I have been accepted to both schools and I am stuck deciding which one to attend. I liked them both, but I'm not sure which one I'll get the better education at and which one I'll enjoy more.

What do you think?

While there's definitely something to be said for a school that has graduated students and has a track record (LECOM), I've heard great things from and about TUCOM-LV. Make sure you consider how you liked the atmosphere and the faculty/staff, you'll be there for four years of your life.
Hope everything goes well and you end up where you'll be happiest.

Speaking with the completely sincere and heart-felt honesty of someone on the Touro-NV waitlist....

LECOM. Absolutely.

:D :D :D

Yeah, those comments will help...spin the OP in circles!
Can we give something to back up such comments, you know, help him/her decide?

They were kidding - they are on the waitlist of the opposite schools, thus want the OP to free up the spot...

You're totally right, how could i have POSSIBLY been so flippant?

Your advice is TONS better, because SURELY the OP would **never** have thought to consider the things YOU mentioned!!!

This is easy (if you are a guy any way)

LV-Tons of Cocktail waiteress that you can impress by studying coffee shops or casinos in scrubs.

Erie- NO Cocktail waitress that you want to impress.

no brainer. ;)

I am a family man, so I'm not too worried about what the waitress' look like. I am trying to base my decision on the quality of education I will receive, and the best chance of getting into a competitive residency following med school.

I understand what the two waitlistees are going through, but at the same time I want to make my decision based on the quality of the programs.

If anyone has been accepted to Touro and is planning on going, why did you choose Touro over your other choices (and LECOM as well)? What about the school, not the city nor the women, attracted you?

Muchas Gracias

It was a joke. Seriously, now the one thing that you should try to figure out is where it felt right. Both schools will give you the min recs to become a physician. What you do with that is entirely up to you. If you cant become a world renound Neurosurgeon from school A you prob aint gonna do it from school B.

The one thing that I would ask (assuming your wife really does'nt care where she'll end up) is what else besides the minimum does each campus offer and and how do those offerings impact you, and let that guide your descion.

Good luck with your descion.

I noticed your screen name was 2ndLt. That means you are either in the AF or Army. If you are in the Army the what kind of residency you are going to do is moot. They dont give out very many deferments to do the civillian match, in which case you'll prob do a Military Residency. The Air Force gives out more deferments for the civi match, but I'd still bet on a military residency.

Okay, here's my honest answer. First of all, I know nothing about LECOM, I didn't apply there. My sense of Touro is this: their clinical affiliations for 3rd and 4th years are really good. The school (obviously) is brand new, and you will be coming out of a school with little or no rep (which may be construed as "neutral" or possibly negative in comparison to a school which may have a better reputation). The school may VERY WELL develop an excellent reputation, and possibly more quickly than some imagine, due to its affiliation with a well-regarded sister school.

One can hope that the Class of '08 makes a fabulous impression, but if you're looking for rock-solid certainties, you're not going to find them.

The flip side of that same coin is that YOU are the one who gets to be part of MAKING that reputation for the people who come behind you. You get a say-so in building the school, and 20 years from now, it's going to to be a neat fact that "you were there."

Hopefully this gives you information that you were not previously aware of.

HI,
I was accepted to Touro-LV a few months ago with God's blessing. I have declinded spots at AZCOM and COMP after being accepted at Touro-LV. My reason is that if you want to stay in LV after you graduate, you have a very decent chance of landing a good residency and work in a town which is booming. LV is a really good place to practice. There is a very good chance I will go here, but I am still waiting to hear from Indiana University and Rosalind Franklin. But, even if I get into the other two schools I might still go to LV because the class size is small and you can get help anytime you want.
Good luck.
God bless.
kid.

I am glad you are researching your schools of choice.

-All core clerkship rotations will be done in surrounding area of Southern Nevada.
-There is a good number of students, and Alumni that have either received or are receiving the Armed Forces Health Professions Scholarship, National Service Corps Scholarship, etc.
-Nellis Air Force Base is just North of Las Vegas.

im a second year at lecom, and i do a lot of tours/lunches with prospective students, and i tell them all the same thing. education-wise, it really doesn't matter what school you attend. the same classes are taught, the same texts are used, and we all use the same board-prep materials for the same set of board exams. you say you want to know where you will get the best education- the only determinant of that is YOU and how well YOU study. i seriously honestly believe that. i tell all the prospectives that you need to pick the school where you will feel comfortable and happy. where you will fit in better with the student body/atmosphere. where you will want to study and do well. if you're going to be a good med student, you're going to be a good med student no matter where you go. and if you are in the military, that makes it easier- you can set up your rotations with the military regardless of school (usually, anyway, at least, i know our military people have a contact who helped them set up rotations outside of lecom affiliates), so you're clinical ed wont vary too much from school to school anyway. im very happy at lecom, so i always recommend it, although the Las Vegas school sounds very promising, and i met the current SGA pres this winter, and he seems like he wants to do a lot for the student body, so who knows! just go with your gut- what schools feels most "like you". thats just my 2 cents!

Pick LECOM. I too want that Touro spot off the waitlist. :p
