UC Davis c/o 2016 Applicants

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I too called IT today. They said wait a couple of days since the server renews each night and then if it isn't different by Wednesday morning, take it up with vet med. IT was very nice and efficient. They are probably a little flogged with new admissions fun....

Hey all~

I remember when I checked this page daily (ok, like 5x daily...) when I was applying to schools and looking for housing so I thought I'd post this opportunity here. I am a 3rd year student and I live with a 2nd year in a 3 bedroom/1 bath house in Central Davis within 10min drive or bike ride to the vet school. We're looking for someone to occupy the third bedroom for $550/mos (includes water and trash, which many apartments and houses in Davis do not). A female with no pets would be highly preferred but all interested people will be considered. There are already two dogs and two cats and we'd would prefer no more pets except for those that would be contained to your room. The two of us are chill, quiet people that just ask you are responsible and considerate of us. Thanks! Feel free to message me for photos and further information on the house.

Hi all you're not the only ones stressing about housing, I'm still looking to find a roommate to fill a spot in my townhouse style apartment (no upstairs neighbors🙂) in the Letournesol complex.

Management here is great, they have no size restrictions on dogs (my roommate had a great dane mix) and no breed restrictions that I know of, there is coin op laundry on site, a pool and spa, and it's a pretty quiet small complex but I really like it.

About my place, I currently share a 3 bedroom 2 bath place with one other person which I know can be a bit pricier than most would like (about 900 each), but you have your own room and a room to share as an office which really helps me to study during vet school, but I might also be willing to rent out to 2 people somewhere in the 550-650 range each, so if you are interested in either arrangement send me a personal message. The apartment is about 1200 sq ft, large living room, gas stove, central heat, central house fan, room AC units, sunroom (great for pets and temp control), large storage closet under the stairs, and a YARD(which will have grass soon), and I have 1 dog and 1 cat which would also be sharing the place with you. There's probably more that I forgot so let me know if you have any questions.

Hey all, I just posted a housing opportunity on the Facebook page if anyone is interested! 😀

TW where are you in LA? I know August and I basically live next door to one another. We should try for some time this weekend if all of you other Los Angelans are good with it.

I live by the beach 🙂 rancho palos verdes cliffsides, but I have a parking spot in hermosa by the ocean (all the spring breakers were quite jealous today. Take that, you lazy miscreants!!!)

This weekend I have the wedding of the year to attend (my cousin in law to be will kill me if I don't show up lol). Should be interesting with the rain possibly coming

If you guys end up doing it Sun 22nd I think I'll be heading down to So Cal for a few days! If not no worries I'll be back soon enough 😛

This weekend is a tough one for me as well. However, we should definitely try to nail down the area of a location that is convenient for the most people. You and I are both in the valley, so anything north of the 10 and east of the 405 seems reasonable. My top choice is the Silverlake/Echo Park/ Downtown area. But I am not sure how that works for others like TigerWillow who lives under a pier somewhere. Anybody with anything to say on this matter, please chime in this week, so we can post a location on the facebook page and see what night is good for others. Hope you're all well. :hello:

And yeah, those places would be far far away. I'd say dwntwn but parking is horrendous

I guess anywhere is far away from my pier.

Doesn't Hollywood have crap parking too? And I mean parking that costs 5 bucks and up.

There's always LA Live and trader Vic's

You're worried about parking and the distance from the beach and you think LA Live???!!! :wtf:

I would think you could just shoot up the 405 and we can find a place on the western edge of Hollywood. Isn't that easier than contending with downtown?

La live is 30 mins away. What your suggesting is 45. But it doesn't matter to me. Just as long as all of us can get ample parking (and I've never had trouble at la live fwiw).

I just don't want to drive all the way to eagle rock or the valley :scared:

I am just gathering data. No eagle rock or valley. Check... 😀

I love the father's quote in Clueless:

"I expect you home in 20 minutes. Everywhere in LA takes 20 minutes."

I don't know ANYWHERE that I wanted to go only taking 20 minutes. Such lies being told!!

Maybe it did in the early 90s? Now it's more like "anywhere in LA is 40 minutes" It took me 40 or so to get from Santa Monica to Pasadena on Saturday.

Silverlake, dt, and echo park are all cool with me. Fan of dt these days. Parking sucks everywhere besides the filthy valley so we are screwed no matter where we choose. I leave it up to the rest to decide.

