Waiting for UCLA

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yeah, it seems like nobody has gotten acceptances since March. If the class has been full since March 29th, it kinda f@$#! that the monotone guy would lead us on telling us that the class hasn't been filled yet...oh well, i guess that's the game the adcoms play

Full as in they have OVER accepted already? Or have they just accepted as many people as spots? Are you going for sure? Were most students going for sure or were they still deciding? I guess those of us who interview in May dont get a second visit :) [/QB]••••At the second look weekend, I would say there were about 50-60 students. Out of those a lot seemed sure they were coming, but then a handful were deciding between UCLA and other top schools (UCSF, Stanford, Harvard). You should also consider the fact that a lot of students who were accpeted did not come to the second look weekend. This might mean that some of them are no longer interested in UCLA!
I'm pretty sure that I will attend UCLA. And as for interviewing in May, I think if the adcom likes you, you'll get in. I also don't know if the class is over filled.

Good luck to everyone still waiting and hopefully I'll see most of you in August.

•My sentiment's similar to many of you here... I feel very doubtful I will get in off the waitlist... :( I haven't seen any acceptees turning down offers from well-reputed, low-cost (on yeah now "hella rich")UCLA, at least not on SDN.•••••I can think of two SDNers off my head that are turning UCLA down. UCLA2000 mentioned he will turn down UCLA for Penn and jessica mentioned she will turn down UCLA for UCSF. UCLA is up there, but when it comes down to it, they accept the same students that higher ranked and more prestigeous schools accept. UCLA is a great school, but how many have the guts to turn down schools like Harvard, Penn, UCSF and Hopkins for UCLA?

I doubt the recent $200 million dollar gift will serve any great factor in many's decisions, unless UCLA immediately starts dishing out scholarships with the recent donation.

I just withdrew an acceptance from UCLA last week (after attending another 2nd look weekend). I would imagine there are a lot of people in a similar situation who will soon be withdrawing acceptances. Don't worry, that waitlist will start moving soon!

woot la9s!!! thanks a bunch, and good luck wherever you're headed.

I just noticed that Incendiary withdrew his offer from UCLA too. Yay!!

more hope for us :) , hey patient, where are you headed if you don't get l.a.

I know two friends who have gotten into Harvard and are attending UCLA next year, and plenty of people turn down UCSF for UCLA. I think that UCSF is the biggest competition for UCLA and that's because they are both great schools and dirt cheap.

nice, patiently. wouldn't trade the uc's for anything :)
hopefully, we'll both be the first class of geffen-ites! btw, have you sent in an update letter yet? i already sent in a letter of intent before i got the waitlist... and i sent in the waitlist acceptance letter. i was thinking of waiting a bit on the update letter as not to bombard them with mail all at the same time

Here's some interesting info: I talked with my boss today, who as a faculty member at UCLA med school (aka Geffen Med....LOL) and he said that any changes brought about by the endowment will not really come into effect until way past 2006. The main change we would get to see would be the switch over to the new hospital (which really has nothing to do with the endowment)--supposedly it's still on schedule!

Any news? Bumping this baby up... Have any of you who appealed to school heard anything yet? Good luck.

can't believe I'm the only person keep posting in this thread today. I guess all the Geffeners are out partying already :D and it's not even 5pm PST yet. <img border="0" alt="[Wowie]" title="" src="graemlins/wowie.gif" />

Hey Matthew,
check your PM.

I will post (vent):

IT'S MAY 10 AND MY FINAL LETTER STILL HASN'T BEEN SENT!!!! :p

I second that VENT CaliBoy!!
My letter still hasn't been sent. I guess we won't hear anything until after may 15th. I just wish I knew someone who was inside UCLA and who could give me the dirt on this process because all of this guessing and waiting is driving me nuts.

CaliBoy, didn't you say that you were told that our letters would be sent out this week? Or was it within a week? I guess within a week since May 15th is FIVE days away. I get nervous just thinking about logging on and seeing that my status changed.

Keep the updates coming guys!! Thanks.

could some nice person please post a link to the status check?

thanks

Zealous: I called last friday and she said the letter would be mailed within a week. Well, obviously that wasn't true, since nothing was mailed today. At this point, I really doubt that they are going to get back to us by the May 15 deadline.

