I am! Any one have a timeline on when they heard back?

Hey guys I’m a current first-year at UGA CVM, and also received my bachelors from UGA! Feel free to send any questions you have my way! We received our decisions on February 16.

Thank you! Do you recall when you got your interview invite?

If you look back at last year’s thread you’ll be able to see when everyone started posting about interviews. Last year the vmcas deadline was about a week later than this year because of the hurricanes in Florida and Texas, but ideally still should be a similar timeframe.

Yep, no interviews! I appreciated the fact that they didn’t interview, as that’s one less thing to stress about. However, the downside is that you really don’t have any way to gauge where you stand. You’ll only get a few generic emails from the CVM up until decisions come out.

Yes, that is very true! And for people like me, I feel like a have a better chance once I can actually get in front of someone.

Hey y'all! I'm also a first year at UGA, feel free to ask me any questions as well . I'm so excited for you guys!!!

This probably goes without saying, but does anyone know if UGA mainly contacts your more recent references to interview? I just realized that I haven't been extensively involved in veterinary experience (save the occasional shadowing) for a while due to grad school and working full time, so it's likely many of my veterinary references won't remember me. Thanks everyone, forgive my neuroticism :dead:

When you say "references", are you referring to the people who wrote you letters of recommendation, or just people you've had previous vet experience with? As far as I know, they will only contact your LOR writers, who hopefully know who you are 😉

Thank goodness, for some reason I was concerned they were going to talk to a slew of people I listed in the experiences section. It definitely makes more sense that they'd contact your LOR writers, haha. 🙄 Thank you so much, that's good to hear!

Edit: I don't know why my lizard brain thought that the adcom has that much time to invest in each applicant. Thanks anxiety! 🤣

Thanks for the ref, I knew I had heard that from somewhere! At least it sounds like they contact more recent experiences/those that you have worked with the most (hopefully), so at least it won't be completely out of the blue for those people. 👍

Aaaand that's probably part of why they let you opt out of having those experiences contacted. Whoops. Thanks again!

Has anyone gotten an email from admissions saying they received everything? UGA is one of the few schools I haven’t gotten any contact from other than when they received the supplemental app.

I haven't received anything either! I looked through last years thread and it looks like some people received some sort of email correspondence early-mid November

If its anything like last year, no news is good news as long as you submitted all your VMCA stuff. The only email I got in the fall was telling me that I didn't have everything that I needed to apply (which was obviously rectified 😛).

I received an email on 11/7 stating that I had met all of the requirements for a complete application, then an email in mid-December reminding us to send in our Fall transcripts. These are pretty much the only emails I received from the CVM until receiving my decision letter in February. The lack of updates from the CVM can definitely be anxiety-inducing because you just have no idea what's happening with the admissions process, but try not to worry too much!! Also keep in mind that the admissions process is constantly being tweaked, so don't panic if yall's timeline of emails isn't exactly like ours.

Yeah I’m trying not to, it’s my instate so obviously the one I’m most concerned about, and it’s one of the few I haven’t received an update on. Thank you for the info!

Anyone else freak out over the fall transcript email this morning?? I wonder if it excluded anyone since it says "all qualified applicants"??

They sent out an email at the end of November that basically said they’d passed along apps that were in good standing so I assume it’s just the same sort of thing when they say “qualified applicants”.

We are getting closer guys, they should start calling references soon :help: Also curious if anyone knows if they early accepted any OOS like they did last year?

Can someone remind me - are these references generally just the people who wrote our eLORS or is it everything we listed on our experiences section?

It is usually just the people that wrote your letters, but it is not unheard of for them to call one of the experiences you put down especially if it was a big chunk of your hours. But also remember that they still have a couple hundred applications to go through, so it is not likely they will be able to call more than your eLORs.

Have anyone's references been contacted by admissions yet?
None from me, but idk if they would tell me unless I asked. I think they start calling more toward the end of Jan, but that would be nice if they are ahead of the game. We are getting so close though I’m excited :claps:

I don’t remember putting down a phone number for my references. Will they contact by email? Also has anyone received confirmation for sending transcripts?

