My current GPA is 2.97, but if I pull it up to at least a 3.0 by the end of the year, would I have a chance in getting in University of Toronto pharmacy? My first time taking so Idk..

UT's cut off for cGPA is 2.7 I think, however a low cGPA relative to the pool average will put you at a disadvantage. That aside, there have definitely been people accepted with cGPAs in the high 2s. Your PCAT meets all of the cutoffs from last year (composite is good too) and, as PhArMaCiSt1 previously mentioned, the cutoffs are not anticipated to rise this year. Since cGPA may be a weak point, the onus is on you to brush up on your interview skills and stand out during MMIs 😎. Raising your cGPA above 3.0 can't hurt either right? 👍

oh did they update the website or something?

I'm not sure, I haven't been to the Q&A section since summer but they must've updated it once they opened up the online application.
On another note, the interview invite date is soooooooo close 😀😀

Yeah! I am probably going to get an interview with 82 composite, and hopefully I can get in. 🙂 3.0 is not a horrible GPA as long as my pcat and interview makes up for other things.

annnd the official count down begins, 9 days until invites everyone 😀 😀

yayy! is march 11th the day for sure? I couldn't find anywhere that said this. Also did they post invites right at 12 am last year or was it later in the day?

you can find all the dates on a document they posted on PharmSIS. And no, last year they sent the invites around 5-6 pm ish if I remember correctly... but they did post the pcat cut offs right at midnight.

Hi, I'm a new member to the forum, but I have been reading this thread for 2011 cycle and 2010 cycle for over the year.

I was wondering if I can get some insight or opinion about how competitive my pcat score is.

Composite 79
Biology, Reading Comp 76
Verbal 40
Quant 86
Chem 86
Conventions, Problems 3,3
GPA 3 ish

I applied last year, received an interview with previous scores. I was rejected for admission. The above are my new scores. I hope to become UT Pharmer this coming cycle

Thank you in advance to all comments and insight =)

To me, you have a very solid shot... your chem is very good and your composite is quite nice. I've heard of people getting in with low 70's composite so your scores are not weak by any measures.

Do you mind if I ask what your previous scores were for last year, and was it because of PCAT that you didn't get admissions?

Does anyone know how they calculate the composite? I think RedPharmer clearly did better then me but their composite is 1 less?

and here are my pcat scores

Btw, Did most people choose May interviews as their 1st choices? just curious

Hey pharmacy0,
I think the composite score is calculated simply by adding all of your raw scores from each section. Then the total raw score is compared to determine your overall percentile ranking. Though RedPharmer did better in most sections VA was 40, that is likely what caused your composite to be 1 percentile higher. Also note that between each section the raw scores correlating to percentile rankings will vary. For example, a raw score of say, 460 corresponding to a percentile of 90 in VA may only correspond to a percentile of 84 in Quant. This discrepancy will cause your composite scores to sometimes seem higher (or lower) than you would otherwise expect.

I picked May as my first choice for interview dates. Who in their right mind would pick March? I don't know about you guys but I have midterms the week before, the week of, and the week after March 21 , so it's kind of hard to prep for interview, travel to Toronto then back. I'll do it if I have to, but obviously it's not my first choice.😀

nice pcat scores 😀 People seem to have done very well on the Jan pcat. I`m not sure about others but I know may was my first option 🙂

My last years were..

Quant 78
Chem 64
Comp 64

Although my scores last year were sufficient for meeting the interview prereqs, they were certainly not competitive. 🙁

I chose May as my primary choice of date for interview as well. I heard they give May priority to students that go to universities further away from Toronto. Like students from close Waterloo to far away UBC get May so they can finish their term and get interviewed. Students that go to UT are likely to get the march or april date (i forget..) This is a rumour I heard, but it makes sense to me to operate this way.

oh wow really? 64 comp. what was your gpa??

with 3.55 gpa and 85 comp, do you think ill be able to get an interview?

daaaaum.

those are great stats.
as long as all your scores in the individual sections meet the cut-off then you should be able to get an interview!

Hi everyone! I'm new to this forum
My PCAT score is..
Bio 99
Reading 75
Verbal 60
Quan 75
Chem 96
Composite 94
Writing 3/3

and GPA is 3.2 ish.. I have really bad chem marks (two chemistry courses in 60s). Would I be able to get an invitation for the interview with these horrible chemistry marks???

I think you will get an interview. Receiving an interview is solely based on your pcat scores. Only FINAL admissions consider your grades. Low chemistry marks may get you flagged though as 'weak in chemistry'

Really?? Interview = 100% PCAT? :S?

I don't think that's true...there must be a GPA component to the interview as well. Obviously if someone is well below the cutoff GPA then they wouldn't get an interview. But no one can really say for sure, i suppose.

