So... I am #23 on the waitlist. What do you guys think are the chances I may get in? 🙁

I don't believe they mail physical letters anymore, just emails and phone calls. Are we being mailed acceptance letters?
I know it’s not the same thing, but my girlfriend is in Pharmacy school at Minnesota, and she uses a MacBook for her laptop, and an iPad with the Apple Pencil for notes. She really likes it, and that’s what I’m planning on doing! Definitely not cheap unfortunately but it seems to work really well.I’m looking into getting a new computer/tablet before school starts in the fall and obviously I want to make sure it’s a good choice for the few schools that are still options for me. I’m leaning towards a tablet with a keyboard and pen so that I can draw stuff and take handwritten notes in addition to typing things.
Does anyone know if an iPad vs a surface pro vs something else is preferable at Minnesota?

I'm also interested in Alliebird's question. I know that some programs don't run on Apple OS, but you can typically run a virtual OS within anything to emulate (though I would like to avoid this in following the advice to "keep it simple, stupid"). As far as I know, MN doesn't require any of these types of programs, though any confirmation/info would be helpful. Thanks 🙂

One potential issue with using a tablet as your sole computer is that the Lockdown Browser we use for some exams is not able to be downloaded on some tablets. For example, my iPad won't support the Lockdown Browser so I use a combo of my MacBook and iPad. Not really familiar with Surface Pros though!
Lockdown browser is used a lot during first year and less so later on, but compatibility with that is pretty important. I think some people have had issues with it on Ipads. I know some people do what gabynicolex said and use their Ipad for notes and some kind of laptop for the exams/quizzes that require that.
Other than lockdown browser there aren't a lot of other limiters for what you should get. (They send out a document of recommendations that I think have to do with imaging, but I think most computers don't have issues even if they don't meet all those requirements)
Do they make it obvious when the lockdown browser is used? (i.e. NOT in a pop quiz type scenario)
I purchased a "cheap" windows laptop at the beginning of my pre-req journey (summer 2016), that I'm sure I could use during lockdown browser days/moments, but would love to expand to newer/better technology for the non-broswer days/moments. (e.g. I could bring my "cheap" old laptop to class when I know lockdown browser is being used, and I could worry-free utilize a new purchase on/in other days/classes).
So far, in my experience, yes. We've never had a pop quiz that they made us whip out our computers and use the LockDown browser (or a pop quiz at all for that matter). I'm sure there's a handful of people in our class that only bring their tablets unless they know they will need their computers for something!
100%: the Canvas website will make it very clear on the quiz itself, and the professors let you know ahead of time if exams use lockdown or not. It has always been used for exams and not other kinds of assignments.Do they make it obvious when the lockdown browser is used? (i.e. NOT in a pop quiz type scenario)

I have not, ive been wondering about it thoughHas anyone on waitlist called and seen if you moved up at all??
I was told not to expect any movement to start happening until around April 15th when students offered seats had to submit their decisions regarding enrollment.I have not, ive been wondering about it though

If that doesn't work you can search facebook for "University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine Class of 2024"
Oh gosh, I hope the best for you!Hmm, sent a request since I'm theoretically graduating with this class (although with the pandemic forcing my research to a grinding halt right now, I'm less confident in this assertion), but had to answer "no" to whether I've been admitted to that class. We'll see if they let me in lol

XD Show this coronavirus who's boss!I have infiltrated the group.
So this means I HAVE to graduate in 2024, right? Imma tell the pandemic that.
Got a waitlist update today that the class is now full! Congrats to those who will be attending 🙂
Honestly loved this school so much and it was one of my tippy top choices, but also slightly relieved(?) that I didn't get pulled off the waitlist just because I know it'll be such a tough decision if I did and I think the wisest decision for me is to go to the cheaper school and thank myself for it in 4 years. I hope we can still connect over conferences and whatnot 🙂 See y'all on the other side
Good luck, @Lisagk !! I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time in your program and you'll be a GREAT vet.
I think UMN is hosting the BI Summer Scholars research program in ... 2022? So do a summer research project and come hang out in Minny in the time of year where the weather is good 😉
Oh heck yea! I'd definitely be down for that!
Also I'm pretty sure I spoke to you very very briefly during one of the interview day student panels and if not, there is someone else also at your school who is pretty much exactly like you 😀
I was wondering the same 🙁Am I right to believe the email sent yesterday to those on the waitlist stating the class is full, that it’s a done deal? I might have had too much hope reading past years threads there would be some decent movement on the IS waitlist. Anyone previously waitlisted have input?
Two years ago updates were sent out approximately every two weeks for the first month, and after that became less frequent (I'm not sure how often it was, maybe once a month, but I was off the waitlist by that point). You can call and check anytime thoughTo avoid harassing Karen and Violetta too much (I'm sure it's too late for that) does anyone know whether the waitlist ranks will automatically be updated each week, or do we need to call the admissions office in order to find out?
Yep, it should apply to us as well.Am I right to believe the tuition freeze applies to us? It says the only exemptions are the med school, dentistry and 3 professional masters programs.
