The Official UNLV Dental Class of 2020 Interview/Acceptance Thread

For the cumulative GPA and science, is it the with +/- or w/o? and what is the avg score before the interview @darknightzzz?

i think it is the safest to pick the lowest number (either +/- or without) to calculate) as I am not entirely sure. If i recalled correctly, i was told low 20 is the average score. sorry memory wore thin after 3 months.

thanks. I calculated both with and w/o +/- and there wasn't much of a difference for me. I was reading from other older threads and someone mentioned 50-55 range was considered competitive while 55+ (these scores are including the interview scores) is pretty much a guaranteed acceptance. Not sure how accurate that is.

for those that interviewed, how many interviewees were there during that day? and which area/hotel would be a great place to stay? I'm planning to rent a car so it doesn't have to be very close to the school. Thankfully I got my plane ticket for $107 round trip.

Interviewed in September - I think there were about 20-30 of us, but I'm not sure. Last year, they accepted 190/407 interviewees. Metrics for the average acceptee: 3.35sGPA, 3.49cGPA, 19.83AA.

the normal acceptance score is above 50, or close to 50.

Above a 55 is automatically accepted for out of state.

-Dr. Kingsley.
the score means more for OSS, for instate is a little bit different, it depends on the applicant pool (which is usually a lot smaller).

Hi, is the interview open or closed file?

Anyone interviewed on 1/15 heard from them yet? I know at the end of the interview session Dr. Cappuros said we would hear from them in March. But a couple of ppl on here interviewed Friday 1/8 and got accepted on Tuesday the very next week. So I was hoping they've started to call ppl already.

I am Interviewing next friday does anyone have any tips

Hi there!

I read somewhere that the student interview is closed file while the faculty interview is open file.
Can someone verify this for me?

Thank you! 🙂

Have you guys all gotten your acceptance packets? Mine hasn't come yet so just checking!

Im from NV but not LV. Deposit was due by Jan. 4th. You should call them and inform them about this.
Oh I'm an idiot and totally made a mistake about dates. I did indeed get that welcome packet about when the deposit is due and what to include with it but I never received that second round of packets that they said they'd send to all the people who accepted their offers. I totally thought that's what they were talking about here in this thread a week or so ago. So you didn't get that one yet right? Haha sorry!!

Phew, was legitimately nervous for you. LOL

Anybody interviewing on the 19th? I'm currently scheduled for the 12th but I may need to reschedule to the 19th due to a few issues. If anyone on the 19th is willing to switch for a date a week earlier let me know.

just PM'ed you @kjsingh

I have an interview coming up in a couple weeks and I wonder if there's a writing portion?

Hey everyone,

What is the total cost attendance for this school, including living expense for nonresidents. I do understand that nonresidents could obtain residency after first year. I am just wondering the costs for those that interviewed. Thanks a bunch!

Does anyone know how many people paid their deposits so far?

Just a fyi, there's already over 50 deposits paid just for oos, so any oos interviewees are competing for a waitlist spot. And even then, 10-15 people need to withdraw their seat just to get to the waitlist. Not trying to dissuade any future interviewees from going, but those are just the facts.

I guess we'll find out March 8th. I interviewed feb 5th. It seems that a few Jan date interviewers will be reviewed along with all the feb interviewers in March. It's definitely a bummer since I really liked the school, esp the dual degree. There were maybe 20 or so during my interview. So 20x5 or 6 interview dates roughly sums up to 120 people that are potential waitlisters. But during the presentation I think last cycle only had like 30 on waitlist....

does not make sense. so what you are saying is that UNLV over-accepts the OOS? they have 50 deposits already but only for 40 seats?

I vaguely remember looking at the numbers during my interview date and drawing the conclusion that they do send out noticeably more acceptances than there are seats their first round+the beginning of jan added together.

Hey bud, hope it went well for you! fingers crossed for you March 8th!

Thanks! I thought the interviews went extremely well!I wish the interview would weigh more into the application rather than 25%. I did some calculations, and post interview score would put me at 50 pts (assuming that interviews did indeed go well). Fingers crossed...T-23 days lol :xf: seems like such a long wait

That's what they said during the presentation. So they're gonna be well over the class size if some of the OOS people don't withdraw their seat.

nvm, they give you the numbers of acceptances handed out during Dec and Jan. However, at the end of Dec, the deadline to deposit was up, so some people must not have put the deposit and they accepted more (which in the end, if discount the people who turned down the offers, would be over the number of seat, but in reality, it is not)

When i was there, I was told they never accepted more than the allowed number.

im surprised with ur stats you didnt get interviewed sooner. did you apply late?

50 points are basically a shoe in. is this calculated by your assumption of obtaining perfect scores on both interviews?

Yeah, my app was mailed out in September, but beyond that, my gpa makes interviewers puke.

Yea this is assuming I get perfect scores for both interviews...more specifically 50.5 and if I were to get a 4/5 and 5/5 then a 45.5. Idk if these points matter especially when it's pretty late in the cycle and few seats left but good to be hopeful I guess. My undergrad gpa is puke worthy too with a disgusting cherry on top. I still wouldn't mind a foot in the door even if 50 isn't a guaranteed acceptance. I have 0 acceptances so far so the pressure is on.

I don't get it, how do you manage to get that high of a score if you say your GPA is not high (even assuming perfect interviews.)

I got in with just above 40 points ( second wave, assuming I got 4/5 and 4/5 on two interviews).

anyways, hang in there. UNLV is definitely worth it for the price

I know some people, myself included, are holding 2 or more deposits and waiting for HPSP scholarships. With this scholarship, they may/may not drop UNLV. So the waitlist is still a good option.

I have a low 3.0 gpa for both and I think a high bio and oc score helped. The gpa was with the +/- included.

I am one of these out of state giving up my seat this week, was waiting on HPSP to see if I could afford my #1 school. Hope somebody deserving gets it 🙂

does this mean the class is full for out of state?

pretty much lost all hope for by now, interviewed in november 🙁

class is full for oos since jan - late jan I think. when april 1st come around and people commit to one school, you can be bumped from the roster.

hang on tight
