For accepted applicants, I vaguely recall reading on here that we need to send copies of our transcripts? Is this true, if so is there a deadline? Where do we mail these things?

I just found out that I'm on the alternate list at Loyola, and im really really interested in going there. A few questions- what are the things i should do from now until may 15 to help my chances of getting in? (LOI, etc.) And what should be included in the LOI? Anybody know how many ppl get off the alternate list per year? thanks

read this thread and the other loyola threads (official class of this year, last year, etc...)

send the LOI. include in it an update of everything you've done that they don't know about / that wasn't on your amcas/secondary. let them know WHY you would like to go there (i like maywood, illinois is not an acceptable answer. i respect the jesuit tradition of medical teaching at loyola because ____, i like the block-schedules and think it would fit my learning styles, i was very impressed by the students when i visited (especially [insert my name here]).) those are all good things to include.

as far as #'s off the waitlist, it varies from year to year. this year's m1's (my class) didn't have as many as usual but it usually is a significant portion (maybe 20%? i don't remember exactly). hope is not lost. 😉 join the ranks of the hopeful here on the thread. good luck to all of you!

thanks a lot brats800. i've actually never used this "thread" thing before and im glad i did it now. im writing my LOI and your ideas have definitely helped. truly im very excited to even be on the waitlist for a school like loyola..when i was there, everything about the school touched me- the ppl, the staff, the commitment to service..all in all theres no other place i would rather learn to be a doctor. thanks again for your help.

i called them about that, and they said you can send them in whenever they're finalized if you're not still in classes. otherwise, they'll have to be sent in after the end of the semester. i think there's going to be info about that in the packet that's supposed to be coming out soon.

well, first, here is some more 😍
second, no waitlist news YET, but i was there today and the admissions office was busy sealing envelopes - more mailings for you lucky accepted people i imagine, so you will have to let me know what's inside so i can live vicariously through you
third, more 😍

I just thought I'd report that I learned that tomorrow is officially our last interview day. I'm sorry for all of you who were hoping for an interview.

Best of luck to everyone.
Laurie

to anyone who filled out the financial aid info, just wanted to let you know that they've started sending out the emails. i just got mine today. definitely check your spam boxes, because mine went in there for some reason (which is odd, because every other email i got from loyola went to my inbox...)

Yikes - I just got mine. $54k in loans looks REALLY scary. Especially when I have to figure out how to live on $17k per year. Hmm... I need to recycle a LOT of cans.

I'm REALLY surprised loyola didn't have grants/ institutional aid/ scholarships included in packages (at least in mine).
Oh well, I'm goin to withdraw.
Hope someone whose waiting gets my spot!

I had some institutional loans in mine - which are nice I suppose. That is still a LOT of loans though - I gotta learn to love the top ramen again I guess.

I hope that this not come out bad, but I hope, for mine and the sake of everyone else on the alternate list, that there are many more people like you out there. I wish you the best of luck next year where ever you go.

Have faith Timmy - there should be movement starting in the next month or so with financial aid packages coming out so that people can compare things.

thanks flop, i know! i just get so darn excited thinkin' about it!

oh, and one other thing - don't live on ramen!!!! if i get into loyola i will have to have you over for dinner often to make sure you get some good, healthy food and that you eat more than just those terrible little noodles!

LOL.. thanks.. I will need help from "college-aged" people to help me learn how the heck you survive on this "budget" they put you on.

Oh - and don't worry about the ramen - I doctor it up with fresh vegetables and bits of meat so it is much better than the plain outta the package stuff.

I go to U Wisc, which is probably where I will go to med school. I know 5 people from here alone that got into Loyola and are withdrawing
hope that helps🙂

the budget allows you to eat fine. i haven't had ramen yet. 😉
After tuition is paid, I end up with a budget of $1,470 per month. I suppose it is doable to live on that, but I am not sure how yet (I also have $200 per month in debt so I actually would have $1,270 left).

the orientation info packets are in the mail for those of you waiting on those. at least they're arriving in chicago now...those of you farther away will probably have a little more of a wait. nothing too exciting...a little information, and a few papers to sign and return. still nice to get something in the mail other than a bill though 🙂

I live in Chicago, and I just got mine today (monday).

just got accepted last week after interviewing 3/24

Im so pumped! Loyola really impressed me, and Im pretty sure I'll be coming here. Like someone mentioned earlier 54K in loans per year is scary as hell. Especially since ive got lots of undergrad debt. OH well. Also, no scholarship or grant stuff in my Financial Aid award. Something tells me that by the time I sent in all my materials last week all the grants and scholarships were gone......

see you guys soon

Wow that's great, you must have really impressed them at your interview.

