So I talked to the admissions coordinator (who apparently knows who I am since he--and a lot of the other admissions staff at UCSF--read SDN also

) and we had a good conversation about my application, and being waitlisted. He also profusely apologized and was genuinely shocked that I didn't make the cut, but I told him not to apologize since he had no real control over who gets in. He also said that the competition was extremely intense this year compared to others since they had invited 80 more people this year than years prior.
So in the course of the conversation, I did what you're not supposed to do--and asked him what my chances were from getting off the waitlist. He said that over the past 5-6 years, there have been no real definite trends on waitlisters being moved to being accepted, so he couldn't really say what my chances were *sigh*. But he genuinely seemed like he really wanted to help me out and make it next year on the chance that I don't make it.
He also said that UCSF and UCSD compare lists on who gets accepted in order to coordinate...but also that UCSF had started sending out their decision letters a week later than they had expected, which explains why so many people who got into UCSD still don't know about UCSF. He also seemed surprised about the people who got accepted to UCSD and who weren't even considered for UCSF, and vice versa. (I'm also assuming that since what he told me over the phone wasn't prefaced with "don't tell anybody else..." , I'm going to go ahead and put it out there.)
Hopefully those of you who are still waiting from UCSF will find out soon.
