UTK c/o 2013

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
LittleGato, where are you located? and congratulations!!

I got my acceptance letter today too!!!!! It was a regular business size envelope.

P.S. I'm located in Chicago.

Congrats!! I'm IS and haven't heard a peep . .. but this happened to me with the interview notification too. I would be interested in knowing the story behind why some people get emails and why some people get letters? (Specfically, I know of some individuals that heard about their interviews via email ....but I received my notification by regular mail . . who knows)😕 Well, now I know that they've actually been put in the mail . . .

Thanks for your congrats! I got my letter via Snail Mail and I am in Florida. Congratulations to you, fierymicky!! Hang in there boomerwally. Do you live far from Knoxville? Maybe they send the letters out in batches?🙄

:woot::zip:

I only live a couple of hours from Knoxville . . .hopefully, it will come tomorrow as I'm supposed to go out of town for the weekend. . . and I know, as ridiculous as this sounds, the whole weekend I'll be wondering about that d***n letter 🙂

I don't think my mailman is completely aware of the information he holds, each day I've been getting more and more neurotic . .in fact, today I met him in the yard so he didn't have to worry about making it to the mailbox . . .tomorrow, I might just meet him at the neighbor's house😀

If it snows, I'll have a really good reason for being outside waiting for him (under the guise of shoveling). Then again, it's April and supposed to be around 60 degrees tomorrow, so there goes that plan. 😛

Congrats to those who got early good news!

I know what you mean. I seriously tried to think of a way to get my letter directly from the post office so that I wouldn't have to wait on the mail man. If it weren't for work, I probably would have set up camp next to my mail box .

I'm in Florida and didn't get my letter today. This could be bad....

I'm pretty sure both acceptance and rejection letters go out at the same time, so any differences in the date of delivery are likely more due to mail routing.

Congrats to those who've received their acceptances! Fingers crossed for those who are still waiting.

I'm gonna be joining you at UTK! Got my letter today (Ohio), and for those of you worrying... I never received my interview letter (didn't know until they called me asking me to accept/decline the interview time) but got this letter just fine. Good luck to all of those still waiting!

ARGHH!!! The inconsistencies of the United States Postal Service. Oh well . . just another day in the life of a postal worker stalker . . .🙂

Congratulations to everyone!! Is TN one the last schools to notify people . . for some reason, it seems like it is

Hopefully, you'll get good new today! :xf: To me, it does feel like UF and TN were some of the last schools to conduct interviews and send out letters. Waiting just takes the starch out of you!

No Joke . . .I feel like I'm going to need at least a full 48 hours of sleep after of all of this (definitely more if I don't get in)

for those of you that have gotten acceptance letters.... are you graduating this year? and do you have all the prerequisites done? Or have you gone through more than one cycle?
I am anxiously awaiting my letter in the mail.....but I will still have to take the cellular biology course over the summer, which I have already enrolled in.
I didn't know if this would impact my application negatively or not.:scared:
Congrats to all of you!!!!

I'm already finished with my science pre-reqs and will be finished with an english pre-req (yes, English) at the end of this semester. . .so I don't have any personal info to add. However, one of my mentors graduated UT Vet in 2007 and she said that when she got her acceptance letter, it was on the contingency that she successfully re-take Biochem during the summer before matriculating (there was some issue with the original Biochem she had already completed . . .not enough hours or something like that). I recognize policies could have changed since . . .but just some hopeful commentary.

I received my acceptance letter today! I'm excited to join ya'll in Knoxville in August! 🙂

I had to take two classes over the summer before I could start school in '07. I was assured that the missing classes did not impact my application negatively. I really don't think things have changed for that.

Good luck to everyone still waiting.

yay! i got my acceptance letter last night and i am super excited!! 😀
i am completing two pre-reqs right now- cell bio and genetics, so i don't think that is an issue in regards to acceptances. good luck to those waiting! please be patient w/ those mailmen!

I got waitlisted, so feel free to start accepting other offers 🙂

Congrats to all of you!!!!

I graduated in 2008, so this would be my second cycle. My first round obviously didn't go so well....

Ok thanks for all the advice. I figured that if I was missing a course my acceptance would be contingent on my completion of the course, but thanks for the insight. I am away at college right now and not near my mailbox so I have even worse anxiety about the status of my acceptance. But I will keep my hopes up for now. 🙂

I also got waitlisted. I wish they would say where you are on the waitlist. Oh well, here's to more waiting!! yay!!

