The official perfect interview thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
My best interviews were the ones where the interviewer and I connected really well, i.e. they really appeared to enjoy my stories and listened intently, really seeming to get a lot out of their time with me. So i guess part of that is having interesting stories to tell, but a lot of that also depends on the interviewer. I told some of those same stories in other interviews, and the interviewers seemed really distracted and flighty, its hard to connect with someone like that.

I would like to know as well i have one more interview coming up tips never hurt 😉

My best interviews I have found tend to end up me not talking about myself and ends up in a conversation that you might have with your buddies. I even made fun of an interviewer and we both laughed = good sign. However I wouldnt recommend it as the interviewer could cry = not good. Just be yourself and you should be ok.

I totaly had the same experienec like ilovehedgehogs. if you connect, then the stories seem more moving. if you dont, then its an uphill battle 🙂

yes conversational interviews ended up the best for me.

I think I had a perfect interview at Dalhousie. I don't know what it was - I was just comfortable - the interviewers were receptive and warm. I love that school. I hope I get in.

Okay everyone. For those who had an amazing interview, share the details here. Why did it rock?

My best actual interview with one person was:

Ten minutes of very probing/difficult questions that made me realize the faculty member was very interested in me and not just shooting the bull or asking trite questions...

Followed by 35 minutes of talking about sports 😀

Got accepted 👍

I don't think there is a "secret" to having an amazing interview. The reason for this is that you are not the sole participant and everything that happens during the interview isn't up to only you. A lot of things depend on your interviewer. Some of them are better and nicer than others, and will make your interview more pleasant and enjoyable, and will therefore affect your perception of it.

Any interview that got me accepted is perfect in my eyes 😉
yes. Who cares if it's perfect. If you get the fat acceptance, that's all that really matters.

At one of my schools, there were three interviews, the first being with an MD. We quickly built a strong rapport, me asking questions about the university and talking about his research. The interview went so well, he actually said "well congratulat....I mean good luck" when I left. And this was the first of three! The second one was a bit rougher, it was with a member of the ADCOM, but he ended up saying "we don't get many students as well rounded as you." Finally, the student interview...she taught one of my Kaplan courses! She actually remembered me, and we had a nice conversation.

I haven't heard back yet, but I've got my fingers crossed! I really liked it there!

For all your interviewers loving you its odd you would be waiting so long.

yeah i have a weird gauge...all the interviews i thought went well i'm still waiting on. the ones i thought i sucked, i got rejected or waitlisted. and the ones i thought were so-so i got in.
