**** The Official University of Detroit Mercy Dental Class of 2024 Interview/Acceptance Thread ****

They have over 100 people on the waitlist so it’s very tough to say how many will get in off the waitlist :/

So on the portal my status is still "under review", I’m confused because I've gotten interviews and acceptances at other schools and I’m curious as to why my application is still not complete at this school. Is the same thing happening to anyone else?

Can someone please provide me with the admissions phone number, I tried to google it but I couldn't find anything

3.55 sGPA 3.52 cGPA
19AA 21TS 20PAT 16QR
Stats do not matter at this point. I know people with a 24 DAT that got waitlisted.

True story. My score is a 25 AA/ 26 TS / 20 PAT and I got waitlisted.

Seems to me that interviews make a bigger impression than stats

My stats were 20 AA 21 PAT 20TS 3.55 science GPA , 3.65 OGPA, but I really did connect with my interviewers really well, and seemed to leave a good impression on them as it felt more conversational than a formal q/a interview.

Waitlisted today at 9:30 AM MST. Hope it works out!

Any canadians get accepted? this thread is super quiet lol
Nope. Wait listed. Really surprised about this one, tbh. Maybe they’re salty about Canadians bailing on them if they get into a Canadian school, lol

Most likely denying my seat tomorrow. I hope it comes your way soon!!
(Also I thought I would throw in that I had an 18 DAT and 3.4 GPA, so it was for sure my experience and interview that got me in! It's not just stats)

Are you in-state or out-of-state?

What kind of volunteer and experiences did you have? Basically, what did you have on your application that you think made you unique and you received an interview?

Do we need to confirm our waitlist status? I noticed the email said that only confirmed alternate candidates will be considered. Any thoughts?

It says right in the email to not respond if you want to stay on the wait-list.

They interview 600+ people really, but for getting accepted in the first round, definitely had a good interview. They take the best interviews for the first round, no doubt about it.

I have similar stats and I didnt receive an interview here and its my top school. So I was just wondering if you had anything that stood out o your app that made you get an interview in the first place 🙂

When did u apply?
I fully submitted my application on September 1st.
I have gotten interviews and acceptances at other schools, but for some reason my application at UDM is still under review....I dont get whats taking so long

Did anyone that sent in their deposits receive a confirmation email that they received it? How long did it take for them to send the email?

Everyone on the waitlist wanna like this post so we can get an idea of how many of us there are?
Mercy has a pretty substantial waitlist. Among the majority of schools I have interviewed at, I believe Mercy has one of the largest as they waitlist a good portion of interviewees and continue interviews well past December. Have faith and trust the process, this is my second time applying and I'm IS

Did you also apply to OOS schools the first time you applied? If so, do you mind telling me which ones you applied to and didn’t get it

They interview a lot people and they do get hopes up for many people. They have to have a list of ranked students on the waitlist. It can’t just be randomized, regardless of what the school tells you. It’s a business with a system that’s been working for years. Also, a lot people have low stats that got interviews and get put on the waitlist, that’s why the waitlist can also be a lot more longer than others. I just don’t believe they’ll take a 3.0gpa when on ADEA dental explorer it says they’re lowest sGPA was 3.17 and cGPA was 3.3 for class of 2022.

I know a student with dat 18 and 3.2 gpa who got accepted this cycle

Was the student IS or OOS? IS is more competitive as it’s harder to get off the waitlist and you’re competing with students that would rather choose their IS schools over OOS. This applies to almost all dental schools.

On top of that, based off previous threads, it looks like they have a ranking system that includes your DAT scores, GPA, extracurriculars, personal statement, letters of recommendation, and your interview.

Also note....say they accept an IS applicant that is female, they will replace that student with another female IS student. It’s just a matter of how lucky an applicant is with the students applying this cycle. There is statistics to back this up and UDM is a very diverse school. You have to know there’s only so many of each ethnicity/sex they can choose from.

Dr. Chang told me that they interview about 106 people for 7 Saturday’s in a row...that’s about 742 total interviews (pre-December). He also said that if you don’t get accepted there is a REALLY good chance you get waitlisted. He specifically said the only reason someone gets rejected after an interview is because the interview went really bad. I think they sent out 250 offers on acceptance day trying to fill 140 or so spots.

So, that means roughly 492 people are left to either get rejected or waitlisted, and hardly anybody got rejected. So my guess would be at least 400 something people got waitlisted. Yes, that is a huge number and that doesn’t even include the post December interview people. But, there are a ton of people with great stats that got waitlisted at UDM and will get accepted somewhere else. That is not always the case at other schools...most waitlisted candidates do not have great stats and don’t have any other options which ultimately produces little to none waitlisted movement.

The fact that a big majority of the people waitlisted at UDM will most likely be removing themselves since they got in somewhere else makes UDM‘s waitlist not so bad. UDM is unique in the fact that its waitlist gets ‘trimmed‘ from both sides...One side is getting trimmed from people removing themselves from the waitlist (which rarely happens at other schools) and the other side is getting trimmed from people not accepting the offer from UDM.

the 7 saturdays includes post-dec 2nd interviews?

I think Dr. Chang told us there was one more date for a post-dec interview .... I think it was early January or the end of January I don't remember

They did not send out 250 acceptances when their class holds 144 students. You "think" they did but it's just an opinion and it's not backed up by any source.

To add, they also only had 6 interview days so far, the 7th will be in January.

when they interviewed a total of 614 applicants they sent 293 offers total

instead of bashing someone trying to help why not use the search function?

You do know offers include the waitlist right? Do your research genius.
