lol no I think I was just tired and wasn't paying attention. Good luck! I'll be at LECOM-Erie that day.

Went to the convention today and thought it was pretty informative. My friends and I got to chill with a few first and second years for a while and got some really good advice. The school is incredibly nice and the students and faculty seem really happy being there. They definitely made a great impression in terms of that.

What are the chances to be taken off wait list ?

Waitlist, i believe is ranked based on numbers (GPA, MCAT), changes in those things should be updated regularly. I know people in my class who were pulled from waitlist because they updated their GPA at the end up the semester and it moved them up on the list.

Interviewing here tomorrow, pretty excited, although their OOS tuition isn't affordable/practical without a scholarship of some sort. We'll see how it goes 🙂

Good luck buddy!!! Let me know how it goes. I'm going in on Friday.

Emryal: Your stats seem fine. I believe you are around the stats that they are looking for. Just depends on your ECs.

My interview er said that is or oos doesn't matter once ypu received your interview

The student tour guide at my interview said that you can gain NJ residency during the 1st year of school (while paying OOS tuition) and then pay in-state tuition years 2-4. The student was from OOS and also received a 4 year scholarship of ~$10k/year. I dont know how common those scholarships are, but I was told that if you get an acceptance call, they will tell you then if you are selected for a scholarship.

I got an interview invite today!!👍:soexcited::clap:

They said they were going to email me a packet of information today but I guess they never got to it. Do you think i should call back or wait a little longer?

I am interviewing Nov 2 1:30pm!

congrats!!!

no, they send the email a day or two later.

You'll probably get it tomorrow. Mine was the day after too.

Hi everyone, I'm applying for the next cycle.
I was wondering if could tell me if my mcat score is competitive? I have a 28P (7PS, 11VR, 10BS). I'm worried that my PS score will bring my app down. Would you recommend I retake it or is my score still competitive. Also, I have a cGPA of 3.5 and a sGPA of 3.2.
I got in with that PS score, but I had a 3.7s gpa. So I would recommend either retaking mcat or consider doing a master's in science to bring your science gpa up.

Thanks, I'll post a summary of my day.

My interview er said that is or oos doesn't matter once ypu received your interview

The numbers say otherwise, although these are 5 years old:

In-State Interview %: 38%
OOS Interview %: 6.6%
Total Interview %: 11.5%

In-State Acceptance % (after interview): 64.2%
OOS Acceptance % (after interview): 30.3%
Total Acceptance % (after interview): 47.8%

Granted, the huge hurdle is the interview, but IS is still favored significantly after the interview.

is 11.5 % out of the total that send in their secondaries?

i don't understand this breakdown between instate and oos

Since UMDNJ is sponsored by the state and is a public school, UMDNJ has a major bias towards in-state students.

So to break down the stats, I think it's those who submit their secondaries and everyone in total, 11.5% of that TOTAL get an interview regardless of instate or out of state. Out of all the instate people that submit their primary and secondary, 38% of those instate people get an interview. And etc. Do you get it now?

Your MCAT is competitive. This school looks at the Bio score the most, and then verbal. PS is the least looked at. You'll be fine with this MCAT. I actually believe you'd also be fine with your GPAs, as long as the rest of your app looks good.

Good Luck!!

so you are saying that they only accept 30.3 % of that 11.5 % oos applicant where as they will acept 64.2 % of that 38 % is applicant?

so you are saying that they only accept 30.3 % of that 11.5 % oos applicant where as they will acept 64.2 % of that 38 % is applicant?

So 6.6% of every OOS who applied gets an interview. 30% of that is accepted.

38% of IS students who apply get an interview, and 60% of them are accepted.

hmm, then i wonder why my interviewer told me otherwise... he said that once you have the interview, you are all treated the same....

Here is my summary of the interview day:

Parking was sort of an issue because I couldn't find "decal parking" - very small sign behind the academic center.

I arrived about 20 minutes early and met with 3-4 other interviewees. I was only sitting for about 2 minutes until I interviewed. The interview lasted about 30 minutes.