Dr. Momo: Here's a link to the status check:
<a href="https://www.medstudent.ucla.edu/applications/appstat/appforms/status.htm" target="_blank">https://www.medstudent.ucla.edu/applications/appstat/appforms/status.htm</a>

My status changed to "final decision letter sent, 5-7". The letter was in my mail box today, "it is w/ regret that I must inform you that we are unable to take further action on your application...." blah, blah, blah. (small envelope) So they are apparently sending out rejections post-interview.
good luck to those still waiting!!!

my status page changed on 5/10-final decision: "letter sent." got my acceptance letter yesterday. i'll be there next year. good luck to everyone.

I'll see you in August.

WOW, CONGRATS!!!!!! You're the man/woman!!!   It's absolutely amazing for anyone to get a waitlist-bypassed acceptance this late in cycle.
<img border="0" alt="[Wowie]" title="" src="graemlins/wowie.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[Wowie]" title="" src="graemlins/wowie.gif" />

Now, *ahem* it's time for me to turn green with envy. <img border="0" alt="[Pity]" title="" src="graemlins/pity.gif" />

Just to let you guys know who are waiting. I interviewed Feb 25 and got an acceptance today. It was dated May 7 so I guess they are making decisions pretty quick now.

For those of you who don't already know, I interviewed a few days after Milhouse V. and my status still hasn't changed. It looks like they're actually starting to give us patiently waiting people some final word. Hopefully I'll hear this week. Good luck to all those still waiting/waitlisted.

I wonder if the diplomas will say David Geffen School of Medicine from now on? weird!! :D

Hey guys! Been away for a few days. Just wanted to say congrats to the two that got in! (And to ask, any new news on the waitlist front?) :)

For those of us who have had no final decision letter sent yet .... (I think it's just me and zealous!!)

Monotone Boy says we can call the admissions office on Wednesday 5/15, and *hopefully* the commmittee will have come back with the decisions on our applications.

Scary!

thanks caliboy, i interviewed in mid March and still nothing, this is killing me!

hopefully I can change my avatar (which by the way is registered in the avatar patent thread in the lounge! so don't even think about it! hehehe) from this one to a UCLA one :)

holy crap, you have the UCSD logo for your avatar. I want, I want !!!!!

too late!!!! mwahahhahaha :D

I actually interviewed on April 25 and i recieved an acceptance letter dated May 7. So for those of you thinking your interviewing for the waitlist, your not.

Hey, does anyone know when UCLA is sending out their next batch of letters?

So, I called and they said by the end of this week or next week... anyone hear anything else?

Is anyone waiting for an appeal from UCLA???

I still haven't heard jack crap! They told me 3 months ago it would be in a WEEK!

scoob- I appealed in Feb and interviewed a couple of weeks ago. I don't know how they're working the appeals, but I heard of someone who is interviewing this week. Have you contacted them again? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" />

Does anyone want to try calling in the next 40 minutes to find out what the dilleo is?

She said that they are interviewing until the end of May and that there still a possibility that the committee may grant interviews based on appeals. I, myself, highly doubt this, but that is what she said.

You got 30 minutes :)

You can still call today!

and this thread breaks the 300-post mark. wee

The Geffen school rules!!! Of course it will rule even better if I get to become one of its princesses. :D :D

I just called UCLA to check on my status and they said that Deanna who handles apps (my app?) said that correspondence will be going out within the next couple of days. She did't tell me if it was good or bad, no waiver in her tone of voice at all but it seemed like when she pulled my app up on the computer there must have been a change in my final decision because she put me on hold and then came back to tell me what Deanna had said. Judging from what other people have said about other schools, they usually tell you over the phone if you were accepted if you happen to call in. So....I guess it doesn't look good. Has anyone else been able to get any final decision info out of them over the phone??

OMG guess what I found out just now? No no it's not about me getting off the waitlist..I wish.

Anyway, the school has placed only about 100 people on the waitlist. I totally thought the number would be closer to 200+ since so many of us on this website have been waitlisted.

For those of you who're planning on sending out updates next month, SEND the letters out BEFORE the end of THIS MONTH. The committee will get together and review all of the waitlistees' files at the end of this month. I think it will become very difficult to get off the waitlist if not seen favorablely after this review.