I don't think they're sending confirmation emails for fall transcripts. At least thats what my last email from them stated.

Does anyone know when potential students have been called/emailed with an acceptance or rejection in the past?

2 years ago decisions went out on February 13. Last year a very small number of OOS people were accepted in December and everyone else found out February 16. As far as I know, decisions are released by email (not calls). Best of luck to you!

Their most recent email said late-February early-March, so I'm guessing it won't be until at least the week of the 18th.

Since no one answered the first part of your question, I think the references can put down a number when they enter your evaluations or UGA will try to contact them by email to set up a time to call them.

Hi! I wanted to ask any current or past students what made UGA stand out to you and why you picked to go to UGACVM?

I’m also curious to see what current students have to say, BTW the wait for UGA is killing me, it’s one of my top schools.

UGA was the only school I applied to (wasn't willing to incur OOS debt at other schools), so I can't tell you why I picked it over other schools, but I can tell you why it's great! A big seller for a lot of prospective students is our new teaching hospital (built in 2015). It really is an amazing hospital and way nicer than most human hospitals! 1st and 2nd year classrooms and labs are at the "old" vet school on UGA main campus, while the 3rd year classroom is at the new hospital. That being said, you still have multiple opportunities to spend time at the new teaching hospital as a 1st/2nd year, including clinical experiences for certain elective courses, palpation labs, or even joining a treatment crew.

Another great thing about UGA CVM is the professors. They are truly amazing... every single one. They are super dedicated to you as students, and do everything in their power to ensure everyone succeeds. Just as an example, our head anatomy professor would devote his entire weekend (I'm talking 10am-10pm each day) leading up to anatomy exams reviewing hourly with small groups. One weekend he even ran a MARATHON Saturday morning and still reviewed with us allll weekend long. And to top it off, he cooked the entire class a homemade meal at the end of the semester. I've never encountered more devoted professors than I have at UGA CVM.

A third great thing about the school is the sense of community and family that the vet school provides. The entire school is super close-knit, and you'll build close relationships not only with people in your class, but in all of the other classes as well as with your professors. And this isn't just my perspective; we recently had several people from various other vet schools and organizations visit us for a preliminary visit as part of our accreditation renewal, and they spoke with our dean about how they had never encountered a vet school with such a strong sense of community and comradery. Everyone is truly family and it's a great feeling knowing there are so many people you can rely on. There are tons of vet school intramural teams, big groups of students are always going out together on weekends, etc. etc.

Hope this helps! There are so many other great things about UGA CVM, but these are definitely the things I love most about the school. If you have any other questions about the school, feel free to ask!

I love the sense of closeness with the other students. That’s my biggest thing is to be able to bond with everyone in our class because we are together for the next four years.

Thank you for taking the time to write this, it will make my decision if I get accepted a lot easier with all of this information.

I wanted to ask something a little off topic... do you guys have any technology requirements? I know UF requires you to have a certain model of IPad. Also, is finding housing pretty easy in the Athens area? I have two cats and prefer to live alone.

They do require you to have a Mac laptop. The exact specifications can be found at the bottom of this page: UGA : DVM Application and Requirements

Some students prefer to use their iPads or other tablets for taking notes in class, but you will need the Mac laptop for taking exams (we take all exams on our laptops, and only Macs support the software).

As far as housing, there are a ton of options! It’s super easy to find housing, and relatively cheap. My class was actually just discussing this in a lecture the other day; most of us pay $425-600/ month for rent. Granted, most of us live with at least one roommate. It seems like the average 1 bedroom in Athens is $650-1000+ depending on the area you are willing to live in.

Is there a certain website or facebook group to find housing around the area and other students are renting out or finding roommates?

Once you've been accepted, the school will start a facebook group for your class. Quite a few people found roommates via this facebook group. I believe there are facebook groups for Athens housing as well. And of course you can always use apartmentfinder.com or something like that.