My interviewer was a great guy, and seemed like an interesting fellow to have a beer with. Unfortunately, he was suited to my weaknesses. He devoted his life to OMM, and says its the basis of everything they do and everything they teach. I'm indifferent towards OMM (although he described it in a very interesting way). He was also focused in primary care, while I'm thinking of sub-specializing in medicine. Overall, I think I flubbed the interview. When he asked me MD vs DO, I didn't give him a straight answer, but I got the impression that he thought DO was my backup. I felt uncomfortable through most of it, and I'm not quite sure why. I don't think he left with the impression that I'd be a good fit. Maybe just an off-day.

I was then able to sit in on a class, Microbiology. I have an MS in Micro, so I thought the class was basic, but presented very well. Their curriculum is kind of odd, but it seemed like the students liked it. They only let 8 or so students do PBL, which sounds really awesome if you were one of the 8. They'll let you shadow PBL to decide if you like it.

The facilities were okay, but not quite as high-tech as other schools. The gym left something to be desired, as did the OMM lab. Gross Anatomy had a good number of bodies in it.

The most important thing: the faculty and staff were great. They were very friendly, approachable, and looked like they enjoyed being there.

No mention of research at all during the day. Wasn't shown any of the labs either. Stupid me forgot to ask too.

I don't think I'm going to be accepted; I felt the interview I gave with horrible. I'll be waitlisted at best, and definitely won't get that juicy scholarship 😛

Any questions, please PM me.

Those numbers are 5 years old, and a lot changes in 5 years. Also, this was only for one year, so maybe in-staters were just much better than year.

oh man, sorry about that...i thought this school was amazing. yeah especially if you were interviewing with DO or if you are interviewing at any DO school you need to have a clear reason why you are pursuing DO and not MD. And you can't say that you are pursuing DO as a backup. good luck with the rest of the interviews and acceptances...

Right, but I'm applying to MD schools too. I essentially mumbled out something like "there is a lot to consider when choosing a school; I don't think the title of the degree is all that important". Then we got back into the OMM thing.

I told him I thought the discrepancies between the two have shrunk, because MDs have adopted the patient-centered outlook of the DOs. I think that resounded with him a little bit, but that's about it, haha.

When I told the students he asked me if I would pick MD over DO, they were dumbfounded. Its all good. I definitely took something out of the experience.

Thanks for all the info. I'm sure it didn't go as poorly as you thought it did. I guess we'll see on Oct 19th though. I sent you a PM too.

EnergyDrink, do you know the name
of the doctor who interviewed you? Curious because of the comment you made about devoting his life to OMM.

And yeah man don't give up hope yet. I've heard stories where people thought they did terrible but made it in. Best of luck.

I'd prefer not to call him out (I don't think it's fair to him). I also want to reiterate that he wasn't a tough interviewer, I was(am) just a *******.

Anyone get the acceptance packet yet in the mail?

So, should I bring my leather portfolio to the interview or is it completely unnecessary?

+1.... there is very little in the interview feedback section

I think its pretty much a grab bag and is highly dependent on interviewer.

My interviewer talked very little about medicine and we just chatted.
Other people are grilled on weak points and reasons why.

Just know your application well and you should be fine.

So, should I bring my leather portfolio to the interview or is it completely unnecessary?

I'm bringing mine just in case.

I looked at the interview feedback section and just wanted to see if there were any other pointers. Being thorough and all.

It's definitely unnecessary.

I think the best advice I was ever given is make the interviewer's job easy to explain you to the adcom. Go in with the mindset that they already like you enough to spend some time with you. If I went in with this mindset, I would be looking forward to my acceptance call 😛

Hey guys did anyone else get wait listed or know your chances once you have been wait listed?

folks,

is it in writing that they give OOS students instate tuition after the 1st yr?

Did you guys receive a complete email after you sent in your secondary? I sent it in a couple weeks ago but haven't heard anything...

Yes I got a complete email once I submitted my secondary. Try calling them.

On another note, waiting for Oct 19th!!!! This is going to take forever.
