Its getting a little too lovey-dovey in here before the big game tonight.

I apologize for any ******ed longhorns above, we as a whole are not like that at all. Big game with the aggies coming soon, hook em'!
 
I just got an email from Filo at TAMU saying i'm on the waitlist. So i called to try and get a feel for how many people are on the list and how many they generally take off. Needless to say there was a lot of variability and she couldn't tell me this years specifics.

She said that they can have between 20 and 200 people on the waitlist (depending on the year), it is unranked, and have taken as few as none, and as many as 10 off the waitlist in the past. Now, if the most you've ever taken off has been 10, why would you even bother having 200 people on the waitlist?

Does anyone at TAMU know any more info pertaining to TAMU. AggieSarah, you seem to have some inside sources.... or if anyone else wants to shine some light on the subject, that'd be great as well.

WERD Anastasis! That is an unfortunate reality. I, for the record, am not an dingus and am 1000% against anyone being an dingus. **** talk is one thing, saying you are glad people were hurt/killed is f'in ridiculous.

FWIW, I was poking a little fun at myself/Texas Tech in the hopes it would elicit a laugh or two, not to incite a fight. I know there are inherent difficulties in interpreting other's emotions/intent through the Times New Roman font but rest assured that most anything I say on these forums is in jest or at least not intended to piss anyone off......I have written enough.

i actually have a feeling that the waitlist is pretty big this year as everyone that interviewed and didn't get in is on the waitlist. i called the admissions coordinator and she told me what you just said. she couldn't release specifics, and it all depends on how many people decline. people need to start dropping TAMU!
 
Does anyone know when UTSA will start offering scholarships? Do they usually do a pretty good job at giving out merit money?

By the way.... After KU beats Texas this Weekend, KU=#1 in the rankings

unfortunately when the alternative to going to class is writing a 10 page summary of the class that you opted to miss, then class is most likely the best option...

Oh I for one totally took it as poking fun and not serious... hence the little laughing faces. I remember when I lived in the UK and would tell my work friends about the Texas rivalries they either 1. Thought we were all insane or 2. Thought it was funny as hell all around.

Now that I've taken a breather.......

I for once do not have the answer. 🙁 Shocking I know 😛 I haven't heard anymore about what TAMU is doing with the waitlist. My roommate has been studying a ton so she hasn't been around for me to pick her brain. I think it was posted somewhere else, but someone did mention that TAMU probably wouldn't have much movement because the majority of people who accepted TAMU ranked it number one or two in the match. Very few who accepted a pre-match to TAMU ranked it any lower. 🙁 Sorry for bumming people out if I just did. I also do know you can email Dr. Kellaway at UTH and ask if you are on the waitlist. They finally sent out packets to us so they are probably starting to knock out the waitlist stuff now. (I do feel like UTH has been the slowest with getting info out.)

And, I can also say I honestly don't know why ANY school has so many people on their waitlist. I think they do that when they have a pool so that they can have the largest number of choices to pull from when someone drops. I think it does give false hope, but then again you should never give up hope. I think the best thing to do is what my dad told me, plan for everything the way it is set right now. If you're accepted at a lower school, get all set up there. If you're not, start planning what you'll be doing for the next year and begin editing your ps, whatever it is you feel you need to do. Get excited and involved in whatever you're going to be doing for the next year, even though I know it is hard with all the disappointment people have faced. Then, if you do get of a waitlist, honestly, you can drop whatever it was you were planning. I mean sure it would be a pain, and you would have put a lot of energy into other stuff, but you'd have gotten into med school!! How amazing is that?! It would totally outweigh any inconvenience you would go through. And if it wouldn't, perhaps you shouldn't be going to med school anyway. And if what you've planned IS that big, try to defer. No biggie.

I know it sucks, but we've all got to deal with whatever stupid stuff TMDSAS/the schools dished out this year and give 'em hell next year. I am totally wishing you guys TONS of luck. Even if you go to that other school in Austin. Or if you're at the community college in Lubbcok. Or if you go to the school where they wave their hand around like a gay man while saying sic 'em (not that there's anything wrong with that!🙂). (and please take this all in humor. I really do mean it funnyways 🙂).

and since I WILL be at the women's game tonight, and since the men will be away, I wanted to show you all what was called "The Shot"

Oh yeah and can I say it is NOT RIGHT that KU is above us in the Big XII. WE BEAT THEM!! IN KANSAS!!! therefore we are better! GOSH! 🙂
 
Sigh.....well, as 80% of the people on the tx thread go and engage in their respective pregame rituals, I have a ? for the rest of you. Does living in the same state as the Longhorn/Aggie rivalry make anyone else long for the relative safety and sanity of MAD and the Cold War years? I don't know which is worse, joining a cow worshipping cult that requires usage of a mutilated form of the Vulcan greeting gesture (probably because they just aren't physically gifted enough to pull off the real deal) that's the result of years of hard core research at UTAustin (the invention allows alumni to pick both nostrils simultaneously). Or, actually being called an Aggie the rest of one's life and being brainwashed to the point that you can proudly emit what's either a hillbilly mating call (might explain why most "Aggies" don't seem like good college material...they're simply the result of extensive alumni inbreeding) or a bad Arsenio Hall imitation.

I say go to a university like mine, which has absolutely no school spirit. We have about 25,000 students, yet no one has heard of us. We have no football team. In short, we know we suck, and this knowledge has given us envy....er....liberation.
 
Being stuck between/near A&M and UT definitely has its drawbacks. Especially during football season.

But we have plenty of Aggie jokes, so that keeps class interesting.

I went to UT Arlington, which is pretty much UT in name only. We have a different mascot. Our only claim to fame that I'm aware of is that our wheelchair basketball team has won several national championships.

Depends upon your definition of "require." At UTSW, you can still be eligible for all Federal aid without parental information, but you will not be considered for any UTSW institutional aid without parental information. Call the Fin. Aid office of the school in question to be crystal clear about their policy because not putting parental info may disqualify you from a lot of programs.

Actually, if TX beats KU they will have the #1 seed in the Big 12 tourney b/c they have a better division record.

All 3 schools would be Big 12 champs though.

I interviewed, did not get in, and am not waitlist. I got a letter from A&M a few weeks ago letting me know they were sorry but couldn't offer me a spot in this year's class. No other school did this, so I don't think it had anything to do with not being my #1 choice.

So much for alma mater mattering 🙂

Sorry, this is one of the more irrational things I have heard on this board.

Why would A&M waitlist you when they know you matched at a school you ranked higher on match day (I presume Southwestern)? They know they would be wasting their time with you. While it may seem like they were the ones that rejected you b/c you are a holding a piece of paper stating just that, trust me, you rejected them.

El Paso for sure. And I've heard rumors of moving UTMB to Austin. And someone once posted something about Univ of Houston making a med school (but I believe they want to but I don't think it is going to happen anytime soon since it has to be approved by the legislature and there has been no talk of any new med schools other than El Paso)

I don't think they will move UTMB to Austin, but I do think Austin may get it's own school.

I thought the University of Houston was "semi-private"? I'm sure they will eventually get a school if some big wig will cough up an endowment.
