UC Applicants: Post updates here!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.

here's a different perspective:

personally, i'd like to get rejections by email. It's quick, to the point, and would save me the agony of having to walk in the frigid cold a couple of times each day to my p.o. box to get my mail, or compulsively logging into application status pages to see if there's been any updates if i got a secondary of if i were lucky enough to get an interview at one of the uc's.

i can understand that, but after spending $30 + $120/#amcas schools applied to + $60 for a secondary for each uc, the least they could do is dish out a stamp

Wow, I must say that following this thread has been VERY informative. I am getting a good idea of what I will going through when I apply to the UC's in the next cycle. Since SDN has definitely become a source of procrastination for me (it's even better than Craigslist was when I was sitting in a cubicle full-time 🙂 ), I guess I could see this thread as a way to motivate to study to keep trying to boost the stats for the UC's. Then again, their admissions seems so arbitrary and strange that it is a bit discouraging. Anyway, I'll stop my rambling. But thank you to everyone who is posting here and please keep it up. It's nice to get a sense of the UC time table. And good luck to all of you in this crazy process! Peace.

Damn, looks like Davis was on a rampage! Sorry about Davis, guys, but looks like a lot of you still have love from UCLA, so don't give up hope, yet!

did those of you who got rejections from Davis today even turn in the secondary? I got the same e-mail today, but I turned in a secondary. Couple of people I know who go the e-mail today were all rejected pre-secondary. I was just curious.

i would like to add my emailed postsecondary davis rejection. oh well, there are plenty more uc's in the sea. plus, i think everyone should feel a little better realizing what a (comparatively) small class davis actually takes and for that reason it is probably one of the more challenging uc's to get into. good luck guys.

Dear UCLA,
Please love me. Please.
Sincerely,
Bounty

Dammit, i feel like walking over from work to the admissions office and saying "gimme an interview people!" 🙁

well, got myself the ucd rejection email today too...argghh.

Don't get mad guys!

But at my Davis interview on Dec. 3, I talked to Terri Hall.

She's very nice, and understanding. Its just that she really likes emails. She hates phone calls. She said that she gets angry when people call the office. Thats why you got attitude Carbon.

Email any questions to her, next time. She, and the rest of the Davis staff are very kind, and understanding. At least they didn't leave you in limbo like the other UCs do. At least Davis will tell you your status at all, email or not.

guess what? i've just joined the davis rejection club today w/ my post-secondary rejection! +pissed+ and yup, it was an email.

That makes it:

UCSF - post-secondary rejection
UCD - post-secondary rejectoin
UCLA - Nothing new on website.
UCI - Hold
UCSD - Hold.

For real dogg. So close yet so far. Sheeeeit.
To paraphrase my former colleague (who also happens to run the infamous ninja website), "I love UCLA with all my body, including my peepee!"

I thought Davis was the easiest UC to get into, which is why the rejection really scares me. Don't they have the lowest average GPA and MCAT out of the UC's?

Davis (and Irvine) interview @ 400, whereas the others interview more than 500. Also, they want to wait longer to see if apps will withdraw (after being accepted to other schools).

the book i have puts their avg. mcat at 11.9 and class size at 90. i think mcat might be extra important to them. not sure though. comparatively it puts irvine at 10.5 and 11.4 at ucsf.

Gogiants can you share the title of this book? I would be very much interested into it.

I am also suprised that MCAT for Davis is hiher then UCSF.

isn't it the barron's book? if it is, i thought it was a fluke. a lot of stats in it were incorrrect.

Man, this is my "UC Life Story".....

i got my info from the penguin guide to american medical and dental schools.

okay, here's my update:
UCSF: secondary completed 10/13, interviewed 11/13
UCSD: secondary completed 10/9, interviewed 12/5
UCD: secondary completed 10/8, e-mail invite for an interview received 11/15, but NO ONE EVER ANSWERS THE PHONE OR CALLS ME BACK WHEN I LEAVE A MESSAGE.
Sent an e-mail to Terri Hall asking her to just schedule me for any day in January. She replied with an e-mail telling me she'll do it when she gets her January calendar. Got a generic e-mail from Terri today once again asking me inviting me for an interview like the whole thing never happened. AArrrrggghhh!
UCI: secondary completed 10/3, "on hold" for interview
UCLA: absolutely no word since they received my AMCAS application. I heard a rumor that they won't take anyone who's 30 or older.

