Virginia-Maryland CVM c/o 2024

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
My stats are really low. I’m still in shock I was granted an interview.

My cGPA is crap. I put a lot of thought into my essays and I think they must value non-traditional experiences ... otherwise they for sure would not have picked me either!

OOS waitlist. Nontraditional grad too! My stats are fairly strong.....there must have been something unique about your application that caught their eye! Congrats!

It’s such a crapshoot!! Hopefully another school snatches you up! :biglove:

Thank you EngrSC! I know I will make it happen eventually and I will wait patiently until it does. The right program will come along 😉....so maybe this was meant to be. Congrats to everyone and good luck to all those that were granted an interview! I'm sure you will do well! Just remember, you were asked for a reason! :soexcited::clap:
😊

IS (Virginia) interview invite! I'm elated as I was wait-listed last year!
Same here! IS VA, interview waitlist last year, spend the summer going hardcore at beefing up the experience, and interview this year!

OOS interview waitlisted. Got the same last year.

IS interview offer on 11/21! First-time applicant and I'm so excited (and nervous!)! I wonder how many people get rejected after interviewing. What do they look for in the interviews? Haha

Which IS? I wasn’t able to find last years but a bit ago I tracked down and posted the stats for 2016 applicants in this thread. From memory: MD applicants 120 applied, 60 interviewed, 30 accepted.

My stats weren't low and my essays were good said admissions. Im trying to figure out where I messed up this time 🙁 I can't seem to get an interview anywhere and im losing hope. Hell I can't find a job with a master's degree either.

Did you ask for a file review?

No I completely redid them

Honestly it’s such a crapshoot. It’s impossible to know which schools will see something special in you and the applicant pool changes from year-to-year. You may be high up on the interview waitlist for VMCVM and you still have several schools to hear from. It only takes one yes!

Also, saw your post on the APVMA FB page and I know who you are now :whoa:

*Waves* Yes thats me haha.

Does anyone know when they will start pulling people off the waitlist?

It depends on if anybody declines/reschedules their interview. They said the latest they would tell us about an interview is Jan. 15th, if spots open.

Does anyone know the tuition cost for OOS students vs IS students?

Does anyone know if we are required to submit Fall grades? I am assuming since they are interviewing that we only submit if we are admitted, but I am having a hard time finding information to confirm.
Thank you!

From what I have read at this point they ONLY base the final admission decision on the interview. Apparently once you get to this point it's like starting with a clean slate. Anyone please correct me if this sounds wrong. In summary based on that information, I don't think they would want your grades from fall unless you got in.

Does anyone have a confirmation of how many stations there are, time at each station, and if we are allowed to write? I am surprised we didn't get an email with this stuff

You only need to submit grades if you are admitted.

Your admission at this point is based 100% on your interview performance. The admissions team will not look at your application again, so any change to your grades or gpa does not matter.

I believe we get this information at the pre-interview reception.

IS (Maryland) interview! Does anyone have any interview advice or ideas about what they may ask or what they’ve asked in the past?

Does anyone know if you can get IS tuition after your first year at VAMD if you’re OOS?

To answer my own question: out of 120 MD applicants they interview about half (60) for 30 spots. VA was 72/197 for 55 spots. OOS was 204/1126 for 42 spots. This was 2015-2016 so not super up to date.

When I went to their open house and tour in the summer they said they’d take approximately 50 VA, 30 MD, and 40 OOS.

Generally speaking, no you cannot. They will have you sign something that says you understand that you will be OOS all four years.

However, if you marry a state resident while you are here you can petition to change your status to IS. That is the only exception I know of.

Does anyone know how soon after the interviews accepted applicants are notified?

We got ours a month later. I interviewed 1/14 and we received decisions 2/13.

Wow! That’s a lot longer of a wait than for other schools! I’m glad I asked so I don’t panic I if I don’t get an answer a few days later.

Soooo... what are you guys wearing for your interviews / reception outfits? Hahaha I know it’s not really THAT important but just thinking ahead about what I might wear.

I'm going to have to go out and buy a female suit. I don't own any lol. I probably will wear it a few days in a row since I find it so uncomfortable haha

I believe we get this information at the pre-interview reception.

I'm trying to do mock interviews and I don't know if its 2 minutes or 1 minutes outside and 8 minutes inside like the traditional format... i guess less time wouldn't be a killer

Based on when I toured there, I believe it was 2 minutes outside, and basically as long as you needed once you walked into the room. But I imagine if it’s going long they will try to wrap it up.

The interview stations do have time limits, fyi.

The prompts are not designed to put you under a time crunch, so maybe your tour guide just meant you shouldn't worry about having enough time?

Everyone in your group has to rotate through every station with enough time before the next group of interviewees have their time slot, so they can't have people ending rooms at different times.

Every body in your group will read the prompt at the same time, enter the room at the same time, and exit the room at the same time. If you finish a prompt early you will stay in the room with your interviewer until time is called for that station. If you don't finish the prompt you will still have to exit the room when time is up.

There will be student ambassadors in the hallways directing time, making sure people are rotating through the stations correctly, etc.

Yes, I assume she meant that it was unlikely you would run out of time. Eight minutes is a lot longer than you think, so don’t stress too much!

Email sent out said decisions for interview or waitlist will be out by February 14th
