**** The Official University of Detroit Mercy Dental Class of 2024 Interview/Acceptance Thread ****

Did they call?
They did not send out 250 acceptances when their class holds 144 students. You "think" they did but it's just an opinion and it's not backed up by any source.

To add, they also only had 6 interview days so far, the 7th will be in January.
Dr. Chang actually said this at the end of our interview day, they do send out that many initial acceptances.

Dr. Chang told me that they interview about 106 people for 7 Saturday’s in a row...that’s about 742 total interviews (pre-December). He also said that if you don’t get accepted there is a REALLY good chance you get waitlisted. He specifically said the only reason someone gets rejected after an interview is because the interview went really bad. I think they sent out 250 offers on acceptance day trying to fill 140 or so spots.

So, that means roughly 492 people are left to either get rejected or waitlisted, and hardly anybody got rejected. So my guess would be at least 400 something people got waitlisted. Yes, that is a huge number and that doesn’t even include the post December interview people. But, there are a ton of people with great stats that got waitlisted at UDM and will get accepted somewhere else. That is not always the case at other schools...most waitlisted candidates do not have great stats and don’t have any other options which ultimately produces little to none waitlisted movement.

The fact that a big majority of the people waitlisted at UDM will most likely be removing themselves since they got in somewhere else makes UDM‘s waitlist not so bad. UDM is unique in the fact that its waitlist gets ‘trimmed‘ from both sides...One side is getting trimmed from people removing themselves from the waitlist (which rarely happens at other schools) and the other side is getting trimmed from people not accepting the offer from UDM.
How some students said that it is 80% chance of acceptance from the waitlists? Does it make a difference if you are a student at UDM?

I pulled the 250 from previous Detroit mercy threads. That number is straight from the dean of admissions according to the old threads. They have it down to a science of how many seats to offer in order to fill the class size. You’re actually kidding yourself if you think every school doesn't do the same. Especially with a big class size like Detroit has.

Did anyone that sent in their deposits receive a confirmation email that they received it? How long did it take for them to send the email?
I send my deposit on Monday but i have not heard anything yet. can u please let me know if u hear anything or know what should we do

To the people arguing in the thread, its best to keep any negative comments out of this thread. The amount of acceptances does not matter, be hopeful and maybe we will all hear back. Also make sure anyone waitlisted updates their academic grades for this semester before January!

Hi all, I saw many on FB that said they were called and removed off the waitlist today. Trying to get a feel of how many were called. If you were, please share on here!

How do you know?
There is a group on facebook called dental school admissions bootcamp, I joined the grp and a student had post about it, in the comments 2 students said they were accepted from the waitlists as well so total 3

Lmaoo that’s way too specific for anyone to know. You’ll never know how many get accepted off waitlist.

Removed from the waitlist as in... offered acceptance?? Or like no longer under consideration? Sorry if this is a dumb question lol

Ya, you can’t rejected when on waitlist, only accepted or not hear back

Odd not a single person off here commented hearing back. Last years thread showed people heard back around mid January and not the first week, so I’m not sure if they changed it.

I have an interview coming up and wondering if they are interviewing for waitlist or actual seats? I am asking cuz I am already accepted to one school and if they are interviewing for waitlist and It might not worth spending $400 on a flight.

They interview a total of 700, so most likely waitlist.

They do interview for waitlists

They said you could potentially hear back end of january or beginning of february. I'm going to bank on this Friday if not, surely next week. Good luck everyone!

Who said?
There was a separate email sent out by the coordinator of admissions at the same time you received an email notifying you that you were on the waitlist/alternate list. Her email said that “...anymore acceptance calls until the end of January/early February.”

Also, this could mean nothing, but on dental school explorer, it tells you how many days you have to accept an acceptance offer when received on a specific date (ie. if received in December 1st, you have 30 days). Well, on or after February 1st is the next mentioned date (where you have 15 days to accept).

So based on those two things, I would assume either Friday or next week.

I forgot it said that in the email. Deposits were due most likely February 3rd, so if not Friday, it has to be next week for sure.

i was accepted in Dec 3rd.
First deposit was Due Jan 2nd, and second deposit is due Feb 14th. so if you didnt hear in January, expect to hear back after Feb 14th.

So does that mean if people don’t put in their second deposit by February 14, they’re removed? Also, do you mean you have to put multiple deposits down or? I noticed on ADEA Dental Explorer, it showed 3 deposits. First was $1,500 then $1,000 then $1,000. Does that mean once your accepted, you’ll have to make these 3 deposits over a period of time or does it just mean the rounds of acceptances? Really confused off of this as I thought it’s only a single deposit and that’s it.

It's your decision if you want to break down the deposit. The total deposit is $3500, but they give you the option to spilt it into 3 different payments.

You can make 3500 deposit on one payment, or break it down to 3 payments of 1500, 1000, 1000. Feb 14 is the second deposit which is 1000. If people dont pay this deposit on time, they will get removed and people from the waitlist will take their place. But the people from the waitlist should pay 2 payments of 2500 first deposit and 1000 second deposit to reach 3500 before starting dental school.

Like others said, those are just minimum installment amounts. If you wanted to pay more than what was due, they're totally fine with it, as long as they have $2500 from you by their second installment due date, and $3500 by their third installment due date. It's just that whatever you pay, it becomes nonrefundable if you decide not to attend. They are supposedly trying to make the amounts a bit more manageable for a college student. But in a way, it's also trying to force people holding seats to make up their mind. A lot more people drop seats compared to other schools.

Has anyone on the wait list heard back (end of January/beginning of February)?
