At my interview,we were told that the school is now accredited.

I'm in the exact same position as you.

haha common misconceptions. I'll clear them up

1) No school under 4 years of existence can have accreditation. One of the requirements is that you graduate your first class. We graduate our first class next month. I've been told we're all smooth sailing for accreditation. Lets just hope the building doesnt explode in the next 30-45 days before graduation.

2) The phrase used by MD schools for their rotations and residencies are not meant to (nor do they ever) apply to DO schools. They're meant to block offshore schools which are not fully accredited ever. You can't be a US medical graduate and not be from a fully accredited school.
 
Oh sweet, full accreditation is that nearby? Well that really helps alleviate one of my worries. Thanks, DE.

Anything you'd recommend I do before starting classes? I'll be taking that GA course they're offering in July, but what else would it be wise to do?

Our entire 4th year class matched into MD and DO residencies while being on provisional accreditation; so you guys will have no problem. Graduation for class of 2011 is first week of June.

Over the summer...relax. If you are taking the anatomy class - form good study habits, they come in handy. Since you are not being graded it's a good way to figure out what works best for you.

Obed just emailed. I went down the list by 7. May16th is just around the corner.

It'll be interesting to see how deep into the list they get. I wish other schools would provide updates like Touro -- at least you have some idea of what to expcect.
 
just for confirmation: there was 197 and now there are 133 on the wait-list. Is that change solely due to people dropping out of the wait-list, the first pull will not occuring earlier than May 16? Or did some pulls happened already? I'm a bit unsure, 🙂

197 to 133 I think is mostly due to ppl dropping out of WL. Only some people from the WL were offered acceptance according to Obed.

Yep, Obed said its mostly because of people just dropping off. Only a few people were offered seats so far.

I would think if the top 20 had other acceptances they would have dropped off the wait list by now. It would be nice if this were true though!

I wud be surprised if more than 2 or 3 decide to reject the offer but heres to hoping that all of them r goin elsewhere :claps: 😀
 
but even here in this thread a lot of people have other acceptances, so I wouldn't be surprised if some reject the offer.
 
Hey Guys,

I am #4 it seems. I am hoping to withdraw from the offer if I hear back from my primary/in-state choice. Hope it goes to one of you.

In part...meaning that most people are likely on multiple waitlists, or some may just be holding out to make last minute decisions because they have a lot of confounding factors at play, and there are always those people who are just not interested and are slackers when it comes to informing the school that they are not interested. There is general movement on waitlists across the nation right now, so the chances are extremely high that they will go through more than the next 20...the question just is...how many more...
 
Obed got back by email to the top 20 or so; So I am in!

Like I said, I am just waiting to make sure I get my in-state choice, and I'll be vacating that spot. I am pretty sure that will happen.

Once you get in off the list, how long do you get before you have to make a deposit? I know other schools its about 3 days.

so does this mean people dropping from the high WL? that doesn't make sense, cause people were accepted which means the shift was as a result of applicants rejecting their offer of acceptance.
 
I think it means that people give up their spot on the wait list because they probably got an offer elsewhere.
 
I would believe next movement would be some time after June 1st. We were given until June 1st to respond and make the first deposit

The notice states that the medical school no longer has Provisional Accreditation status, but has advanced to Accreditation!
 
Does anybody know how Obed got the 120 ppl pulled off the list /140 total waiting list number for last year?

If you look at this year's number, then would he consider that he has been able to reach 89 ppl since we started off with 197 and we are now at 108 although they have only actually offered acceptance to approx. 20 ppl out of that 89?

If thats the case then the 120/140 statistic does not sound like an enticing prospect at all 😕:scared:

Any of the ppl from last year's waiting list input is especially appreciated

Thanks. That helps a little bit. At least I guess he actually means that they went down to no. 110 to offer the acceptance.
 
Any thoughts on Touro's acquisition of the New York Medical college? It kind of makes me uneasy. If they treat it as two different schools, fine. But if they open us the rotations from both schools to everyone, I could see that as something not so good. Any thoughts?

Personally not worried about he acquisition. I don't think anything bad will come from it. It seems as though both schools will continue existing separately as its own entity.

I agree with postal here... but... im confused as to how opening up the rotations would be not a good thing? Thats probably a fantastic scenario for our students. Its just one thats not likely to happen as NYMC is rather rotation site strapped.

I agree. What is everyone doing while you're waiting. Are you preparing for housing, immunization, books, deposit etc or do you just wait until geting in ...

I honestly don't know which one of those I CAN do since I don't know which school I'm gonna get into.

I guess I'm just enjoying my time. watching Stanley Cup. Cheering for Vancouver Canucks. 😀
