are you from NYC? cause thats where i am from as well, queens to be exact.

You should really try a long board, it so much eaiser to ride and harder to fall off from. With those big wheels, you can ride over anything (well not anything) but i have gone over some pretty nasty cracks and whatnot.

Actually yeah...I'm also from Queens, lol. Only know about Dick's because I went to school in Rochester.

Yeah some of those sidewalk cracks in NYC are...really not conducive to not flying off of your board :laugh:

Now if only my knee would heal I can really go celebrate my acceptance and finish learning to skateboard 😀

I was in the middle third, and have moved up to the top third at the beginning of the month. So i am hoping to hear something really soon!

that is great news for you...we are in the same boat...the sooner the better--i am seeing the middle third wants to hear also...i see them getting a little antsy as well...

let's hope that we get off by the end of the week...then it's on to the middle 1/3

i wish there would be more visible movement as well...perhaps Mr. Rosso (aka DMCChung?) can post here to give us updates

as i have said before--i resist the urge to call the office...soooo haaarrrd.

sorry guys, i don't have any new info cause i myself have been calling them too much about my financial aid, etc...It's so strange this year, like going much slower than the trends we saw the previous years. My theory is that the admissions committee must have food coma after going on alcohol binges memorial day. haha. they be back in action tomorrow hopefully. Good luck guys...
 
for anyone interested (cirrus and i have discussed this over already), there's a house i'm looking into that is 1.5 blocks away from campus, crazy crazy close with 4 available rooms (3 upstairs with a bath) and 1 room with private bath downstairs. It'd be nice to have all medical students in that house, like a medical student dorm. all the rooms are furnished. they'll be a sense of community amongst us and it'll be great for out-of-staters who don't have a car (like me, haha). I was thinking 4 medical students in that one house who all get along, are courteous, and responsive to others' needs, what a wonderful 1st year that will be. Just suggestions. Come join us after you get accepted!

Well either way I'm gonna go check out the 2 places dmcchung was thinking about so I guess I'll see if it's ghetto or not.

If it's not a nice place to live I'm thinking about living downtown or something, but it's definitely more expensive than the places dmcchung was talking about.

"WDMSC" = Walking Distance from Main Street Campus

Some of the streets/houses are pretty nice, but some are not at all. Depending on your block it can be filled with frat houses and undergrad parties. Some of these areas have higher crime.

On the other hand, depending on which block it is, there are a lot of families and nicer areas. You're close to Amy's place (yum!!!!) and a 10-15 min walk from the subway for going to Thursday in the Square. Priorities!! 🙂

edit: Like Swinelake said in another forum, Everything in Buffalo is 20 minutes away. Coming from NYC, there's virtually no traffic to speak of unless there's an accident. Oh I"m going to be so sad if I have to leave!!!! 🙁 🙁

Haha I'm working on convincing him of the importance of having a car, especially since it'd open up the number of neighborhoods he can live in. Plus, having lived in smaller cities before not having a car makes life very un-fun. How are you gonna visit all those friends who don't live downtown?

I just want to move up to the middle third. Taking it one step at a time.

I had a dream last night that they took people off the list starting at the bottom and I was SO DAMN HAPPY.

Then I woke up to the bitterness that is reality.

Now I'm sprucing up my AMCAS 2008 application 🙁

You're not kidding....I'm going insane with worry/anxiety!!

Anyway, if I get in, I would love to get a house with people from the forum. I agree that it's a good idea to get a house with other med students and that's what I was hoping to do. I just hope that I don't hear too late to actually be a part of the housing thing. But, if I get in, count me in the house idea😉

DrGeorge, since you were originally in the middle third, you are rather likely to get in based on previous years.... but also, people really truly shouldn't worry about housing in Buffalo. It's a renters market - there are always good apartments available.

It's just frustrating that the list seems to be moving so slowly....

I would rather house with people from here or other UB med students than random roommates, which is what I meant by missing the housing. Especially since forum group seem like nice and courteous/caring people.

I just sent Mr. Rosso an email asking him how the WL is moving. So when i get back a response i will let you guys know...
