UF c/o 2021 Applicants

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I may have to miss a friend's wedding for the same reason.. This is our future career, and it is hard to try and make both work. I understand you want to be there for your friend (as do I) but mine totally understands if I can't make it.

UF is my second choice and I didn't know whether or not they were planning on doing early interviews this year. I've been committed to attending this wedding for about a year now, and it's for the girl who was maid of honor at my wedding so missing it isn't something I wanted to consider. My friend would say that she understands but I know that she would be upset if I wasn't there, and I also haven't seen her or her soon-to-be-husband since before they deployed this year. I was totally fine with just being considered for regular admissions but it was their idea to do the Skype interview instead. So I'm hoping that means they really want to consider me for early admission. I don't think a video interview is quite as effective as interviewing in person but it'll still give me a chance to talk about things I didn't have time to address in my application.

Yeah it is such bad timing south these intviews! Trust me, it is not something I want to miss either.

FYI though, I know someone that did skype interviews at every school they applied to (including FL) and still got in. So there is hope with doing them, and it's great FL even offers that as an option. Most schools wouldn't. I hope you figure something out!

Hi everyone! I'm a current 2nd year and have been around the interview process for 2 years now. If you guys need any tips or advice I'm happy to help 🙂. Hope to see EVERYONE at interviews!

Hey I would love any/all interview advice, question examples, what they're looking for exactly with regards to personal questions etc 🙂

I removed the original post because I asked in another thread. Sorry guys

Did you get an early one as well?

Hey pre-dental peeps! I have an interview at UF on Dec 14. Clearly i missed the first batch of interviews (sad) but i was excited to receive the supp app and the interview invitation slightly after.

Anyone else interviewing this day? Tips? Advice? Anything? Something? Plz!
😕😵:xf:
This is pre-vet. But congrats on an interview for dental school.

Does anyone know if early interviews mean we will get early offers as well? It would be torture to have to wait 5 months until March to find out!

Stats:
IS GPA 3.72 GRE Q 161 V163

They will give some people early acceptances (December) and will defer others to the general pool of applicants who find out in February.

Everytime I get an email from UF, I get really excited- but it's always just an email encouraging me to sign up for the shelter med graduate program. :/

To everyone else who interviewed this past weekend, did anyone ask when they are planning on sending acceptances?

Edit: Never mind, the letter in the interview packet says we'll hear by mid-December. Good luck to everyone who interviewed!

You too? I wish that was good news for us im resigning myself to fate. I need to find a job up there or a part time position for small animal.

So I haven't received any communication from UF since September 13th when. I received an email saying that the received my application materials. Should I be concerned or is this the case for other people as well? All of the other schools have contacted me keeping me updated, does UF just not do this or is something going on? Should I contact them? I'm IS and attend UF for my undergrad.

I think for the most part no good news. I haven't gotten updates since September. My friend got a rejection email already (a couple months ago). I wouldn't contact them- last I remember they send out invites in January with the interview in February.

I'm just sitting in constant limbo and fear because UF doesn't tell anyone anything until then unless its the early folks. Im actually volunteering for a AAEP distal limb ultrasound wetlab tomorrow and Sat so that is a healthy distraction.

Nope. :/ last year they were alerted 10/30 or 1/14, interview 11/15 or 2/13 or 2/20, accepted 2/25.

Least its better than the old days my vet said that you could tell if you got in if your letter was certified or not. Im not getting my hopes up.

Certified?
Certified mail instead of regular postage.

Im just resigning myself to fate and planning for next year because im sure im probably not getting in. I know thats probably self defeatest but its better than getting my hopes up and getting shot down.

I only have around 400 small animal hours and over 2500 equine/large. Im 26 I should have applied ten other places besides UF but I wanted to make my application the best it could be. Its probably a pipe dream seeing the early interview numbers. I need more small prob and to retake the GRE. Im getting to old to keep doing tech work waiting.

Oh wow... Okay. That's crazy haha. I guess they wanted to be sure acceptances officially to them. Yeah, I'm keeping a pretty negative outlook as well... Oh well...

That's still pretty good 2500 equine/ LA hours. I lack the most in experience-600 or so SA Vet experience. And that's really it for vet experience. 400 or so SA, 20 Food Animal (piglets), 200 Equine. 1200 hours general employment working summers for my dad's company growing up. And then I do research as well, so 200 hours? I definitely don't want to get my hopes up.

