I'm applying this year! First time applying to VMRCVM.
 
My first time too! Must say I'm a little nervous about this filling out the app in one sitting thing, but I read on here that its pretty straightforward. nervous for nothing

Same. I'm probably going to do some of my other supplementals so that I'm used to answering (probably) similar questions.
 
Yes, I'm counting on the interview possibility! We have to complete the supp app in one sitting. From what I've read, its just more in depth info based on what we've already said in VMCAS... It just makes me nervous. what if there is a zombie apocalypse while i'm doing the app? hmmmm? screwed
 
Are there essays on the app, or is it just basic info?

I hate essays.

Haha, I'm definately nervous about filling it out in one setting too. What if I walked away from my computer for a second while filling out the app and my little brother decided to watch "How to Fix a Washing Machine" Youtube videos again?

To be honest, i don't really know. if so, i imagine they have to be short ones. this isn't the gre.

right?!? and how would you explain that to the school when you try to get a redo in a way that won't make them think you're a drunk?
 
I'm applying to VMRCVM for the 2nd time. 🙂 The supplemental really isn't all that bad!

No essay. Last year it did have one question that you had to answer that seemed like it needed to be an essay, but you only got like 150 words or something small like that. Otherwise, the supp app is short and very to the point. Easiest one I filled out, took like 15 minutes.

He's not kidding, I think I didn mine in ten minutes. They just ask you why VMRCVM and you only have about a sentence to write. The rest is really straightforward.

And I'm applying for C/O 2012 while I sit on the waitlist. Second times a charm right?
 
Hi Yall!! Good Luck!! I am starting in August!!! 2016 woot!! I applied 2 years in a row. Waitlisted the first time, but got in the second time!! I think being waitlisted and not getting in sucks the most. 😱:scared:😡:meanie:.............The supp application was simple. I barely wrote a paragraph both times I think. Make sure you have good grades and lots of Vet experience. The interview process was kinda intimidating...but just smile and be yourself. MMI means Multiple Mini Interviews.
 
Unfortunately Instate waitlists don't move a lot. People rarely give up their instate school spot. You probably saving 20k a year by going in state.

I was thinking I might do equine, and I'm spending my summer at an equine hospital, but now I don't think I want to do just horses.

Do you just want the variety or did something turn you off from all horses? I had a co-worker, who is now starting her 2nd year at VT, decide to go large animal, because she couldn't stand the idea of putting up with crazy horse owners every day. :laugh:

Are you thinking about maybe mixed or large/food animal? I've heard the food animal track is excellent. My vet graduated from VMRCVM and told me not to do the equine track, but to instead do food animal. He said it would give me a lot more flexibility in clinicals to go outside the vet school to atually get even more experience with horses. Definitely something I'll think about if/when the time comes....
 
I want more variety--I'm thinking probably mixed right now. I don't have much experience with food animal yet, so I can't be sure if I want to do that road.
 
I think I'm shooting for mixed track too! I want to do wildlife, but I really want to get into vet school this time so I'm keeping my options open 🙂

I'm wondering it it's worth it to apply as an OOS! 3.78 GPA; GRE scores 162 v, 157 q, 5.5 a; will have a masters degree; lots of research; mostly small animal exp but also some large & wildlife.

They bumped up the total number of OOS students admitted to 40! You can find their admission requirements at http://www.vetmed.vt.edu/acad/dvm/req.asp. Your stats sound spectacular by the way! VMRCVM really likes high numbers and research experience.

VMR has a really good breakdown on their site of their classes - how many applicants they get, how many qualified applicants they get (eg; appropriate GPA/GRE, pre-reqs, etc), and then a breakdown of GRE, GPA, where they're from, where they completed their classes, what they majored in (if applicable), etc.

I'm on my way out the door right now so I can't pull it up for ya right away, but once I get home tonight I'll see if I can dig it up.
 
