Do I need to send my letters before I receive the interview or can I wait until after?

You have to have everything submitted before they will process your secondary. So yes, you must send in your letters before your interview. It will help you out too because they do an open file interview. So getting to read these awesome things before they meet you will help you out!

Thanks alot man, your response makes me feel better about mailing up that $200 check. Okay so its all sent out, now its just a waiting game. I hate waiting 🙁

Hey I know how you feel. I was so worried and I got all my stuff submitted by mid July to all the schools I applied to. I know what you mean about waiting. Honestly though, don't worry too much! It will happen!

Hi, guys:

Quick question. Did any of you who recently interviewed or interviewed two weeks ago receive an email today stating that the decision on interview would be delayed 'til next week due to the deans and some of the staff being at a conference this week?

Also, did the email include a "Technical Standards as Part of Admission Requirements" attachment that we need to sign and send back...either via email (after scanning it) or by postal mail?

Thanks! And good luck to all!

-Cgc217

i got that too. maaan, I got scared for a second when I saw it in my email. I figured it was gonna be a rejection since they seem to call people when they're accepted. I'm thinking everyone that interviewed on our date received it

Hey guys, Im trying to figure out flight and hotel for interview. What hotels do u recommend that are close and how much were they per night??? Im really struggling to budget this trip and I would love to get some advice from people who have actually interviewed and seen the area, as I have never been to NYC

Thanks

Hotels are going to cost an arm and a leg. There are some hostels you can look into, but this is NY and housing, temporary or permanent, is at a premium. I was able to stay with two friends sharing a crappy one bedroom for 3k a month 🙂

At the interview, someone mentioned a hotel next door to Touro. I forget the name, and I think it is open now (wasn't a few weeks ago) and the price didn't seem outrageous for a hotel, but priceline/kayak are probably your best bet.

What I did was fly in to LaGuardia and stay at their hotel. I came from Ohio and the flight was 250, hotel was 130, and cab fare was 40. It didn't seem too bad of a price for being about 20 mins from the school.

Thanks guys! I have to ask though, whats priceline and kayak?

I will be interviewing January 11th. I submitted by secondary October 18th! Anyone else going then?

I'm scheduled for Jan 11th too. I'm really excited! Never been to NY before. Does anyone know if its better to fly into JFK or LaGuardia?

Requestion interview for Jan 11th as well. I received an email that I was complete Oct 20th so it took exactly 1 week. 🙂

" .... So, for those who have actually had interviews or been contacted about interview dates, how long was it after you submitted your secondary that they contacted you for the interview?"

My application was complete on October 18th, and I was contacted for an interview today, October 27th. I've requested an interview on January 11th. Good luck to all.

I was complete about 2 weeks ago and received an interview invite this morning. I've requested Jan 11, but we'll see if I actually get it.

Do you guys think there will even be seats available in January? Since they send an interview invite to everyone that completes their secondary.... I imagine they've interviewed hundreds of people by now!
I was really hoping for a date in December. 🙁

I also received an invite this morning (MY FIRST OFFICIAL INVITE), and also requested the Jan 11th date. I am waiting for confirmation from Mr. Sow to see if that date is still available.

Looking forward to seeing you all there!!!

Actually the interview groups are ~12 students (mine was). And Obed told us that they only interview about 550 students. Don't worry!

do you guys know approx when all the seats are filled by?

I live in NYC and am interviewing at Touro...if someone really needs a place to stay, let me know and I might be able to accommodate you! Just shoot me a PM

I would also like to know this is someone can actually predict this. Perhaps a current med student at Touro NY could answer this

Wow thats very nice of you to go out and offer strangers a place to stay. If I wasnt bringing my gf, I would totally take you up on that. Thanks though for being so kind🙂

Also, what are the stats of the people who got accepted if you dont mind me asking? Just curious as I have a lower GPA (3.1) and want to know where I stand going into the interview next month

Thanks

I interviewed Oct 6th and got accepted with:
3.0 sci
3.75 non sci
3.3 cum
25Q MCAT

But don't worry, if you got the interview, you're fine. Obed told us that they don't compare students based on their stats; that they wouldn't compare someone like me to someone with a 3.75 and a 35 MCAT and take them over me. It's all based on you and how you present yourself. Honestly I thought that he was just saying that to make people like me feel better...but I guess he's not lying since I got in.

Congrats on the acceptance! I was wondering if Touro is your #1 choice, or other people for that fact. I'm debating on attending the interview because I have an acceptance at a school I like and all the mixed reveals about Touro. If it is, could you let me know why you're choosing Touro over other schools? Thanks!

If you have an acceptance save the Touro spots for us soon to be interviewees😛 haha.

Which school did u get accepted to?

