Yeah that's how the group is going. Once you get accepted, Obed will invite you to the group. Also the new SG has been added so they're there to answer questions along with 2014ers too. I'm crossing my fingers for all of you!

I'm not sure if this helps but when you search him try Obie Figueroa, he is wearing a white shirt and hat in his profile picture. If not I would email his saying you are having trouble joining the group.

I think his name on facebook is Obie Figueroa. You can recognize him by his picture.

If you still can't search for him by his name. You type " TouroCOM-NY Class of 2014" on the search bar. You'll see two groups, one with 164 members, and the other with 8 members. You click to the group with 164 members, then click to "Wall". You'll see him posting a lot on this wall.

I've just added him. I'm waiting for his verification.

I think so - He also made it sound that the majority of this list will get in. Probably won't start moving until after the last set of interviews.

I just want to start planning ahead and i can't at this moment. I think it will work out for us in the end.

So ~ 100 were either offered acceptance or had other acceptances. So I guess we should be OK if we're in the top 90-100 rank. BUT THIS IS HISTORY. I DONT KNOW ABOUT NOW!

I would say chances are that someone wait listed early on may have been accepted elsewhere.

I had no choice but to apply late this year and I think that was my biggest down fall. I was just happy to get a few interviews. Hoping one will pan out.

I just went to interview not too long ago, having applied later. Still waiting for a spot on the high waitlist or early admission. Does anyone know the chances of that for this year or the last.

Yes, if you do maintain a certain GPA you are automatically in. My future roommate did that. But when I asked Obed about how that program works, from what I understood, it was a separate application and not for those who gained interviews and were put on the waitlist. I could be wrong though because when I asked him about it, it was last July.

Is everybody on the high waiting list here part of the Facebook group? There are 52 members in the group as of today. I am guessing at least half of the people are not on it so mayb arnd 100 ppl on the high waitlist? Just tired of the lack of information. I wish they can at least tell us how many ppl are on the list.

Yeah I heard the same, that the last interviews ended last week and that they will be closed after this week. I still haven't heard anything as far as waitlist/rejection so I'm guessing they probably won't do anything with the waitlist until they make decisions on the final interviewees.

The second deposit is due in May, so there will probably be movement after that, once they get an idea of how many people want to attend.

I know for all of the allopathic schools May 15th is the last day to pay the deposit and reserve a seat in the incoming class; I believe it's the same for osteopathic schools as well. So I think you guys will be getting more updates after the 15th.

I'm actually splitting an apartment with someone else in the class and I'll be paying $1200 a month. You can find cheaper options farther from the school but I didn't go for that because I didn't want to travel a half hour to forty five mins a day to and from school.

That seems high.
Living close to the school is one way to combine living in Manhattan with saving money. The harlem area has studios/1Br for 900-1300 and up, and if you're willing to share a 2-3Br you can do even better.

For those on high waitlist, the whole list did move last year as school start date came closer. Keep your phones open, if you know you are close to being called, but towards the end it can move very fast so just keep your phone open.

In fact last year people dropped out after a week or two of classes because they received acceptances somehwere else. So tourocom actually accepted master students who didn't make the cut initially.

I live in midtown manhattan (58th street) and pay $800 a month (<$900 with electric internet and cable) for my half of a 2 bedroom apt. It's not huge (11x11 bedroom, living room/kitchen that isnt much bigger than the bedroom) but its in great condition and in columbus circle.

If youre seeing 2K for an apartment you're not looking in the right spots. My suggestions would be the upper west side and Hell's Kitchen (basically all of midtown west of 9th ave). It seems like the average is about $1100 with a roommate. Some people pull $900. I'm the only one, to my knowledge, living in midtown for $800; but I know I found other places in the upper west side for $800 and $850, but I preferred my location. You just need to look enough and know where to look.

I'd suggest *not* living in Harlem. About 1/3 (~40 people) of the class lives there first year and only about 5% (~8 people) stay in harlem for their second year. No one ever complains about harlem. Thats the funny part. They just realize that they could have found plenty of equally nice apartments in better areas for the same rent. The ones who stay in Harlem tend to be the ones who have amazing Harlem apartments, and at that point you won't find anything close for the same price. I'd suggest just skipping the whole Harlem phase if you're overwhelmingly likely to move out to somewhere else 2nd year anyway.

The golden rule: the more roommates you get/the more bedrooms it has: the cheaper it will be. I know 4 people paying $1000 a year to live in a gigantic apartment in a times square tower with a private gym, roof access, and a pool nearby. They rented a huge 2 br/2 bath apartment and put up dividers to make their giant living room become 2 more bedrooms. The apartment remains huge, the remainder of the living room is still bigger than the one I have now, and they pay less than almost everyone.

I'll have to play devil's advocate here (as DE does it all the time ).

I live in harlem and I enjoy it. I have no plans of leaving during the summer, and I wish I didn't have to leave for 3rd/4th year. The people are friendly, it isn't dangerous as long as you avoid particularly bad areas, and the rent is definitely affordable. If I tried to rent an apartment identical to my own even in the northern stretches of the upper west side, I'd be paying 2,000/month or more.

I guess my advice would be to think about it. The transportation from the UWS and midtown is fast for sure.