Starting with the 2012 entering class, 120 students will be accepted to the professional program leading to the DVM degree. The residency of incoming students per class is:

  • 50 Virginia residents
  • 30 Maryland residents
  • 40 at-large applicants (up to 6 reserved for West Virginia residents)

  • A cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.8 on a 4.0 scale, or 3.3 for the last 45 semester hours providing courses taken during this period are junior or senior level. A competitive GPA is 3.5.
  • Applicants must have completed a minimum of 60 semester/90 quarter hours at an accredited college or university by the end of the spring term of the calendar year for which matriculation is sought.
 
They have def increased the OOS to 40 with 6 spots for West Virginia at least. So a much better chance for OOS applicants...plus the wait lists tend to move faster for OOS!!

haha, ummm... everywhere! I have 8 schools that I am for sure applying to, but I think I will end up with 11 at the end. I have been changing my mind daily! I'm a 2nd time applicant and IS at Illinois, but I did my undergrad there so I'm really hoping to branch out. You'll probably see me on a bunch of these threads. 🙄 My plan is to dominate the crap out of this application cycle. From your stats, I'm sure you will too!

Thats a lot of money!! :wow: I applied to 7 last year, and it was around $700 (11 will be around $1000 unless they have changed the costs now) plus like $50 to $75 per supplemental application plus whatever your school charges you to mail transcripts. Be sure to check the school stats for acceptance...I made the mistake of applying to Georgia because I missed that they only let in 2 to 5 OOS students at large.

Yeah, I know! This is my second time around so I definitely know how much this is going to cost. My interview alone at KSU was $500 after all the traveling. I made similar mistakes last cycle like applying to Michigan and Wisconsin with my (at the time) 3.42 GPA. This time, I'm doing it much smarter. My goal is to get to around 10, including Edinburgh which doesn't have a supplemental. However, I think that casting a wide net is the best option for me!

Don't worry, I have checked all the stats for the schools I'm applying to and keeping it somewhat realistic! Thanks for the advice though 🙂 Last cycle I never really even thought about school statistics. Now I spend more time researching schools than I would like to admit!

Wow, class size has really grown!

We were 50/30/10 when I went there.
 
How long after you submitted your supplemental application fee did it take for you to receive the e-mail regarding your guest account? If I remember correctly, it didn't take long at all to receive the e-mail last year. I still haven't received mine, and it's been almost a week.

I guess I'll have to call them tomorrow then. I received the payment confirmation e-mail, so I know my payment went through.
 
Hi- I had a question about Virginia-Maryland's policy of requesting a letter from a student's graduate program stating that sufficient arrangements will have been made for completion of degree.
Is anyone familiar with this procedure? I basically just wrote up a note and plan to have my adviser sign off on it. I'm trying to decide whether it is something that is due Oct 2 with the rest of the application, or if it can wait. If so I guess I'll have to overnight it on Oct 1!

So far the only schools I am applying to that directly ask for this are Missouri and Virginia... the deadline was not made especially clear on the 'deadline list', so it's the one thing I failed to do.

Any experience with this? I emailed the office but I figure I won't get an answer til Monday.

In case anyone had supplemental problems and hasn't seen this:

VMRCVM deadline for the supplemental application has been extended to October 3 at midnight. There was a system error that closed the system at midnight on October 1. The system is now up and running. We are terribly sorry for any inconvenience or stress this may have caused you. Please call (540) 231-4699 if you have any questions.

The VMCAS due date slipped right by me. 😉 I meant to come on here and wish y'all luck yesterday, but alas.

Anyone from c/o 2014-2016 care to share any experiences, tips, etc. with the MMI interview? I applied to VM and UCD, but the latter just adopted the format this year.

First off. Attempt to remain calm. Haha tough I know, but you have a loooonnngggg time of waiting in front of ya! Second, (slighty hyprocritical) get excited! You're awesome! You made it this far. You're APPLYING TO VET SCHOOL!

Don't even stress about the interview for awhile. We it gets closer I'm sure you'll get lots of awesome advice. In the end. Just remain calm and be yourself. I found it to be kinda fun (weird right?) If you're really concerned about the format. Google it. There are some good examples of MMI interviews online.

Also, don't stress over the supplemental. It's extremely straightforward. Took me like 10 mins last year.

Goodluck friends! Can't wait to meet you next year 🙂