I'll wait a bit and see if anyone else chimes in here and then take the discussion over to the facebook page. 🙂

Just remember the antisocial members like me, with no Facebook. I know, I know...I should just make one. In time....

For you, instructions will be left on the wall of the Laurel Tavern mens' room, 2nd stall from the left. Be sure to check for updates regularly.

CARPOOL!! We could, I wouldn't mind. Nothing like some bonding time on the boring 405.

I know this stall well... too well in fact... may visit it tonight. Lets see how quickly you can post on that wall!

Have you ever been to Mohawk Bend on Sunset by Alvarado? They have a large back room that can easily accommodate bigger groups. My favorite bar might be Verdugo Bar, but that is up the 2 freeway in Glassell Park. Plenty of parking, though. Blue Palms, Surly Goat, The Edison, Villains? Boneyard Bistro is never crowded and has food, but in valley. Tony's Darts Away or TImmy Nolans in Burbank? Or further south like Father's Office or Daily Pint in Santa Monica? Beer Belly in Koreatown?

I only really frequent beer bars and gastropubs. Would be great if someone with more diverse experience could share a few other options. :woot:

I love the Edison, but it is way too crowded at times. Im afraid you have more experience bar hopping than I do, since I only occasionally bar hop in hb.

I've never been to Mohawk Bend, but the room for large parties might be handy. The Verdugo Bar is cool. I was there once...good beer selection for sure. Any of those other places you've mentioned (been to a few) would be fine by me. Here's what I can bring to our fun table... Whenever I go to The Echo, I always stop in this cool wine/beer bar called El Prado. Pretty cool vibe. I like it. Also, the Red Lion in Silverlake is cool. 7 Grand in DT is great too. It's a whisky bar, so we can act sophisticated and converse like the erudite individuals that we are (us Davis folk are truly superior =)).

Don't be afraid. My sponsor says it's a normal reaction...

El Prado is nice. Good vibe. Definitely needs to be somewhere we can hear ourselves talk since we are all so brilliant. I know another place similar to El Prado (but less pretentious) a few minutes away on Temple called 1642.

I've spoken to the owner/bartender on many occasions. Nice gal. Total diamond in the rough. Bought the joint as an old, run-down hispanic biker bar. Hooks up her macbook to speakers and plays jazz music while serving up a pretty good selection of craft beers and wine. Sometimes has live music. Bluegrass, jazz... hipsters brooding on the walls. If we went early enough, we could definitely pull it off. I could even give her a head's up. Another good option.

Red Lion was one I thought of as well. Nice outdoor space. Can get really loud, though. Lots of bars in the area. 7 Grand. Gold Room. Short Stop. Thirsty Crow, etc. Bars for miles and miles... 😎

As long as I can get some cider at these places. And as long as the south bay-beach bums don't have to travel by camel to get there (or take as long to drive there as if it were by camel)

HAHA. We are drunks.

That's why I was hopin' to get this squared away over here, so I can nonchalantly head over to the facebook page and say, "hey, we're gonna grab a drink or two over at such and such bar if anyone wants to stop by" - while all along I will have already pre-emptively peed my pants and puked on my shoes trying to figure out what corner to pass out in.

I still can't believe they let me in to vet school... 😉

I did NOT get an email but I was able to log in. And my uc Davis isn't working yet. Very odd indeed!!!

Better start saving up the money.... Tuition went up 2k.

Nix that. Just got the email ! Check to find yours

I just got the e-mail too... the interest rates on these loans are pretty insane, especially considering that they begin accruing on the day the loan is disbursed. I had a pretty good idea of the numbers before I got the e-mail, so I'm not all that surprised though. Did everyone get similar awards or do some depend on financial need?

Well I got a small grant from both uc Davis and the vet school

Yeah I got a UC Grant - VM, computer grant (ha), School of VM, and campus fee grant.... it's something I guess =). I'm guessing we all got essentially the same thing.

i don't get the letter til a couple days from now.. so i'll join the fb page then..

best day ever!! 😀

just got in through waitlist!!! yayyyyyyyyyyyy!!!
Congrats butterjelly on your acceptance!!! I'm extra happy for you because I'm #13 on the waitlist, so the fact that you got in at #7 gives me a lot more hope than I had last week!
