes classes with student of other healthcare disciplines? Or anything they're big on?

I had my interview at Nova last week and as we were walking between the buildings some of the current students kept screaming "run away", "don't come here", "god helps you guys" I was surprised and felt like they were joking but after my interview I decided to walk around and speak with some of the students these are some of the things they told me which scared the hell out of me:
no respect, or communication between students, faculty, administration, no moral and very toxic and hostile environment created by dean and academic dean, apparently their academic dean mentally tortures them and students self medicate themselves because of all the problems they are dealing with, apparently they don't have student leadership positions anymore like all the students run organizations and clubs are destroyed by deans order, they don't have enough faculty at their sim lab or their clinic, their curriculum is horrible and non-functional, so many students are held back because they don't have enough patients, apparently they don't even have a clinic supervisor or faculty at clinic either, one student told me their facebook accounts, phones, personal emails get monitored like 24/7 which this one sounded crazy, I was told their school is losing its accreditation soon because of all the lawsuits and they all are looking into transferring to different schools. Honestly they seemed pretty stressed and worried and it kinda ruined my happy day too. There was more but I forgot the rest sorry. The interview itself went pretty smooth and chill, there was no pressure at all and we spoke about traveling and food basically. I don't want to discourage you from this school but I would definitely think twice, anyways Nova wasn't my first choice and I have a few more interviews, just wanted to share my experience. Good luck everyone!

Alright! i too am had interview at Nova last week, I was about to let this scandal go away but since you post this and i would like to clarify what you've comment about the school.

My interview was very nice, as i walked around the campus (the day before and interview day) i stop a group of dental students and asked them for direction to Terry building and they're seem to me very happy student no sign of stress or anything, i don't know what the heck you are talking about and i met a whole bunch of current dental students the day before my interviews and ask them a question about the scandal head on... and they said they're happy at Nova and yes first and second years are very hard you have to put more efforts for it.. and it the true for any dental classes no matter where and which school you go to.

More to me like all these Nova bashing posts came from those student who's fail classes and got kick out of school. All you guys are "real" or these posts from one or two persons that got kicked out school (based on the date you register on this forum) ? Stop spreading fault statement about the school, instead start help us "pre-dents" the useful info please..

Edit: concerning about how happy of the faculty: every where I go, faculty members offered to help and they are seem very chill, helpful, relax and happy no sign of pressure or stress from their everyday jobs at all

Where's the rumors that they might lose accreditation from? any sources, or are we doing this solely to repel potential students?

You don't have to get upset with my comment Im not trying to take your acceptance away and I wish you all the best, I was simply sharing my own experience. Im in the same boat as you are, this came from students in light blue color scrubs, so hopefully some of the current students on this forum would comment on this and we will find out if these are truth or not, also as far as talking to faculty we never got a chance or were not scheduled to speak to any faculty.

To all interested in NSU CDM: I do not want to repeat myself, please see my previous posts re dental program here at NOVA. you can also send me mail with specific questions.
If you have concerns you should call the Dean Dr. Linda Niessen or Dr. Abby J. Brodie Associate Dean for Academic Affairs or
Dr Audrey Levitt Galka who mainly deals with D1s. or just ask during your interview.

I find some of the comments by dental-student different from my experience.

Dental students - darker green scrubs
Medical students - blue and light blue
Optometry student - light green

I intent to be at school one day ahead of my scheduled interview on the quest of find out the truth. I talked to most of Dental students (Darker Green Scrubs) by looking at them i saw no sign of stress or any anger instead they are making joke and relax. One time i was inside the building looking at the bulletins board and there came a faculty member approached to me and offers help and this person seem nice and happy, i've talked to various type of students medical, dental, nurses... i didn't hear anything like "run away" or "god help you guys" or anything like that at all, all i hear positive comments beside you have to study alot.
In my opinion, the school is well strutured and it is multi-billions dollars business, i don't think the administrator would risk their high paying jobs just to bring down the school reputation
I just speak what i've been observed during my 2 days at NOVA

I just want to say that some students are upset because the school's rule is to be ethical and do not cheat. I mean every university upholds code of ethics policies and have lots of rules to prevent unethical behaviour. Where I came from it was really reinforced too, we had to go though ethics courses in my undergrad and there were so many rules about it.

If you want to be a dentist then implement ethics in everything you do! There are rules by ADA that every dental school must follow.
See ASDA published articles:
Ethics | ASDA

Read an article on dental students expelled for cheating from Louisiana State University School of Dentistry :
https://www.theadvocate.com/new_orleans/news/education/article_171f59c0-70e1-11e8-b7c0-df51fd4fb246.html

and:
"A cheating scandal at the Indiana University School of Dentistry involves nearly half of the school's second-year dental students.
Several students in the program, which is at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, were expelled."
"Harvard expels students for cheating....."
" NYU Dental Student Expelled"
etc...etc...

