Elastase said:I was 'bout to say the same thing. Ppl have waited a muuuuch longer time, both decisions from Geffen and Drew.
Good luck everyone! 👍

pico61 said:For JohnyWalker and flyingblue in the 4/5 batch how are you able to get your decision over the phone if they are not allowed to say anything to you over the phone. I am kind of skeptical about this..

Infiniti- Just curious how you were able to check up on yours...Do you have to call the office, or is it through URSA or something like that? So I take it the tough decision is really coming down to finaid packages for you...that's pretty intense man. Best of luck with choosing...I hope LA gives you a good package to make the choice easier!
Elastase said:Infiniti and Bluntman,
I got a financial aid estimate last week (it was only a need-based estimate, and it was pretty good). They are definitely only giving these estimates, and I think the maximum for need-based is half-off tuition. The merit awards are very limited, and do not go out until May.
JohnyWalker said:I don't blame you for being skeptical, but why would anyone make up news about getting rejected from their top choice school. As for your question, I have a special talent for getting people to talk, I think it will be one of my better assets as a physician. I have been trying to teach my girlfriend how to do the same, all you have to do is realize that the people in admissions office are people, and anytime you deal with people, regardless of who they are, any rule can be bent or broken and nothing is final. I knew the rules of non-disclosure when I called, and I explained that to her, but I also told her that it was my top choice school and that I just couldn't wait anymore to hear the answer. Sorry for the rant, but you were the skeptical one.

astrolux said:I spoke to admissions a couple of weeks ago and she said that it just depends on how things move after May 15th. She told me that there have been years where they went "deep into the HOLD list." However, there are those years where they don't get nearly that far.
xxbruinxx said:so there are two lists then? one Waitlist and one Hold list? With the waitlist taking preference?
didn't someone get accepted from that batchpico61 said:So it seems that the 4/5 batch was mixed: hold, unranked wait list, and rejections. Oh no....
la_soñadora said:YAY! I'm on the unranked waitlist!!! I know it seems sad that I'm ecstatic about a waitlist position, but this is SO much better than my anticipated rejection 😀
Write an LOI. Touch some penis. Whatever it takes, you better get your ass up to LA. What would I do without my chaldean homie!?ChaldoAl said:Waitlisted....thought the mail man died...he just got here at 5!!!
And the wait continues......

xxbruinxx said:4/10 status changees....don't give up hope...i think their just slow
i status changed not too long ago and got waitlisted, but from what it seems, that's not too bad of a position to be in
anyway, just wanted to let you all know that i went by the admissions office today to drop off my "yes, i accept your cruel waitlist" letter and asked them how the process works from now on...
she said that they don't touch the waitlist until May 15th...she also mentioned that there are 100 or so people on this list
what is ucla's class size?
how many are usually accepted? anyone know these #'s ?
UCLAstudent said:The class size is 169, including 24 in Drew and 24 in the UCR program. So, 121 are in the "regular" UCLA program. The 2005 US news book says that 238 were accepted to fill the class.
xxbruinxx said:ouch...that makes the chances of getting off the waitlist seem pretty bad....right?
pico61 said:Not really, chances are high. If the class size is 169 and they offered 238 acceptances that means that 69 people came off the waitlist, i.e. the unranked waitlist since this is the one they exhaust first. Probably explains why one hears that most of the class seems to get off the waitlist.
Not necessarily. That would only be correct if they accepted the minimum number (169) up front. On the other extreme, they could have accepted the full 239 up front, in which case it dropped down to 169 as some people declined their acceptances...leaving zero spots for people off the waitlist. In actuality, it is probably somewhere between the two numbers.pico61 said:Not really, chances are high. edit: xxbruinxx beat me to it. your math isn't so bad after all eh? 😉
xxbruinxx said:my math was never very good....how do you get 69...if they offered 238 acceptances, couldn't the whole class potentially come from the acceptance batch? in which case they wouldn't even use the waitlist?
I have no idea what you are saying.pico61 said:Accepting 239 up front is absurd. If they did this, then the # of accepted students that is reported should be closer to 300 or more. If they pull someone off the waitlist, this goes into the accepted count (An acceptance offer whether the applicant declines or accepts counts as an acceptance). Ucla accepts perhaps a little over the minimun for the ucla program. The waitlist/hold list runs between 100-200 students. Between 50-75 students can decline the initial acceptance which would leave like 60 students officially in the class then they would draw like 50 or so students from the waitlist to fill the class.
Bluntman said:Oh and I forgot to point out earlier...DrBoris calculated awhile ago that the class of straight Geffen MDs is 109 if you exclude the 12 MSTP spots.:
Just lookin out for ya, girl! 😉DrBorisCA said:![]()

You rock, Bluntman.
WhiteRussian said:I'm not really sure where the 238 came from, it really doesnt sound right. I have the 2006 US News and it doesnt have any column for # of accepted students. Most schools (even top tier ones like UCLA 😀) have to accept around 2x as many people as there are spots simply because the people that get accepted there likely have several other great offers.
So if you do a little math and happen to have the US News and MSAR you can multiply the acceptance rate in US NEWS 4.5% times the total # of applicants in the MSAR (7018) and get a total of around 316 acceptances given. 316 is a much more reasonable number and i'm sure that includes waitlist acceptanes, and is for all the different programs. If UCLA knows what they are doing they will probably initially accept around 250, then start taking people from various waitlists. Hope that helps, and Good Luck you Waitlisters 👍