Oh, and of course CONGRATS!! to all that got accepted 🙂

For those of you on the waitlist, a position will be opening up. For distance reasons, (even though I was VERY impressed with UT and this is not related to how I think of the school at all - esp the exotics which REALLY impressed me!!!,) I am going to my IS school and will be writing a letter to UT to notify them this week so that they can open up the spot asap. Good luck to everyone!!!! :luck::xf::luck:

Got my in state acceptance today! All pre-reqs completed. Good luck to everyone else waiting!!! 🙂

Bless you! Now only if I knew where I was on the list....

Does anyone know if we call and ask where we are on the waitlist, will they tell us? I'm thinking it might be worth a shot. It would really help to put things in perspective knowing whether I'm #1 or #48109384939 🙂

Well, yes and no. The class of 2011 has a high percentage of students off the wait list. At least I think it does because my original class roster and the final class roster are different by several names. However, the class of 2012 has ZERO. So it is really hard to know how the list will move, or IF it will. But I don't think it would hurt to call and ask. I would expect to be told they can't tell you, but who knows.

Best wishes! Maybe you will get Stayinghopeful's spot. 🙂

Dean Brace actually addressed the wait list ranking in his orientation the day of my interview. He said that if you were wait listed, you could call him and while he wouldn't tell you your exact number, he would be able to give you an idea of "top half or bottom half." He didn't say how long the wait list usually is, though. GOOD LUCK!

I did call him the first year that I applied and was waitlisted and he will give you an idea of where you are on the list, just not an exact number.

I made the wait list... guess I will just sit back and wait! Really, do any of you know how many people go on the wait list? I guess they put April 15th in bold letters so that that we wont call before then! One more question, if an OOS declines, then will they pull the next OOS on the list or will they just pull the next person on the list (oos or is)? Congrats to those of you who got in!

When I talked to Dean Brace when I was on the wait list he told me that they try to pull the next OOS person so that they keep the numbers about the same but if it is too close to the start of school they may pull someone from the area instead. He said they didn't want to take someone from far away just before school started because they wouldn't have enough time to get properly moved and situated and it would just add too much stress to the beginning of school, which will be stressful enough all on its own.

waitlisted once again 🙁

*hugs* Sorry to hear that, I know how it feels, but try to keep your head up & not to get to discouraged yet. Two people I work with got in off wait lists this year (though at other schools), so there's still hope. :xf:For all those waitlisted or still waiting to hear!

Good news for those of you who are waitlisted- I'm about 99% sure that I will be giving up my OOS spot!

Hey everyone! Congrats to everybody who got in 🙂 I'm in Florida and found out a few days ago after UF said no... so, yay for out of state tuition... does anyone know if there's a way to get in-state tuition after a year or so? I'm hearing mixed answers.

Congrats on your acceptance ufvetchick! pretty sure that Dr. Brace said the only way was to marry someone from TN... otherwise it seems pretty impossible!

Marrying a resident is the only way they ever told us. They are very strict about it at TN.

Hey everybody! Just wanted to let you know there's a facebook group now for the c/o 2013. Search for the name : UTK VET MED C/O 2013 🙂

...anyone know how UTK does our financial aid? I accepted loan offers/picked a lender a month or two ago, and as I understand it, the lenders disperse money through the school...so is UT supposed to issue us a check or something before classes start so that we can pay our tuition?
And now that they've upped tuition officially for next year, will they adjust our loans? I guess I need to give the Financial Aid office a call, but they haven't been very helpful in the past...:d

Yes, they will adjust the amount of aid based on the new tuition. I asked Dean Thompson this question directly and he told me the adjustment would be made.

Once the check is disbursed, the tuition is taken out and any excess is then deposited in your account. In other words, they get theirs first.

Okay, that answers my questions. All these warnings we keep getting about how tuition is due in a month or we'll be dropped from classes has been making me nervous, considering I haven't heard anything about my loans since I signed the promissory note. Thanks!

You should be fine. But just to make sure, call the financial aid office and ask for the person in charge of veterinary students. Verify with her that she has all the needed documents. She should reassure you that your tuition with be paid.

I think her name is Helen Sellers. Does that sounds right?

Thanks everyone...I talked with Helen Sellers before when I was setting up my loans, so I'll just give her another call and make sure everything's good to go.
