Hey, everyone!

I've been poking around the forum a bit and I hadn't seen a thread for Davis yet, so I figured I'd start it up! I can't be the only one applying haha.

This is my second time applying. It was the only school I applied to last year and I got waitlisted. Wasn't a huge fan of the MMI interview format, hah.

It looks like they won't have a supplemental this year. Not a huge change though. Their supplemental last year was just a brief questionnaire (like ethnicity, area of interest, etc).

Good luck to everyone!

Where did you hear that there wasn't a supplemental? On the website it says that there will be one available come mid-October..

If you scroll down to the bottom where it says "Summary of Admission Procedure" it says "No supplemental application required.". Weird. Whatever. If there is one it takes 1 minute to complete.

Hmmm.. I see what you are saying. On the Davis website it says otherwise.. Who knows. I guess we will find out soon enough! I'm glad it is short.. but I was hoping to fill out a supplemental since my GPA from the VMCAS app is lower than my cumulative GPA/science GPA etc.

Hello everyone! I am glad to find other people who are applying to UCD. May the odds be ever in our favor!

If there is a supplemental I'm looking forward to the fact that it's free haha. I'm super sick of paying $70+ to fill out the exact same information that was on the VMCAS lol

Anyone know how strict uc davis is with the PPI deadline? I submitted mine on Sept 30, and then realized it takes 4 days for ETS to send it electronically. I know Colorado said they will still accept the eval's as long as its in before the end of the week. Any one know about Davis? Thanks!

I dunno how strict Davis is about their PPI deadline but I was wondering the same thing myself. I noticed my Colorado app recorded my ELORS only a few days after I had sent them through, so I can only assume Davis had received them already since I sent them on the same day. But aren't we supposed to be able to check receipt of materials on their admissions portal? Speaking of which...

Has anyone received an email to access the Davis portal? Their website says that after they receive your VMCAS app they send you an email inviting you to access the portal, but don't say about how long that takes. I know its only been a few days since the Oct 2 deadline passed but it already feels like forever lol!!

I haven't received anything from UC Davis yet and my VMCAS was mailed to them on 9/13. They'll probably just e-mail everyone at once? I agree though, it feels like we submitted forever ago! I am not looking forward to playing this waiting game... again. 😛

I haven't received anything from Davis, either. Is this punishment for not submitting in August?

I submitted my VMCAS late August/early September. It's only October 7, guys. We'll get an email soon!

Aaaand look at that. Just got an email. 🙂

Has anyone taken a look at the Document Prerequisites page? They don't have all of them listed from my VMCAS, and I'm fairly confused about the quarter/semester thing. Some of my labs are listed separately, while others are included in the class (both on semesters), so it doesn't look like I have enough quarter units...I think I need to call them in the morning.

I'm confused as well. It says in bold that we don't need to convert from semester units to quarter units (my credits are by semester), but then it also says that we should only select classes up to the point of satisfying the requirement (i.e. the "If you took 3 five unit Physics courses you should only select 2 of them to satisfy the 6 unit physics requirement" example). So... if we don't need to convert, and we should only select classes up until the # of specified credit hours, then how do we know how many semester units satisfy their requirement?? 😕😕😕

I had a blonde moment when I filled out the VMCAS. Apparently I put my birthday for the date that I took my GRE instead of the actual date. Looks like I'll be sending out lots of correction emails... 🙄

I think you'll be fine if your PPI's were received a couple days late (of course I'm just an applicant myself so I don't really know). It has a notice saying to resend the GRE's and PPI's if you accidentally sent to the wrong school code or something, and gives a new deadline for when it needs to be submitted by. Although, the email gave an earlier deadline than the portal does, so I'm not sure which one is true.

Does everyone else see a simple, one-page fill-in-the-bubble supplemental application? The one with the notice at the top that these questions don't affect admissions and are only for statistics? I thought they had lots of essays other years, so I'm a little worried that I'm somehow not seeing a section of the portal...

I think some people that applied previous years said that it was a pretty quick supplemental, which is great! That's all I'm seeing, too, besides the fill-out-your-courses page.

That's a bit of a relief to know! I submitted mine in just before the VMCAS deadline as well without realizing the processing time. Where did it have that notice up, just out of curiousity? And what is the new deadline it had listed?

The new deadline for PPI's is Monday, November 4, 2013 at 5 PM.

Apparently Davis never got my PPI's. Grumble grumble. At least I had 1 free submission left from ETS.

Thanks! That's awesome to know, gives me time to make sure they got mine in.. Sorry to hear yours didn't make it there, but hurray for free submissions! 🙂

Did you get a chance to call them? I sent them an email last night but haven't heard back yet.

That's the weird part. In the email that UCD sent me to give me access to the portal, they said the new deadline is November 1, not 4. I would definitely check that if anyone's planning to send it in after the 1st.

And Cyndia - The notice was in the email, and also on the "Review GRE Scores" page.

Ah okay, that would explain why I haven't seen it - my VMCAS app is still being verified so I haven't yet been sent the email. I tried calling in to ask if they'd received my materials as well, but they just told me to wait for the email.