Hi everyone! I am interviewing on the 16th but I'm flying in on the 14th so I can see what the area is like. If anyone else is going to be there PM me so we can explore together!

D1: Hunter Green
D2: Navy Blue
D3: Light Blue
D4: Light Green

If you want to know the truth, speak to D3's and D4's. The D1's (Hunter Green) have only been there for a couple of months and of course they're going to lead you to believe this dental school is great bc 1) they're still proud to be there; 2) they haven't been dragged thru hell and back, yet and 3) this is all they know, they weren't there when Nova was a well functioning University. D2's will be able to give you some honest feedback but they don't have patients of their own yet so their experience with the clinic circus is limited.

I'm a current D2 student at NSUCDM. I agree with you that ethics and integrity are vital qualities for a practicing dentist to possess. If only you knew Nova's broad definition of "cheating".

As Millennials, we were raised on the importance of teamwork..."team work makes the dream work"!
Baby Boomers define this as "cheating"..."everyone for themselves".

Let me give you an example. If we (as in dental students) share study guides/notes/resources with others PRIOR TO AN EXAM...this is "cheating" according to Nova. NO ONE has time to make effective study guides for every single exam for every single class D1 year with Nova's curriculum...THIS REQUIRES TEAM WORK.

At the end of the day you have two options: work together (cheating according to Nova) or fail classes. You choose.

The other programs seem to be functioning like they always have.

The dental school hired someone to hack into our private accounts/data/conversations and are now punishing people for jokes that were made and things that were said long ago. If you miss a single day due to being ill...there will be severe consequences. Even with a doctor's note you will be called in by a dean for questioning. I could go on but I won't bc it's a shame this is the dental school I attend.

I wish I could write about how incredible NSUCDM is, but I can't.
I wish I was proud to be part of this University, but I'm not.
I wish my tuition was going towards giving me a quality dental education.

In the LSU case, a girl was dismissed after completing two years of dental school because she "did not report what she knew to school authorities"...we are talking about a quiz, not some life altering information. So again, at the end of the day, you're left with two choices: be a SNITCH or be DISMISSED. You choose. SMH

dmitch007 : this is so true !!: " Millennials, we were raised on the importance of teamwork..."team work makes the dream work"!
Not true for faculty!

throughout schooling every teacher says teamwork, teamwork, you go for a job interview , the same, I went to interview for a research position in one of the universities and they asked me "can you work with a team?" "we want you to be part of our team and work with others on solutions and brainstorm all the time, share your findings", etc...
Once you are in a class universities consider teamwork test preparation cheating. Even when I was attending dental schools interviews they told us that revealing questions from the interview is considered not ethical and it is like cheating, Actually some schools (e.g. U Michigan) made me sign a statement about confidentiality of the interview, do not share anything, there are consequences if you post anything from an interview!. At U Michigan they ask me questions about how I felt about sharing past tests and explain how this is cheating and what would be student's responsibility if he/she witnessed it. ( I bet some people had to lie answering this question!!)
NSU is not singled out when it comes to these situations, all dental schools face them and none want to be in the news with a scandal about cheating, because you know there is always someone who wants to snitch. And I heard that at UDM they were told by ADA that they are being monitored because someone emailed ADA about some sharing of past tests or notes. ( I can't believe that someone had time to do that)

I think dental schools (and ADA) are taking this issue way too far (including NSU CDM) and make students scared and worry and student-faculty trust relationship can't be established.

Honestly, I never thought that sharing old tests from other years was cheating. At the school were I went to sharing old tests among students was common, and even professors shared their old tests with the class before the test so we could practice. Even so, the median grades were average to low bc the old tests had nothing to do with the new ones. Aren't professors supposed to ask different questions every year/create new content for the tests?

The accusation for the school being spending money to hack into student's private accounts and other, if true it's very absurd.. and very low and uneducated. I've met Dr. Lippman and i'm really impressed and admire the level of his intelligent (educated) for me it doesn't making any sense for those highly intelligent as Dean level would stood this low...
Dr Lippman told us before interview he is on SDN all the time, i hope that he read all those post and comments about all of these.

