hey everyone, i thought i would instill some hope into this thread, i will briefly recount my story with davis, i am a cali resident, interviewed 12/15/05, was placed on hold mid january, well i wrote a letter of intent 2 weeks ago, then today received a phone call from Ed and was granted a spot in the upcoming class, so for all you hopeless on holders, looks like you dont necessarily have to wait till july, i was on hold and then accepted about a month and a half later (granted i wrote a very detailed letter or intent saying why i belonged there), so hope springs eternal!!!! and to others, i still am technically missing two class requirments, i am going to call tomorrow and see if my acceptance is conditional or if i dont have to take those classes, anyone here for sure going to davis???? either USC or davis for me and i am leaning heavily towards davis, soo excited, i am sending my good luck vibes to you all

Didn't the fact you wrote a letter of intent means you have to pick UC Davis now?

Congrats Lobster!!! 👍

Patience y'all. I was interviewed way back in October and just received my acceptance by mail on Monday (2/27). Over 5 months... 🙄 And I wasn't ever on hold.

I interviewed in late november and havent heard anything... is that a good thing????? :scared:

Doesn't the fact that you wrote a Letter of Intent to Davis mean that you are supposed to go there now?

I havent heard a thing and I interviewed in late november... ahhhh.... what does this mean??? that my file isnt being reviewed yet.... ahhh 😕 is that better than being on hold??? :scared:

the letter of intent does pretty much imply that i will go to davis, (depending on what kind of person you are and how important your word is), i would think that if someone backed out on a letter it wouldnt be the issue that everyone here thinks it will be, i know people last cycle that wrote multiple letters of intent to sway schools and they are all happy in med school now, but regardless it doesnt matter because i am pretty much 100% devoted to Davis, also for those wondering about the whole class requirements thing, i talked to ed today and he told me not to worry about it and that i didnt have to take them, probably decided on a case by case basis, so i'd email ed to find out what you should exactly do to meet the requirements because i wouldnt take extra classes for no reason

Sweet! I'd emailed Terri but hadn't heard back. I'll email him as soon as I get back from my interview on Friday. I really don't want to take (another) English class when I know I'm interviewing for a waitlist spot.

Of those waitlist spots, many of them turn into acceptances!

It will be a long time. I interviewed on 9/30, and we didn't hear until late November.

I interviewed in early decemeber and i still haven't heard anything!!!!

I was rejected in January post-secondary from UCD. UCD is my dream school for many reasons. Do you think it's worth appealing the decision? Is it too late? Do they even accept appeals? Luckily I've had other interviews and a bunch of waitlists, but I really want an interview at UCD.

I would definitely appeal. There is no way it can hurt, and I'm pretty sure it will help. Just on SDN, I've read about a few appeals that have turned into interviews, if not acceptances...And I know for a fact that UCSF accepts 30% of its post-interview appeals (but I'm not sure how that applies to post-secondary appeals, and if it applies at other UCs)...UCD's pretty flexible though: Give it a try!!

Good luck! What are those other places you interviewed/are waitlisted at?

Hey guys,

I'm an MS2 at Davis. Just a couple of comments after browsing this thread:

If you interviewed in Nov. or Dec. and have not heard back at all, just call and ask. That happened to me and it turned out my acceptance packet had been lost in the mail. Regardless, they should be able to tell you what is up and when you might hear. Don't be afraid to call. Just don't bug them a million times.

As for appealing, interview season is getting to the end, so if you are going to appeal I would do it asap. I really have no idea how that works or how many appeals they accept.

If you are on hold and really want to come here, write Dr. Bera a letter and let him know. There will be lots of movement once people go to 2nd looks and have to narrow their choices down. From what I have heard, the class is "full" right now in terms of acceptances being held, but that really means little since things will move later on. Davis will be interviewing until the end of March.

Anyway, don't give up and good luck!

Congrats Lobster! I'm so stoked for you! 😀

So, anyway, I have some news as I spoke to Terri yesterday- there are quite a few more interview invites going out, so they're "not even close" to being done.
That's my update. Thought I'd share.

That's unfortunate but not inconsistent with what I've been told. I was told that it will most likely be May before I hear anything further (I'm on hold now as of 1/5).

😍 I'm in!!!! I got the letter today....
good luck everyone!!!! hope to see you there in July!

I'm IN...finally after 3.5 months! Anyone know about a davis second look weekend????

Congrats everyone! There is 2nd look weekend sometime in April, you'll probably get more information about it in the next few weeks.

