Is that date an in state date only? I don't see it on the invite calendar.

Also, invite #3! Yay

Does UNLV look at our weighted or unweighted GPAs? I've gotten several B's but a fair number of A+'s to cancel them out.

Hope that helps...this is from the ADEA Official Guide to Dental Schools and us their most current published information.

Congrats!!! 🙂

App was complete on July 7. I don't know the batch number - didn't even know that existed!

Forgot to post but also got an interview the other day!
o3.45, s 3.25,
DAT
Bio 23/ GC 23/ OC 23/ QR 22/ RC 25/ PAT 20

Submitted my unofficial scores to them on August 3rd. Very excited to interview here, this is one of my top schools! Good luck to everyone 🙂

Omg that filled up QUICK. I shouldn't have waited to register now I'm on 11/4 🙁 will this effect my chances at all?

Same! I thought I'd come home today and pick a time that didn't interfere with any exams, then I saw your reply and rushed to get 11/4 as well

Just my two cents but I don't think the timing of pre-December interviews will have much effect on decisions they make, considering that schools are not allowed to extend offers of enrollment until Dec 1st.

When I called UNLV about my supp a while back, they said I don't need to send a Resume/CV.
I never sent in a resume and I have an interview with them in October in case anyone was worried about the resume.

Just got an interview invite this morning! An excuse for me to go to Vegas 😉

Method of notification: Email
Residency: Cali
AADSAS mail-out date: 6/6/16
Application complete date: 7/25/16
GPA (science, overall): 3.2, 3.4

I'm going November 4th! I waited one day after I got the invite and September & October filled up so fas.

I just checked and the October 14th day opened up! If anybody is trying to change their date!

I was on Oct 14th, and got notification through both call and email that they had to move the interviews that day and they switched me to the 21st of October. I'm not sure why, did this happen to anyone else?

Not sure if this was mentioned, but do they still use a formula for acceptance?

Yes

On a side note, it may be worth mentioning that (my peers and) I do not know of any applicants who were accepted past January 12th last cycle. There are also no records on sdn of anybody accepted off the waitlist last cycle. Interview early guys and good luck!

The class of 2020 is a little "abnormal" because most people choose to keep their acceptance. No many people declined (due to multiple acceptance). There are people got accepted off the post Jan interview pool but the number is smaller than usual.

How do you like UNLV so far? It is one of the schools I'm pretty interested in attending.

I enjoy my school experience a lot, the early clinical time and classmates. But I'm bias

Not sure if this was mentioned, but do they still use a formula for acceptance?

Courtesy of DrSmiles12:

75% of the applicant is scored based on GPA and certain DAT sections.

Pre-Interview
((CUM GPA + SCI GPA)/8)x(RC/30)x((BIO+QR+OCHEM)/90)x75 = A

Interview Portion
Interview scored on a 1-5 scale with 5 being the best.

((Student interview)/5) x (Faculty interview/5) x 25 = B

A+B = 100 max

--------------------------------

From what I've scoured from some old threads from ~2010, applicants with a total score of 50-55 are competitive and 55+ are practically guaranteed acceptances. I suppose since d-school is more competitive now, I'm assuming mid 50s are competitive and high 50s or even 60s is guaranteed acceptance.

Mathematically, if an applicant's pre-interview score is the 30's or even high 20's, he/she has a decent chance for acceptance (30 preinterview + 25 interview score = 55), since looking at SDN interview feedback, UNLV's interview is pretty chill compared to many other schools, and from what I've read, interviewers give mostly 4's and 5's unless if the interviewee totally botches it.

Interesting for sure

My pre interview secure was 30 exactly and I didn't get an interview... For what it's worth

Hi guys, i'm a dental student from unlv c/o 2020, just a small tip for all of those who got an interview invite: try your best to schedule your interview date as early as posible. Even if the online portal is full, call their number. This has helped me to get in! There's a huge difference between interviewing in january or before vs after january. Good luck!

Think there's any need to try and get earlier than late October?

I haven't been on here much lately since I've been so distraught after taking my DAT. Unlv is my #1 school and they know it.

My pre-interview score is right at 30, I'm a non-traditional student and my sgpa is a 3.3 and overall is a 3.3.
In state applicant
Dat-19aa
20+ in multiple sections, but a 16 in pat and 15 in gchem. Those scores might keep me from getting an interview unfortunately.

Hopefully I can post here with good news soon. My application just got finished in August 15 when I took the DAT, so maybe I'll know more soon. If not I have ochem, biochem, physics, and micro bio 351 to keep me busy for the next couple of months.

Good luck to everyone.

I hope this formula stuff is right, I've got a 43 pre-interview. I think it's somewhat high because I got a 27 in RC which has a huge bearing in the overall score.

I've read that UNLV emphasizes the RC portion, so it looks like you're good!

If this formula is accurate it actually will work to your advantage because it doesn't even factor in the PAT or GC scores, which appear to be your lowest. Hopefully that's the case and you'll be hearing from them soon!

That being said, I highly doubt that any school uses a strictly numerical formula pre-interview based solely on stats. UNLV's website clearly states:

The following factors are considered for admission into the program:

  • Grade Point Average (GPA)
  • Dental Admission Test
  • Letters of Evaluation
  • Interview
  • Commitment to Dentistry
  • Dental/Work Experience
  • Community Service
  • Interpersonal Communication
  • Extenuating Circumstances
I think people seem to get very caught up in numbers and stats, when most schools emphasize a holistic review process. True, numbers are the easiest thing to evaluate, and minimum scores/GPAs/shadowing hours, etc. are posted for some schools. Still, I like to take them at their word and assume they are looking at the whole application and trying to get a feel for this person that is applying - not just a set of numbers. 🙂

Well I hope that is the case as well. I get these scores while working full time, supporting a family, and shadowing a dentist. I sent in 7 LOR's 2 from alumni and got a personal req from the retired dean...

Also have worked in the medical field in the past for 4 years. I'm just crossing my fingers and hoping for the best. If not I'll retake the dat next summer and go for a reapply. That extra year is just big to me due to my children getting older and I don't like spending their whole childhood with me being in school.

For what its worth, I'd love to have people like yourself in my class. I'm 25 so am somewhat older, and it would be nice to have people that have kids and stuff. Adds maturity to the whole process you know?

26 over here, I can relate.. aside from what's listed on the website, can any current students tell me what their favorite part about the school is??

Only somewhat older? I am 38 and it looks like we're applying to several of the same schools. My husband jokes that I'll be like the dental school mom. I like to think I'll be more like the cool aunt. 😉

It sounds like we are in very similar situations. I have four kids and darnit, they keep getting older every day! Best of luck to you jdenney741.

lol I'm turning 26 soon, had a very different career beforehand. No kids or wife though, so much easier for me to make a change 😛

I've seen earlier mentions on here that January or later interviews are typically bad news, what about December interviews? I'm scheduled for December 2nd but I'll try and move it up to an earlier date if it's a big issue.