Really? Thats awesome I would love it if thats how it works. If its not on stats at that point, do you think you compete with people on the same day as you? Ive always wondered how you get compared😕

Thats awesome cuz we have similar stats overall (I have 3.1 GPA and 30 MCAT). GPA soon to be 3.2 if I maintain my A in OChem 2 retake

I'm assuming if they compare anyone, it'd only be people on the same level. But if you made it to the interview, you're qualified to be there. They just have to see that drive and passion in you and you'll be fine. Don't worry too much!

This is true. Thanks for the positive reinforcement😀

Im stoked to see people like you are getting into this school, makes me want to go there much more knowing neurotic pre-meds arent choosing it. 😎

Last year I interviewed mid March and 75% of the seats had been filled...I would say by end of April they pretty much had the whole class.

The think I would keep in mind (and have kept in mind) is that this is not a static process. Everyone makes decisions every day to drop their interviews and to drop their acceptance in favor of somewhere else. It's an extremely hard waiting game. But in the end, it will be worth it, because no matter where you end up, you're still gonna be a doctor!!

And about the percentages, I do believe that seeings how interviewees are vying for only 100 seats (the other (up to) 35 come from their masters program). But honestly if I were high wait listed because I had interviewed in that March-April time frame, I wouldn't worry because they always end up going into their wait list. I mean it's gonna happen with any school. You just have to go in and blow them away.

And honestly, the interview for Touro really isn't that rough. Despite my interviewer yelling at me (because she wasn't familiar with Interfolio and so none of my letters were signed or on letterhead), it was still an awesome interview. It is extremely conversational and they're really trying to see how you will fit in with the vibe that they have going on there. They seem very relaxed and like a family. In fact the one woman kept referring to the class as a family. So if you be yourself, you'll nail it 😀

She yelled at you because you're letters weren't on letterhead? wow.

When I interviewed there, I really liked the vibe. I don't know what it is but I felt like I could see myself there.

I'm still wary abt my interview there. Even though the admissions director stressed that if you received an interview, you just had to focus on "wowing" the interviewers, I still received questions about my academic credentials. So future interviewers, be on your toes and remain confident in yourself.

Did you guys get asked questions about the health care system itself? I see myself getting asked about that because Im Canadian and they probably wanna make sure I am aware health care isnt free for you guys😛

Hey all! Has anyone from the Oct 13th Interview group received word from Obed? I believe he said we would get an email two weeks from the interview date. Thanks!

Since Obed and the deans were out this week at a conference, I believe your decision has been delayed by about a week.

Hey guys, for those of you who have interviewed, can you guys tell me whether the interviews are closed or open file? Perhaps partially open file? Have you been asked to defend a particular grade or activity? Thanks for your help!

It is an open file interview. They didn't ask me anything about particular grades though. They did ask how i prepared myself for med school and I talked about how I have taken many difficult classes together before.

Even though they announced that morning that the interviews would be open file, my interviewers informed me at the beginning of the interview that they knew nothing about me and my interview was closed file. It might have been an isolated incident, but just thought I would toss out the warning!

Was that this year or last year? They said this year was their first year of open file interviews. And one of my interviewers told me that she read my file, while the other said that she didn't.

Here's the deal.....

I was vying for a spot for the Fall 2011 year, but I'm still prepping for MCATs in January. Should I be submitting my apps without the MCAT or submit all together? I believe Touro's technical deadline is somewhere in April, so do you think its okay that I technically havent offically applied, but am still aiming for Fall 2011?

From what I understood when my advisor told me, is that you can't even submit your AACOMAS app until you have MCAT scores. And if you have awesome credentials, I don't think waiting till Feb would be too bad. Just keep in mind though that once you get your app in everywhere the AACOMAS sometimes takes a few weeks to be processed, and then a few more weeks to submit your secondary (not just here, but anywhere). And usually interviews are over at the end of April/early May. But if its what you want, you gotta make it happen!

Will cancel my interview here. Good luck to anyone still waiting. Deuces!!!

It was this year, less than 2 weeks ago.

Huh. I have no idea then. I interviewed on Oct 6 and thats what they told me. Its weird that they would change it. Haha or maybe they just let the interviewers decide what they want to do?

I had a dream last night that my interview was actually Nov. 5th and not Jan 11th... had me freaking out in my dreams..

Good luck to all who are interviewing soon.

Hey guys,

I'm from Houston, TX and have an interview November 10th. I booked a flight (LGA) and a car, but I'm not sure how parking/driving is there.

Those who have interview, do you have a suggestion of what hotels to stay at? or if should be taking a taxi instead of a renting a car?

Please help!

I would definitely recommend going the taxi and public transit route! Parking is a major pain in the butt here, and I know I would want to avoid that extra stress on my interview day. A cab from LGA is pretty pricey (about $30 to get to Midtown, not sure about to Harlem) but you can take the bus and subways from LGA to Midtown for a whopping 2.25! Google maps has good directions for using the subway, as does hopstop.com.

There was a bus, I forget the number, that went from right outside the school (well, a block over) to LGA. I'm sure another goes in the other direction. I'm sure you can google transit it. f

Accepted today! Woohoo! I interviewed 10/12.