Stritch is officially done interviewing, and all of us on the alternate list are anxiously awaiting for May 15. But I guess we will all be waiting even a little longer, because from previous years Stritch posts' it appears that movement off that list did not start until 4-5 days after May 15 and continued way into mid-June, with some people being called as late as July.

from what i have heard from current students, there really are no scholarships/awards at loyoa, and in poking around on their website, what little i have found there pretty much confirms it for me - loans it is, baby!

i don't care if i have $100K in loans first year - as long as it went to pay MY tuition AT LOYOLA it would be A-OK with me!

i second that! guess all the other schools were right - i am not impressive, nor am i exceptional 🙁

so, just being an average joe, i will sit and be patient until May 15! (praying REALLY HARD in the meantime)

I have a feeling that as long as Timmy is on the waitlist, this thread will be bumped every few days. Good luck Timmy!

12 more days!!!!

Hey jbrice (Jason right?). My name's Christi. I think I had Dr. Fung with you two years ago. I saw your picture in the picture thread (I have been too lazy to figure out how to post one in there). Let me know how your wedding went. Good to see you are in for next year! I am playing the waiting game 🙁

another bump, just call me the bumper... 😛

called loyola today..was told the waitlist had just been ranked, but they couldn't give out anymore information than that.

Is it me or does it seem like A LOT of people here on SDN are accepting their places at Stritch and not many people turing it down? If you look at the official class of 2010 page for Stritch and this page it seems like there are a lot of people accepting. This does not give us alternate list canadates a lot of hope for many people being taken from the alternate list. Maybe I am just paranoid, but I am getting really nervous now as I see so many people taking their acceptances. I wonder how much movement their is going to be.

i imagine the popularity of this thread alone has prompted a whole lot of SDNers to see Loyola in a very positive light. However, there are lots of applicants who don't use SDN (I know, sacrilege...) and there's also a lot of in-staters who apply to Loyola and all the other Chicago area schools who may end up choosing UIC or Rush for monetary reasons, or Pritzker or Northwestern for prestige or whatever...so i would imagine there'll be plenty of movement still. keep the hope alive! Viva La Vie Loyola!

Well I will keep hoping, for my sake, that you are right. I will also keep hoping that maybe many who are on the alternate list will turn down a spot if they get offered one, though I can't imagine this happening much. But, I bet there are people who have chosen another school and are still on Loyola's alternate list.

here is some hope for people who REALLY want to go to Loyola: according to a package they mailed, you may get called for an acceptance as late as Monday July 24 (the week of orientation) if someone doesn't register

9 more days!!!! 😀 until waitlist "D-Day"!!! :luck:

i have shown all the 😍 i possibly can in my time waiting for this alternate list train to leave the station, so let 'er rip! i am ready to face the music! (hopefully it will be celebratory music and not a requiem for us alternate listers!)

any news yet? anyone? 😀
you know timmy, i am gonna beat a dead horse to a pulp! 🙄

how many posts do you think it's gonna take for this to just be it's own sub-forum? 😀

Got off the waitlist today! (phone call) So happy to be joining the rest of you in July! See you then!

I love LOYOLA!!!

I second the congrats! I got a call today too... and am still trying to decide. I REALLY want to be at Loyola, but it will cost around $75,000 more than SIU. 🙁 :scared:

I am going to get a drink and discuss it with my boyfriend.

Does anyone have the match list results? I know I have seen them somewhere, but can't seem to find them using the SDN search! I know they don't really count for much, but I am trying to throw EVERYTHING out there for the decision.

You all are awesome and a big reason to say F*** it! to the money and deserve a big group hug. The people at Loyola are definitely a large "pro" on my list.