Does anyone know exactly what "Application status available via the portal" means? I thought it meant that we will know about interviews, but that doesn't make sense because the portal doesn't close until November.

Sorry I wasn't clear. The website says Mid-Oct: Application status available via the portal.

The portal never actually "closes". Heck, I was even able to log into my account from the 2017 admission cycle using my old log-in #. In mid-November you'll receive an email from Davis telling you to go to your portal- the front page will tell you whether or not you've been offered an interview. Same goes with the acceptance/waitlist.

So Davis doesn't accept Anatomy/Physiology for the Physiology requirement?! I really wish that they had posted that on their website!!! My school doesn't offer an only-physiology course 🙁

Yeah, I emailed UCD this summer to double check that my courses would all work, and they told me about the physiology requirement. Otherwise I probably wouldn't have known either. My school used to offer a couple physiology courses but discontinued them last year and only offers combined anatomy/physiology. If you email admissions, they'll recommend a couple ways for you to get that physiology-only class.

That seems really bizarre to me. Last year I had no problems with a class titled "anatomy and physiology of farm animals".
That's pretty stupid imo, if they're now requiring "physiology specific" courses.

I'm going to be really aggravated if they don't accept it. Nowhere on their website do they mention that A&P doesn't count.

Thanks, Nyanko! 🙂

They flat-up won't take it and there's next to no chance that I'll be able to get into an animal physiology course. This is ridiculous and they need to post on their website that they won't take A&P before we shell out $100 to VMCAS.

What if you take a physiology course in the winter/spring semester?

There is one course that is being offered at my school but I already have to take 2 other prerequisite courses in the same term, so I have a feeling that it won't fit in. I'll know for sure in a few days when they post our new course offerings, but I'm not optimistic 🙁

I'm sorry 🙁 Have you investigated any online options?

Fingers crossed it works out, that's super frustrating! An online course is definitely a good option though, you could take it concurrently with your semester of classes?

Check out online options - UC Davis doesn't discriminate. I emailed them a few months ago and they confirmed that they will take the UNE physiology online course. It's anytime course too, so you can start and finish at your convenience. I plan to take it in the spring only if I am accepted 🙂

Oh my gosh you are wonderful!!! That's exactly what I needed to hear! I didn't know if those types of courses even existed, so I'll definitely opt for that if I get the opportunity to attend Davis. Online courses aren't really financially feasible for me to take right now, but I definitely would be willing to pay for it if I had to! You're all the best! 🙂

I am taking a physiology only class online at UCLA extension. I paid under $700 for this class. From what I remember about the UNE class, it was $1220. It's definitely a great, less expensive option. I also found the $200 textbook for $10. If you take the class, it's yours!

Youdabest! Thank you! 🙂 Do you know if they're offering the same course next term, as well? If I'm looking at the right course (exercise physiology) they only have the course dates for this 'term' up right now.

The class I am taking is called "Animal Physiology" which is in the articulation agreement Davis has with UCLA. The new schedules come out about a month (maybe two) before the start of the class. By my extremely rough and prickly estimate, the new schedule will come out in November. I won't forget. I'll let you know when it comes out.

Hula Dancing class starts November 6 at Los Angeles City College. Don't bother emailing the admissions office. Completely non-transferable.

Thank you all for your help! Our course listings came out today and (miraculously) all three of my required pre-reqs work together! 😱

Hi everybody,

I've been trolling this website for years! Just wanted to wish everybody luck and sending positive vibes to all of you! 🙂 🙂:luck:🙂🙂

"Fight for it. You will come out on top."

So it looks like they actually reformatted their pre-requisite list slightly: instead of listing units, they have simplified it into how many semesters of each are required. As it was listed previously, I was coming up short with a few required courses - namely the amount of units for Biochemistry and Physiology. Under the new format, everything seems to be ok! Crisis averted!!

I feel the same exact way!!! haha

I'm taking that class right now! It is a pretty expensive class, but I had trouble finding any others.

Just wanted to check if anyone knows if Davis cares if the required O chem lab comes from the first or second half of O chem? On the website, they list it under the second class in the series, so I'm not sure if I should list just O chem 2 lab...or the 1st one. I will probably just call them on Monday because I'm second guessing myself, but just wanted to see if anyone asked about this.

So, I called Davis and the advisor on the phone said that it shouldn't really matter which one I list, but to list the 2nd semester and check the assist.org site. When looking at the site, my school doesn't have a direct articulation agreement, but looking at a similar school leads me to believe that it is the first semester lab that they are requiring... I'm more than a little confused now...

I was just looking over the application portal again and realized that they switched from "required science GPA" to "overall science GPA" as one of their admissions criteria... super bummed..

I doubt that it matters which one you list, really. I would just list whichever one you want, and if they don't accept it, you've got plenty of time to tell them to take the other. They wouldn't deny you an interview if your lab didn't fit theirs, as a lot of people still have prereqs to take upon interviewing. You'll be ok 🙂