I thought that you HAVE to go to Davis if you wrote a Letter of Intent. Are you only mentioning USC if UCD takes away your offer because of the prereqs?

oops it was already answered....

👍 I'm down. 👍

yes, moi too. wonder if i'll be able to guess who you all are, with my SDN intuition...wait, i jus realized i barely know if you all are guys or girls. 🙄 you'll havta introduce yourselves! 😍

Haha I have NO idea. I might call today and ask if they've set a date.

Assuming I won't have any crazy schedule conflicts, and that they'll let us know of the date well enough in advance, I will be there!

Okay, so April 6th and 7th it is. That is incredibly soon!
I just got the email too. It's very annoying that they told us so late...I would have to fly from the East coast - and flights around people's spring breaks are already expensive to/from Miami.

I'm in a similar situation--I'll have to fly out from DC. I still can't believe how soon the revisit is, but I'm going to try to go...hopefully I'll be there on the 7th (definitely not the 6th).

I wish they only had one revisit day so that we could all meet each other!! Everyone should go on Friday...arghh...

Anyway, time to search for plane tix. I also haven't applied for financial aid yet, so I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed. 😳

When I first read it I thought that their revisit "day" was really supposed to be "days" and it was both. Are you sure we choose?

Um, oops. I think I'm totally wrong. I also read that the revisit days were on April 6th and 7th. No idea where I got the 6 from.

Anyway, I'm really glad it's a full-fledged revisit weekend! I don't know if I could have made it out for just a day...but I'm excited about this.

yay! i'll be there too...do you guys know whether davis has dorms at all, or is it basically up to us to find apartments (the e-mail mentioned finding roommates)...are any of you planning to look for a roommate that weekend? it feels kinda early to do so, as most people haven't even finalized their choice yet! ??

also, if you people are flyin over, would you ever consider staying longer? i mean, the ticket costs the same...you could check out Fuji restaurant in Davis, it's ALL-you-can-eat delicious sushi/sashimi buffet with seriously the freshest fish EVER (if that's your thing) for only $11 (lunch) or sumthing...be sure not to eat any breakfast that morning or dinner the night before, hehe...oh and to girls, go shoe-shopping at vacaville...SERIOUSLY! although i'm sure if we all go to school together we'll go to both these places a lot...

i'm really looking forward to this!!! everybody start posting if you're planning to come!!

oh, and dr. bera said they have rooms reserved for us at the marriot. does that mean we don't havta pay?!? 🙂 🙂 🙂

HAHAha I was wondering the same thing. Might be wishful thinking, but if not...that'll just be awesome. I guess we can call the hotel and find out.

From what I remember, the students at UCD lived in apartments. On our interview day, I remember that Dr. Bera suggested that we get apartments in Sacramento (rather than Davis) in anticipation of the move. I doubt there's on campus housing, but I'd check the MSAR to be sure.

I'd LOVE to extend my stay, but April is my last full month at work. If I miss so many days I might as well quit early and move back to CA...so tempting, but I really shouldn't...

sushi....mmmmmm....sushi... 😀
well most other schools pay for the hotel, if you share rooms with another student.... I don't think I'm ready to get to know you THAT well.... 😛

with regards to the housing... I emailed the housing office and they only provide housing at Davis... not Sacramento.... they told me to ask the med school if the building will be ready and if they have housing arrangements in Sac... doubt that they will...

Does anyone know how the construction is going??? although Dr. Bera said that they were offering the construction company a bonus if they finished in time... one of my interviewers (which is high up in the ranks and will remain nameless) laughed  and said that we wouldn't start the year there. I didn't want to probe :scared: , so I left it at that.

Congrats to everyone that got in! I'm really hating med school right now because we have finals coming up next week, but UCD is a really great school and I hope everyone here will give it serious consideration and come here. I just received an email talking about second look in April because I am one of the directors of the student run clinics. You should all come and check out the clinics and see how amazing they are. You will be blown away at what you get to do as a med student in your first year at the clinics and meet some of the great preceptors who teach us so much. Hope to see some of you come April or even August when you guys start! Back to studying...

Hi accepted Davis students!

I'm still crossing my fingers for an interview from the town about 10 miles from where I live, but hey- if anyone needs a spot to crash for a night or two, PM me- I'm in Sac relatively near the med center (a bike would be better than walking, but my apartment has parking, which is IMPOSSIBLE to find in Sac), and I have an apartment that I'm willing to let only pre-meds/med students know about if things don't work out for me (rather than posting on Craigslist).

