University of Waterloo Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hey Everyone!
I was just wondering if you all have submitted your applications yet. And how detailed were you for the AP questions?

Good luck to us all!!!!:xf:

I don't think it's too late, and I'm pretty sure Julie sends you confirmation email the day the get it or maybe the next day (not a 100% sure on this)...

What I did was I went to post office and purchased a prepaid express envelope and filled up all the address information and gave it to my referee along with the reference forms... that way she didn't have to pay for it and I also got a tracking number to make sure it was posted.

Yeah, I had to get a prepaid express envelope too. I have been tracking the envelope, and it says that it was delivered yesterday at 10:16 am (Tuesday), but I haven't received an email yet. Should I be worried?

As for the person who asked if we all submitted our APs, I still haven't - I want to look over it a few more times. I'm going to probably submit it this weekend.

Dont be worried, my reference sent the form by regular mail on a Wednesday and I didn't get an email until Sunday. Since you mailed it via express mail, I'm sure you'll get an email by the end of the week.

Is there anything wrong with faxing the reference letter? Or does it have to be mailed? I remember reading that it can be either faxed or mailed.

When I asked Julie, she said that faxing or mailing works. She said you should choose to either fax or mail, not both because that will cause extra paper which will slow down your process.

Okay thank you for replying!
I told my referee that he can fax it if he liked and he did a while ago. However, I still didn't get an e-mail from Julie confirming that she had received it, so I'm very worried. I e-mailed her two days ago and still no reply 🙁.

Hmm.. You should wait; I was dealing with the same thing and she emailed yesterday. Call Louise.

Will Waterloo's School of Pharmacy program confer PharmD degree to the incoming 2012 students in the near future? or just bachelor's degree?

If anyone has been accepted to this school, please let me know so you can be added to the roll call for 2014/2015. Please post in the sticky thread or PM me your acceptances and the program you will be attending (if accepted to multiple schools).🙂

Thanks for the msg but Waterloo doesn't send out acceptances until June. Ya, Canadian schools are slow.

ahhh the wait is so torturous
the forums this time around are dead 🙁 why? we should be just as excited as the previous forums lol

Julie e-mailed me my reference letter confirmation today. Pretty good considering my reference faxed it on Friday. Only have to complete the application and wait for the interview requests now.

Why don't you guys post your stats?!?!?

just a general question guys: did you guys use all the 80-word limit for all your answers?

It just seems like a TON of work and writing to write 80 words for EVERY work and volunteer experience you had 😱 I'm just confused, what did you guys do?

I think the max is 80 words, but all they ask from you is to describe your position and duties. If you worked flipping burgers, for example, how many ways can u describe that? lol They just want to see if you are a well-rounded person, I guess. Write enough so that they understand what you did at your job, but don't overly explain everything - that gets annoying. For me personally, I was very close to the 80-word limit, because I had a lot of responsibilities and roles at my job/volunteer experiences.

I didn't write that much. I don't think they favour those who write more! As long as you described your duties effectively, that's good enough. Good luck 🙂

By the way, does anyone know where we can find photos of the inside of the pharm building? I searched the web and I only see pictures of exterior and I'm very interested in knowing how it looks inside 😛

Hey guys,

Does it matter if we list 2 credits in social sciences on the application form or do they prefer 1 social science and 1 humanities credit? I have both but my 2 SS credits are a higher mark than the 1 humanities credit.

Thanks in advance for your reply.

When I asked, Louise said they preferred one from each. If its not a big grade difference, go for the 1 social science and 1 humanities option.

All I know is that they can't be the same subject... for example you can't list first year English (full year) and second year english (full year also)... in this cause they would accept only one credit.

Yah, I am doing both... is it because of the PCAT that you didn't consider UofT?

No, not the PCAT - I mean the PCAT had some minor role, but I wouldn't choose not to apply because of a test; the major reason was that I want a change, I've been in Toronto all my life. Also, I have three friends in UofT, and when I visited the school with them, I found I liked Waterloo better. It's all just a personal choice, but UofT remains a great school. Good luck to everyone that applied there. :luck:

That's a very legit reason... So I'm assuming that you have visited both schools then? And what were things that you liked about Waterloo better, if you don't mind me asking? I'm in process of weighing pros and cons now so it would be nice to hear what other people think of the two schools. 👍

