Now I'm confused...I thought I knew who Mr H was.

I was just calling KSZ what zanzounita was calling him. If she's an international woman of mystery, then I want to emulate her...! For the record, the only person on SDN I have met in person, is Mo.

Aaah man, 4 Interviews and no match, that makes a cold chill run down my spine. :scared:

Called UTH this morning, they said that all Interview slots were filled, so that pretty much wraps all TX schools for me. This sucks ......... 🙁

Sorry about Houston, but you're going to rock UTSW anyway!!

Those of you who didn't get in last year, but got pre-match, what did you change?

!!!so calling all re-apps who received a prematch offer!!!

well, i just applied earlier and shadowed a doctor over the spring. its very important that you show some extra effort in your application like more clinical exp. or retake mcat etc... i know the waiting will be tough (for match and waitlists) but hang in there and good luck

Those of you who didn't get in last year, but got pre-match, what did you change?

Honestly, not much. But then again, that's the answer I got from most everybody (namely deans of admissions) when I asked what I could change from last cycle. I took time off and then got a J-O-B. 😛 Biggest factor: connections. I think 30 min interviews were just too short for me, I needed more to show people my biggest asset, which I like to think is my personality (go ahead, correct me if I'm wrong!). 😉 Getting my job here (at UTH) and talking to many different people about my dreams of going into medicine did the trick for me. So my advice: show interest, LOTS and LOTS of interest. 👍

Those of you who didn't get in last year, but got pre-match, what did you change?

1. I shadowed a urologist and an internist for abt 4 or 5 months. I had done very little shadowing previously.
2. I also worked in a nursing home with the therapy department for abt 5 months. All of my previous jobs had little to do with healthcare.
3. I took the interview process more seriously: did more research abt the schools that i was interviewing with; more self analysis; and tried to act more enthusiastic at my interviews.

I was pretty much done with college during all of this (took a few correspondence courses to finish), which made it easier to shadow and work in healthcare.
#'s 1 and 2 above helped me a lot bc they gave me more to talk abt in my application and at my interviews.

bump. this thread shouldn't be on page 2 🙁

Mike Huckabee's border control plan? Chuck Norris.

Mike Huckabee's border control plan? Chuck Norris.

Chuck Norris doesn't endorse a candidate. He tells America how its gonna be.

p.s. congrats on getting married! I saw some facebook pics and you both look AMAZING!
p.p.s. yes I am a stalker

I loved that at his post-victory speech in Iowa, Chuck Norris was RIGHT there (yes, my wife and I watched the caucuses while on honeymoon).

Evolution? No such thing. Just a list of animals Chuck Norris allows to live.

p.s. Thanks! It was a great time.

p.p.s. Thank for your correct usage of "p.p.s" and not saying "p.s.s." Anyone who has studied a little Latin knows how wrong "p.s.s." is. Seriously. Never question Chuck Norris.

It is believed dinosaurs are extinct due to a giant meteor. That's true if you want to call Chuck Norris a giant meteor.

Haha.

Didn't you say you had a UTH int in Jan? If so good luck.

I saw your pics too.. very nice! That Kyle Field cake definitely took some talent to make.

Where did you honeymoon?

Thanks! I was very proud of that Kyle Field cake. I wanted them to put "38-30" on the scoreboard, but I didn't get to it in time. 🙁
We honeymooned at an all-inclusive resort in Cozumel for 5 nights. It was great!

Also, there is a Texas A&M College of Medicine Class of 2012 facebook group for all interested:

I don't hate everyone.... just.. ARG. ITS TRUE!!!! 😛

what kinda job did you get at UTH diana?

I'm a lowly research assistant 😛, but hey...my group is seriously just awesome, I make a little chunk change, and it got my foot in the door. 😉 Couldn't ask for anything better!

P.S. I love the Texas thread 🙂 I love it so much every time I see the UTAH thread, I always read it as UT -A - H as opposed to thinking it is the name of a state. as if UT AH is some separate Texas school

i must be getting senile in my old age 🙂 jk

They could use this to get rid of the match! A few simple questions and voila, here is your placement.

How about replacing TMDSAS with a similar system?

I have a feeling that this has been discussed ad nauseum elsewhere but I was wondering if anyone has a rough idea what proportion of this year's class Houston plans on filling via the match. I ask because I am trying to weigh the benefit of going to my interview on the 9th.