I can two or three people comfortably if you arrive early for your weekend or actually, better, want to stay late because I'm working east of Fresno the week of the 3rd-7th.

That also goes for anyone on SDN interviewing, if you need a place to stay, just give me a PM in the next few weeks. I get up for work early and make killer coffee, plus I can show you around Sac.

Let me know. Congrats, and luck to us who are still waiting! :luck:

+pity+
I was accepted but have yet to recieve the invite to the second look weekend...
Whats up with that???
Have all the accepted gotten the invite????

The framework is complete and most of the external work (walls & windows) is done, but they haven't even started on internal construction (walls, flooring, etc.) I suppose they could be done with the work in the next six months, but there's no way they'll be done early enough to move as well.

I'd bet on Fall 2007.

You have a lot more housing options in Sacto than Davis, but either way it's no more than a 30 minute drive.

Anyone coming to second look weekend? If so, drop by Paul Hom Asian Clinic and say hi! I'll be there giving tours for the revisits.

i will be there! and yea i'm reaaally interested in the paul hom clinic, because i think i'd have a lot of fun working and talking in chinese--it would remind me of home. (i checked out the paul hom website, but it looks like it hasn't been updated since 2003--it still says welcome class of 2007!) i kinda wanna see clinica tepati, too, but i'm not sure whether they'd even want me helping out there. do most of the students choose to work in whichever clinic they speak the language? or is it pretty mixed?

Glad to see you're coming up for 2nd look. Are you going to attend Davis for sure next year? If so, remember to keep Paul Hom Asian Clinic in mind. We are the original student-run clinic and see the most patients of all the clinics. The website is a bit outdated, but we have a new webmaster who is going to update it soon. The new group of officers just started, so we'll update it soon! Are you from SF? I am too! In terms of language, it really doesn't matter much. All the clinics have undergraduate translators that will facilitate communication. I personally speak Cantonese and chose to become an officer at Paul Hom because I wanted to be able to directly speak to patients. It's a preference. All the other clinics are great too, but I've had a long history with PHAC. Hopefully I'll see you on Saturday!

hi everyone
congrats. on your acceptance

i'll be coming up to davis for an interview on 4/12 (wednesday next week)

I was wondering if you guys knew anybody who would be a good contact I could make while there...someone who could answer a few questions and maybe offer some pointers on the interview process

thanks

All the clinics appreciate the help from the med students, regardless of the language 🙂 I think it's mixed, especially when the first years start, to get an idea of how each clinic works. Most settle on one to continually attend. Personally, I love rotating around all the clinics, because of the different patient populations and the different dynamics of each clinic.

One of my classmates who went to revisit last year said she got to look at more than one clinic on Saturday, so I'm sure you'll be able to see all the clinics you want to see (and maybe more).

See you all on friday! I'm looking forward to meeting everyone at the dinner.

dagnabit it looks like i won't be able to see the clinics after all! my mom needs to be back home saturday, and she's my ride, so...

o well i'll be coming up on my own to davis anyway, sometime in june. i just wanted to see the clinics with all you other accepted peoples, it's more fun that way. 🙁

see you guys friday!

Hey, everyone! Congrats, those of you who have been accepted! I'm here to encourage you all to come to second look. Seriously, it's good times, and I'm sure the people will make it totally worthwhile. . .I'd already pretty much decided I was coming to UCD beforehand, but second look made me really feel good about my choice. 🙂

Also, I'm happy to answer any questions you might have. Go ahead and PM me, 'cause I'm really, really bad about digging through threads to reply.

Other than that, see you all on Friday! I'll be at the dinner.

hah i wonder what all of your REAL names are...shouldn't we tell each other beforehand? or we'll all just be at the dinner calling out random SDN names and seeing who responds! heh well i guess that could be fun...

I interviewed early December and was put on hold in January. I wrote a letter of intent as well. But I addressed the letter to adcom but not Dr. Bera. Also, my letter was only a little over a page long. How detailed was your letter? It's been more than a month and I didn't panic until I read that you can get accepted before they complete the interview season! Should I write another letter? I don't know what else to say to them except to beg!! AHhhhhhh~

FWIW...at my interview visit not too long ago, it sounded like between then and the May shuffle that they are only going to be accepting folks to keep the class full...meaning that as people withdraw such that the accepted number drops below the class number...somebody will be accepted from the hold or recently interviewed pool...but that this would be a small trickle until shuffle time. So, it does seem that a few folks who are on hold or recently interviewed will get the 👍 before the big moves happen.

Best of :luck: to all still waiting it out!!!