As far as the education system is concerned, both schools offer great programs, unique to each school, of course, but both are capable of making someone a great Pharmacist. The credibility factor gives UofT the upper hand, but surely Waterloo will receive credibility very soon. Both schools have great campuses, but it depends whether or not you like a big city or something smaller like Kitchener. Toronto is the place to be I guess, so most people will enjoy their time between school and a social life here. Personally, I've been here for all my life and when I do get into Waterloo, I want to move out a bit and be away from everything for a while, that's why I prefer Waterloo - because it allows me to do that. Also, you must weigh in the financial element, because if you live in Toronto (with your parents or w.e), you won't have to worry about residence or about renting your own place - which saves you A LOT of money - this is probably one of the biggest factors, I think, for any student so do take that into consideration. I always thought I was going to go to UofT Pharmacy, that's where I wanted to go ever since I wanted to be a Pharmacist (ever since I was little) but it just depends on the moment you actually apply and where you imagine yourself being. My friends at UofT are honestly having a great time, sure it's a hard program but they enjoy it and they're saving LOTS of money, because they live here and they know people from here so they feel at home, which gives them a peace of mind to focus on school. So I don't really know, I wouldn't be able to suggest a better place... you have to make that decision for yourself and see what's best for you, because both schools are great and I guess if you're worried about credibility and it's stressing you out, then UofT is the place to be because they're already a credited school.

Hi everyone! I'm currently applying to Waterloo and U of T, happy to have found this board! I'm a second year student at UWO right now and super nervous about my applications. :scared:

Welcome to SDN 🙂

I'm a second year at UWO as well 😀 Currently studying for a pharmacology midterm at Taylor's library.

What program are you in?
And also, did you apply to UofT last year?

Nice to know I'm in good company! 🙂 I'm actually in the biomed pharmacology module but I didn't take any pharm courses haha This is my first year applying to any pharmacy school. So you are applying to Waterloo too? I haven't submitted my application yet, I don't think it's good enough haha 🙁

Does anyone know how the process works? Like, how people many from the applications they choose to interview? And then from the interviews does everyone have a clean slate and only the interviews would determine whether you get in or not?

From what I know, they plan on admitting 120 people each year, but I'm not sure how many people they will INTERVIEW. I would love some info on this, so if anyone knows please let us know!

Edit: I read somewhere that they might be interviewing 240 students.

HelloEveryone - you ready to be classmates soon? lol i'm excited this time around 😀

anddddddddddddddddd... the countdown begins: 56 days until interview invitations are sent out!

LOL, I have hard time deciding whether that's addressing me specifically or it's addressing "everyone" on this thread... hehe 😛

That said, you bet I'm ready and, oh-so-pumped to be classmates...and I'm excited as hell for this cycle too 😀 😀 😀 BUT sigh, 56 days seems like such a long time, but on the bright side I get to hear from UofT pretty soon 🙂

And its submitted!!!! Now comes the hardest part => waiting lol

Hi everyone

I finally got my quest account activated and under transcripts it says
Transcript Action: Desired but it also says Date Received: Jan 31 2011

Does anyone know what this means? Should I be okay?

Thanks a bunch
Goodluck!

haha, yeah it was for you because last cycle we said it was good I didn't get in so we can be classmates lol :highfive:
you'll be surprised at how fast time is going to fly by - which uni will you accept if you get both?

yayy, just submitted, what a relief....it feels really good to be done with it!

I don't like how they clump all the stuff we write for the long answer questions...i feel like it doesnt flow properly 🙁

haha, yah i remember that actually.

and to be honest, I still don't know 100% which uni i'll attend should i get into both (hopefully :xf:) ... I yet have to visit Waterloo's pharmacy school... the sad thing is that they offer no tours AND I just found out that our interviews will NOT be even in the school of pharmacy, so technically the first time we'll see the school will be first day of classes 😡 🙁

we have until 4.30 today to submit right??? I'm fully done, but I just wanna have more time to read it over a few more times 😛

Yup until 4:30p I guess a lot of us were late submitters.. i submitted it last night at midnight LOL

I also agree about the clumping of the first two questions, I wanted to have paragraphs so badly.. it felt weird reading it all jumbled together

Question: how far back did you all go for ECs.. does anyone think that high school is too far back? Opinions please!

I used some high school, but I guess it depends on how long ago high school is for you - mine was only 2.5 years ago, I'm not sure but I'm guessing anything in the past 5 years should be okay... correct me if I'm wrong..

I went as far back as high school, which was quite some time ago for me. Some of my ECs started in 2003 but continued to 2006 or 2007 so I included those since the end date fell within 5 years. I think it's fair to say you should only go as far back as high school, I probably wouldn't put anything before that, but provided that high school falls within the ~5 year range.

JUST SUBMITTED MY AP 😀 :soexcited::banana::biglove:

Such a sigh of relief... feels like the a mountain has been lifted off my shoulders 🙂 So excited for the next things to follow. Good luck everyone 🙂

And now it's time to go back to studying for tomorrow exam, finally I can focus on my work.