I interviewed at Tech, A&M, and San Antonio in September and received prematch offers from Tech and San Antonio. I was pleased because I absolutely loved San Antonio. I considered the application process complete since I had received no other interview offers. Since my application went out in the first batch last June I figured that any school that wanted to interview me would have done so by now. Needless to say, I was surprised when Houston sent me an interview invitation.

I obviously was not a person that ranked very high on their list of applicants if they waited until now to grant me an interview. If most of their class has already been filled I wonder if I would just be wasting my time and money by traveling to Houston. Part of me thinks that I owe it to myself to check it out but another part of me thinks that if I liked San Antonio so much I should just save my time and money.

I love how Derm and Optho fall under "not hardworking."

. . . .rriightt. If only.

if you're pretty sure that san antonio is the place you want to be and that nothing is going to change that, there's not really much of a point to going to the interview.

however, if that's not the case and you feel that houston may potentially be a place you would want to be, go and check it out. considering that they are filling most of their class via match, the first person they interviewed in this application cycle means just as much to the as the last person they will interview.

just keep in mind -- they are the one school that will be leaning heavily on the match. if you don't think they have the potential of stealing your number one ranking away from, i'm guessing, san antonio, save the money and the time.

either way, congrats on all your success up to this point. see you around the water cooler.

Does anyone know if San Antonio is heavy on pre-match or not. I have an interview on monday and I am wondering how many spots may be left with such a later interview.

From what has been said on here houston didn't over fill their class prematch like some of the other schools, so they may still have a large portion of offers to make (hopefully 🙂)

As for the interview, if you seriously see yourself considering being in houston go to the interview and see what you think. If you think it's a slim to none chance that you could ever love some place more than SA, withdraw on monday so someone else could get the spot (I know there are people here who deserve to have it 👍)

If you do go I'll see ya there on wednesday!

Everyone thought they were trying to completely fill pre-match, BUT, as of last week, they are saying they are anticipating filling half the class through the match.

Someone said earlier that they are filling about half of their class with match offers. So have hope! That said, not sure what the likelihood of getting in from a late interview is as opposed to an earlier one. Good luck!

Awesome!

Also, Happy belated Birthday Sarah. :hardy:

I've come down with yet another nasty virus (or something along those lines) this season. For a person that rarely got sick, this is the 2nd time i've been sick in the past 2 months. Last night I had two heating pads underneath me, two blankets on top of me, while I was wearing 2 shirts, shorts, pants, socks, and a beanie ........ and I was still shivering. Anyone else heard of or seen anything this bad anytime recently? :barf:

Anyone know how to release an acceptance to a school? I already signed the acceptance form to UTMB before my other acceptances. Is a phone call ok? An e-mail? Or a letter?

Sounds like someone's team lost in the playoffs yesterday🙂

According to the above chart, two of my fav specialties are the ones under "crazy". At least I'm consistent.

Here's another humorous take on the specialties:

they say UTH is only trying to fill 10% of the class pre-match.

If that is true then I think I will go to the interview. I must admit that it is hard to mentally gear up for another interview when all of my other interviews were nearly four months ago. Plus, being 33 I stick out from all the other applicants so I invariably find some fellow interviewee that makes some ridiculous comment regarding my age. Some of my favorites are "do you think you will be able to stay awake during residency?", "if I was your age I would be an attending by now", and my favorite, "you must be the token non-traditional student."

Yeah I mean what if it's raining that day, I hope your arthritis doesn't keep you from going on the campus tours! haha, just kidding with you 😛

Seriously even at mid thirties you still have like at least a 30 year career ahead of you, you shouldn't let the dumb kids keep you down.

I'll be at the interview on Wed, and I'm 27. We can form an old farts clique and grumble at all the young whipper-snappers.

I know this has been asked over and over but...does anyone truely know what the validation date means or is it just rumors and conspiracy theories?

*poke* Us young "whipper-snappers" have our eyes on you...

It's the date they double check your application and college work to make sure everything is in order. With 4000+ applications in a cycle, they're bound to make mistakes.

I can't believe people actually said that crap to you. Jeez.

Not if the adcom has anything to say about it...

I can't believe some of the things people say. 👎

I try to take it with a grain of salt , and I also try to remember that many 21/22 year olds haven't mastered the art of interpersonal communication. Many have, but one always encounters a few who are slow learners. No worries though.
