I will say last yr we had a relative paucity of people who scrambled. Mostly people who didnt quite fit their fields personality wise or people with poors numbers. It doesnt seem to be the case this yr.

So I guess I matched in Vegas considering I ranked them #1. That is, unless they decided not to rank me. In n Out must have filled. There were talks amonst my interview group that they really wanted to go check out the In-N-Out program after the interview day was done.

They try not to be fascist about it, but they seem to highly discourage not going to the match thing. Like I said, they let us opt out of reading it in front of everyone, but it makes it look like we are hiding something...🙄

I wonder if people act super happy even if they are totally bummed OR they just kind of make this face like "that sucks".

ST and McNinja, I'm happy you both have slots for next year. Although far from ideal, you will be busy and will learn a lot. For those still inlimbo, I hope tomorrow brings you some peace.

Although I matched, I agree this whole process is insane. I only ranked 5 schools (applied to 8) due to location restrictions. Matching to one of the bottom three, although they are great programs, would mean moving. I have a husband, three kids, my parents 3 miles away, a nanny, etc. To uproot my family after we have lived in this home for 16 years would be really tough. The posts of the last few days make me very thankful, but nervous as hell. I am trying not to get too worked up, but, geez could they drag this out any longer. 😱

Line from my school is that 9 scrabmbled, out of 130's, not too bad, considering (still does'nt make me feel any better). Do you think that the whole "outside the match" might have some thing to do with this?

It might not completely explain the numbers, but it might add a component to the equation.

This might be old news to you people, but have any of you seen the Chuck Norris commercial? I guess some kids made a joke computer program that shows them kicking Chuck and then he goes and finds them and rewrites the program. I can't even remember what the ad was for, but I thought that it was about time for some ad featuring Chuck Norris. In fact, it might be a little late.

Yeahh, I guess that bodes well for me too! I also ranked them #1, and I matched "somewhere"!!!🙂
 
You know I am now just so relieved to have matched instead of feeling joy because of the folks that had to scramble and the lives disrupted. This whole thing is just so hard to take in, I wish I could do something to help. Not much of a boozer as I am prone to awful hangovers but after the match is over I am going to have a few and my first one will be in tribute to all of you that had to scramble. I am sure you will get what you want in the end but may the road be kinder than it seems today. Thinking of you tonight.

Read somewhere else that there's some new EM programs opening next year. I think I saw something about Corpus Christi, but anybody know the other ones?

wow, ruff couple of days...still feel like ****...haven't cried yet though, lol...got nothing in the scramble so far, still wanna do EM...u guys have some good advice to offer?

I ranked Vegas #1 as well and matched some where....hmmm...we may be working side by side next year!!

I'm still really nervous b/c about a month ago I heard that they were not ranking very many people...which probably explains their current situation with the scramble, especially being a new program.

I am really sorry. As said above, a year doing something different than EM can still lead you right back to EM. Also, as mentioned in this thread or another match thread, an extra year makes you a better candidate than a MS4 simply based on experience. You can get a 3 year spot next year and still be in EM in 4 years. Surely there are some prelims years and FM spots kicking around?!? Not what you wanted but also not end of the world. 😳

Weird...this was also the worst year in decades for my school. 16/150 scramblers, usually it is fewer than 8, last year it was 6. This is all just very strange. Esp. the numbers for Ob and medicine. I mean 6 open Ob spots and only 78 medicine!!

Just a question! So if you do a prelim year or fm year and then reapply to 3 yr em are you still fully funded throughout your residency?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think only TY and prelim don't count towards the funding.

OMG, my medicine month was at the VA last month and medicine admits everything for every service after hours. You do all their orders, and all their work in general! And our VA has no real emergency department, just an urgent care clinic staffed with medicine upper levels. It can seriously take all night to work up someone critical, and then they just go to the ICU where I assure you...you don't want to end up!
 
What's sad is that I thought getting into med school was nerve-racking enough. The match is now making me more nervous than ever, and I still have a few years. My thought is that if it is that competitive now, what will it be like in 3 years when I get there? Hopefully, since med schools tend to be expanding, they consider this and open up more residency programs. (At my school, last year's class started at 250, and this year we were up to almost 270.) You guys seem to have smaller class sizes, but have your schools also expanded? (Also, there are more med schools open now...arrrgh more competition)

Corpus Christi is open for business. General Veers posted a link to the program website recently.
 
The rumor is that we have 17 of 200+ scrambling. This is a signif change. Yikes....all I have to do for the next 25 hours is read sdn.

I am wondering what was different this year too...it seems like every class had more people scrambling than in the last 5 years!!
Were there tons more people in the match? (and if so, where did they come from?!)