Without going into too much detail, Dr. Lippman has ALWAYS had our backs. Unfortunately, he doesn't have enough say when it comes to what is now our reality. If he was the one making decisions, things would have been handled completely different and we wouldn't be here sharing our experiences with all of you.

pma96: yes using old tests is considered cheating unless the previous tests are provided by your professor. I learned that in an ethics course in my undergrad and that was in a different state and different university ( and of course myself and most students did not know this). It was emphasized to all of the students all the time. I think the rules for what is allowed and what is not allowed should be very clear to student at the start of the program. Dental school is stressful enough!!!

I think enough said. Anyway, this thread is suppose to be for Interview/Acceptance for all new applicants and not discussions on all above topics.

Rejection #1
School:
Nova
Notification date: 10/12
Method of notification: letter in the mail, dated 9/25
Residency: CA
AADSAS mail-out date: 8/9
Application complete date: 8/24 (waiting for official DAT scores)
GPA (science, overall): 4.0, 3.86
DAT (AA/TS/PAT/Reading/any section below a 17): 20/21/22/23/QR15

I'm non-trad, have over 600 volunteer hours, 130 shadow hours, excellent LOR's, and what I felt to be a genuine and strong personal statement. I did make that low QR score due to running out of time and guessing on the final questions remaining, and the only other item I can think of is that some schools have community college bias and don't want too many courses coming from one. I haven't taken the 60 max limit on my courses, but since they're all my science prereqs, I'm wondering.

This is where I went to afford to take all the science prereqs since my original degree was a BA. I made the 95th percentile on the ACS Gen Chem I final exam, went through Anatomy with a dozen cadavers to study in my lab (both of these facts mentioned in each of my LOR's), so I don't know why there is such a bias toward community college. At least the ones here in California are excellent and everyone does their first 2 years in one before spending bigger bucks to finish degrees at the state universities. Is this an east-west coast difference? Do most students do community college first or do high schoolers immediately try to get into 4-year universities from the start?

Dental schools will take into consideration where science prereqs were taken and how many were taken simultaneously. I'm not familiar with the rule but I'd be surprised if ALL science prereqs can be taken at the community college level.
From what I understand, you're better off having a lesser science gpa at a University rather than a 4.0 science gpa at a CC. Hope that helps.

Dont be so quick to discount your comrade’s comment. Not all that glitters is gold

Unless you call and ask why they rejected you, there is not way to know other than speculating.

Just for informative purpose for people that come to the forum to find substantial information about this application cycle. Mayor activity was observed on Oct 10th since a lot of people received rejection letters and interviews.

This info was taken from DAT Bootcamp interview facebook group and just wanted to update here.

I have my Interview on Friday, Dec 7th.
Any out of State or Internation interviewees wanna get together and tour around Fort Lauderdale with me on Saturday.
I am a Candian student, my flight back to Canada is on Sunday.

if you haven't already, try also asking on the FB group "Dental School Interview Bootcamp"!

Does anyone have any experience with rescheduling an interview at Nova? I tried clicking the reschedule link they sent in my interview appointment calendar but it said that "this will immediately cancel your current appointment and will allow you to reschedule."

I wanna see what dates are available before I cancel my current date though. 🙁 Does anyone know if by clicking the link I can reschedule on my old appointment if I choose not to pick another date?

Also I know I should probs just call Nova but it's Sunday 😉

I did reschedule my appointment. After you made your first appointment, you get an email and in that email, they have a link for rescheduling!

Yeah I'm worried that if I try to reschedule now I might get stuffed into a post December 3rd interview. (I'm interviewing on the 21st right now.)

I want to make sure that if I can't get another date within 2 or 3 days of my current interview date that I can go back to the 21st.

I would wait and call tomorrow just to be on the safe side. I think they already sent all pre-december invites so all pre-december dates should be filled, but it's better to ask them directly.

You need to call Norma Concepción HPD Admissions Lead Telephone: (954) 262-1839 Email: [email protected]
Most of the interview dates are taken so you are not in the best position now, for sure you will not get anything within few days of your current interview but most likely something in January. If you talk to Ms. Concepcion she might know of some cancellations and will be able to accommodate you somehow but do not cancel your present interview as someone else might grab it .

Does anyone know on December 3, how nova will contact you to tell you if you're accepted? By call or email?

Last year I got a call from Dr. Lippman and then an email with the acceptance letter followed up 5 days later.
If you are not by your phone Dr. Lippman will leave you a voice mail so then you need to call back right away. best to be by your phone though.
If they can't reach you by phone they will email you but it will be delayed as they will be dealing with over 150 offers.

Just received my first rejection from NOVA today, 11/17. Notified by letter through mail that was dated 11/13. Good luck to everyone!

Is it better to rent a car or rely on uber?