And I wouldn't feel too badly about your numbers not matching the early interview's numbers. They're the insane rated students that every vet school dreams of haha. After they wake up from the dream, they'll start recruiting the normal people hahahaha

1200 is good I just got dang lucky working 40 hrs a week for almost two years with an equine vet. SA is hard to get I got lucky at 18 with my local vet's ( he died of bone cancer so no LOR and miss him) tech going on a months or so vacation. The brought me on for about 3 months seasonal then eased me off as I went back to school .

Farm is good and hard to get. I have some but just 100 hrs give or take volunteering during college at a horse rescue with a farm.

They like well rounded folks and you seem pretty well rounded. You have to remember im older than you and had a bit more time to rack up some extra hours here and there because of that. I was lucky the equine vet really needed a tech and was working me 10-14 hour days ambulatory.

I'm probably going to apply to some of the schools like midwestern or LMU if I don't get in because they beat the Caribbean in living expenses.

Im wondering if we can add new experience to our uf application..or at least the vmcas.

For the record I'd be honored to be a vet student beside you at UF. You sound like a great person 😉

I know we can't add new experience to the VMCAS for this cycle- they officially closed and locked it October 15th. We can't even log into VMCAS. I'm thinking it'll be the same for UF. Yeah... Farm experience is hard to get. I was lucky and fortunate with mine. The equine was horse camp for girl scouts- and then I only had 2 other farm experiences. Once, when my dad's buisness partner's wife was kidding goats (she raises and breeds Russian Dwarf Goats) she let me come out there for the day to help. And the second was a researchesque project (but not really research) with piglets with one of my classes. If I don't get in, I'm not sure what I want to do. I know that I *should* get different types of vet experience, but I worked at the same vet for 2 summers now, and (I went from shadowing, to working 11 hours a week, and at the end of the summer, they were paying me 40 hours a week and I had a lot of off the clock shadowing as well) and I have such a good working relationship with that clinic- I'd hate to lose that connection. He's written my LORs and he's such a passionate vet- definitely the kind I aspire to.

And I'd be honored to be in class with you as well. Hopefully we both get in! 😀

So I'd have to take both courses online. I'm honestly a little nervous about online courses since I know most of them are at your own pace and I'm somewhat of a procrastinator. =) Where did you take Animal Nutrition?
I took both at St Petersburg college online last summer and both classes were pretty fun and very interesting. Animal science especially was very interesting. They're both pretty easy A classes. I'm a procrastinator too, but since they were fun classes I actually wanted to do the work.

anyone know when we are going to hear for early interviews... its two weeks since the last email went out

last year's dates: UF- alerted 10/30 or 1/14, interview 11/15 or 2/13 or 2/20, accepted 2/25

Last year early interviewers did hear back around this time. The email we got two weeks ago said they hope to have decisions out by winter break which is this Friday

Does anyone know for regular interview day people if we need to send in our Fall transcripts?

Does anyone know for regular interview day people if we need to send in our Fall transcripts?
From the course verification email in October:
"We will request a final transcript after the Spring 2017 semester via email, unless at the time of application you were less than 80% complete with your prereqs. In this instance, we will request an updated transcript for Summer, Fall, and Spring if necessary."

Good luck to everyone else! I hope you all get interview invites and I hope you get them soon.

I know!!! Hopefully they'll be sent soon. Anybody know when UF goes on Christmas break??
I just want them to tell me im not accepted so I can move on...

The invites won't go out until mid-January so we can ratchet down the anticipation 😉.

UGH I keep having dreams that I've been offered an interview this is overly unnecessarily stressful.

Maybe they only came mid- January last year because there was an unforeseen delay, and they meant to send them before Christmas but they couldn't, and this year they plan to send them before Christmas

Hm I'll double check the previous years because I like that idea 😉 but no. My guess is they start reviewing everyone else now since they've identified the top runners and tried to get them already.

God I hope so...I did get good feedback at the AAEP/ISELP lab I helped with. Only part that made me nervous was holding the horse for Jean-Marie Denoix, yeah no not letting that man get kicked or thatd be automatic rejection. My vet made a point of telling the lab participants I applied and to send good vibes. Local vets did get calls to review our packets..mine recused herself because of me and the fact shes busy.

Just wish it could have been when I could have put it on my application. Im late volunteering for this horse rescue I said I would to UF, life caught up to me. Hope they dont look down on that.

I keep telling myself that these were just the top folks and maybe just maybe I have a snoballs chance in Florida here.