Sweet! You've just made my day! I just hope that book is correct.

just called ucla for some info...didn't get much!
she said if i haven't heard anything it just means my file is under review and that they are giving out secondaries through THE END OF FEBRUARY 🙄

I thought UCSD had the lowest MCAT avg. Davis seems like it's pretty hard to get into, though.

So has anyone heard from UC Irvine??

on hold for interview at UC Irvine, and of course, would love to know when i might be taken off hold!!!!

brutus 🙁 i feel your pain. i don't understand why it seems like irvine and ucsd put EVERYONE on hold that they don't interview. what the heck? i mean, it's not really better than being rejected if everyone gets put on hold.

Wow, that is really interesting that you would get interviews from LA & SF, but get a hold from UCI. Oh well, you're doing better than I am with no interviews and hold from UCSD.

i really don't understand the uc's at all and how they decide why some of the schools give interviews and then other ones don't they are really random...

uci - on hold
ucsd - on hold
ucsf - on hold 🙁 (but hey, i'll take it over a rejection)
ucla - haven't heard a peep since sent primary
uc davis - waiting post-secondary

as far as my planning is concerned....if i ever get an "on hold" i think that chances r i will be waitlisted or rejected. of course, slight chance of acceptance is there, just nothing big

No news whatsoever after turning in secondaries to all UC med schools.

Well I just found out that I've been put on a "hold" list (pretty much same thing as a wait list) after my interview at UC Irvine. There goes the only UC that showed me some love. Oh its going to be a great holiday season after all... not.

hi optimus prime. i was wondering when you interviewed there b/c i checked the website after the interview and there is still nothing filled in for mine. i was just wondering if you checked the website or if you got it in the mail?

I interviewed in late october and was notified of the hold status on the website. Good luck, hope you get some good news. Someone should.

hi optimus prime---thanks for letting me know. i guess i will be getting the same hold soon b/c it seemed like they only accept a few early on so i am expecting to get the hold after interview too...good luck to you too!!!

hey guys,

has anyone who interviewed at irvine on 11/14 (or later) heard back from them yet? thanks!!

dpy

Hi everyone,
I interviewed at UCI late October and heard that I was accepted before Thanksgiving. As many of you know, it's quite a relief to get in somewhere.... all you need is one acceptance, right? I'm was flat-out rejected from UCSF and haven't heard from UCLA at all. I'm also "on hold" at UCSD (which is probably a polite rejection) and haven't heard anything post-secondary from Davis. SO. UCs suck. But they're notorious for being slow, so hang in there, everyone. This whole process is damn frustrating-- it totally shouldn't be, because we all want to be doctors and have the best intentions to HELP PEOPLE-- but we'll get through it in the end. I admire all of you for your dedication and tenacity through this process and wish you the best of luck! =)

UC sucks a$$.

UCSF reject presecondary
UCD rejected post sec.
UCI hold my left nutz
UCSD hold my right nutz
UCLA not even a booty call
UCLA/Drew interviewed 11/21, not a urm so I'm not holding my breath.

Thanks, Florence02, very well said:clap:
Let's not lose hope.
Last year, UCSF and UCSD did not invite me for the interview until Feb! So all of us who haven't heard anything post-secondary (including myself as of now) should just hang in there! Good luck to everyone.

In case you couldn't tell by the subject line, I got put on hold to interview at UCSF. Anyone know what that means exactly? Any chance of getting an interview come spring?

UC Irvine really sucks @ss!!!! 😡

UC DAVIS INTERVIEW!!! App complete 11/19...got the invitation today!!!! I'm so happy...it's my first!!! keep the faith guys!!!

Congrats, Dr. Don!!!! Good luck with your interview!!!

Just checked my status pages and guess what? I got an interview invite at UCSF.

Application Status Date
AMCAS Data 7/31/2002
University of California Application 8/13/2002
Secondary Application Complete 11/14/2002
Selected for Interview 12/9/2002

Still waiting to hear from Irvine and LA and on hold at SD (didn't apply to Davis).

that's awesome, STi555!!! best of luck 🙂

the uc's just don't seem to love me. oh well, what can you do?!

Very cool, STi555!! 😀

Great to see some people getting good news from the UC's for a change!!

any one hear anything lately??? just wondering if anyone was put on hold for poss interview at ucsd and then has actually gotten an interview??

It seems like there was a lot of news from the UC's (mostly UCD) last week and now we've hit another lull. AARGH!! 😡

and the waiting game continues....

Is Irvine the slowest of the UC's or what?