Its the truth. You cannot base it off grades because there is still this Winter term to finish. People may even be finishing their prerequisite courses this term so it would be unfair to not include the grades they achieve at the end of this term. The final transcript is asked from students way after the first interview date. If you meet their minimum cut offs for interviews, then you get an interview. Admission is a different story..

I think that's true...there must be no GPA component to the interview.🤣

Anyone meeting PCAT cut-off with GPA lower than 70 % can donate $300 to have MMI trial from U of T Pharmacy.

I think to receive an interview you need to have the mininum requirements on the pcat and also at least a 70% cgpa. Since the preqs now require that you undergo at least 2 years in university, then your grades from yr1 and 1st semester in yr2 will be used to determine that (if you are upper year then they will use whatever you cgpa is at the time). After you do the interview and if you get the mininum mark on it, then they will rank you on ur interview performance, pcat and your grades. The percentage that each of these three areas play in the final ranking hasn't been given out but there is speculation that the interview plays a major role in the ranking.

My question is, if only meeting the cutoffs guarantees you an interview then why doesn't EVERYBODY get an interview? I am presuming that not a lot of people are applying with PCAT scores below 50 so I think its safe to say almost everyone who applies does make the cutoff. However U of T still manages to cut the applicant pool down to about 600 students by interview time so where do the rest of the students go?

If everyone who applies does make the PCAT cut-off then the top 500 candidates by PCAT composite ranking will be selected for the MMI.

Aw man. If this is true, then I would've rewrote it. I only wrote the PCAT once almost two years ago and managed a 77, which I thought was solid enough in combination with my cGPA.

fml.

oh people stay calm, all this waiting is gonna be over in SIX days 😀 😉

And I'm sure our speculations is not gonna change anything... that said, just for the fun of it, what are your predictions for the new PCAT cutoffs???
I bet that there won't be ANY changes, anyone else?

I second that.
CHM: 50
Everything else: 20
Essay: 3/2.5
They didn't change the cutoffs for the last cycle when there well were over 1000 applicants, so I doubt there would be changes to this cycle's cut offs. If anything else, since there are less of us to cut the cutoffs should go down:laugh:. But who knows? Maybe there are a lot of people with stellar marks that just don't post here. I don't keep track, but I think only about 30 unique users post here.

In 6 days though, I predict we'll get some new posters!! 😛

Do you think that the number of interviews will remain at 500 like last year? If the cut offs stay the same and there are less of us, shouldn't this number decrease as well (I hope :xf:)?

btw. i'm kind of glad i'm in the middle of midterms, it's the only thing distracting me from this wait!!

dun quite understand where you guys got the 600 from. My application was submitted on dec 16th and it is already 1300 sumthing in application number. Shouldn't it mean that there are at least 1300+ people applied?

no, i believe the applications start at 1000 (because I signed up on the first day applications were open) 😀 and it was 100X, so you'd be 300

Congratulations Pharmacy0. You are going to get your first choice of interview date because the seclection date of MMI based on first come first served.

Good luck to all.:welcome:

Maybe 1000 people signed up that day.

Guys, my cGPA is about 3.55 but 2 of my 3 years I didn't get take a full course load... 3/5 courses. Does anyone know if it will hurt my chances? Maybe I should take another year with a full courseload before applying?

TWO more days😀😀😀😀😀 Yayyyyyyyy
P.s. Am I the only one excited here? lol I guess everyone is tooo busy with midterms and labs!

I'm pretty pumped too. There haven't been many posts lately, but I guess all pre-interview questions have been asked and answered already 🙄.

Hope to hear good news from you and everyone else on friday!

Well they use your best scores even if your most recent one is lower. I think you have a fair good chance considering you were waitlisted and the applicant pool is smaller this year. Do you mind if I ask your stats for last year?

Oh lord, it's gonna be a very interesting weekend... I've got THREE midterms to study for and the added stress of hearing about interviews 🙄

So before I claps under all the stress, let me wish you all the BEST on Friday 😀

Just a heads up though, if UofT decides to do things as they did last year, PCAT cut offs will be posted TONIGHT (or "tomorrow morning" I should say) at 12:00 am sharp.

Good luck everyone 🙂 👍

I think you have a good shot. solid GPA (the same as mine 😎)and PCAT is improved and you know what to expect from the interview 👍 good luck

Thanks guys. It's good to see all the pre-pharm people so supportive of each other. Although strictly speaking, we are all direct competitors.
If plethora of people log into pharmsis to check the results at 12 am, I'm hoping that the server doesn't crash, because every U of T student knows how frustrating ROSI servers can be during fall registrations.

Wow good luck to you on your midterms, and don't stress about interview invites because I'm sure you are getting one 🙂 And ya I think they will be putting up the cut offs tonight but its unlikely that the percentiles will increase from last years.
Good luck everyone 😀 We're sooooo close!!!!

Last year I had no problems with the server, I logged in at 12 and it was fine. Same with when the final decisions were made, I had no trouble logging in so lets hope its the same this time around 🙂
