Waitlist movement c/o 2020

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Does any one know if you are offered a waitlist position can you defer for a year at Iowa or Minnesota? I would like to complete my masters, but if i get off a waitlist and cannot defer then I will drop out of my masters and go. No sense reapplying if I get in. Is this possible?
Call admissions. I have no idea, but I bet they do.

I just got a call from UGA!! Going to go down and visit before I make my final decision (already put a deposit on a different school) but so excited!

wait, wait...they called off the alternate list? so its moving? I'm an alternate at uga as well. have they ranked the list? I need details. Are you OOS?

Yes! I just got called out of the blue! He didn't tell me my number but yes I am OOS!

Congrats! you're so lucky. I'm IS so we are on different lists 🙁 I know the IS list only moved like two spots last year and I'm almost certain I'm not spot 1 or 2. I'm freaking out ugh

does anyone know if they will notify alternates when all seats are filled?

I would like to know that as well. I know some schools send out an email saying their class is full but the kicker there is you can still get called off the list after the class is "full" because people drop for unforeseen circumstances

Yes, schools let you know if the class becomes full. At that point, you could get off the list, but it isn't very likely. In that situation, there are only a very small few that get called.

Hats what I was thinking as well. But I haven't gotten any unsolicited emails from KSU since I found out I was an alternate so I was unsure.

Agreed. IS waitlists don't move as much. At all. There is 1 seat left for LSU and everyone I've talked to has pretty much said that I may get called off over the summer if someone drops, but 1) that's rare and 2) I start at an OOS in June. Looks like I'm officially MSU 2020

U of I said their IS waitlist still ends up moving every year. Not nearly as much as OOS, but they do call a decent amount of people

Do you have stats on how many seats on average OOS moves per year?
I feel like I remember them saying 20-30, but can't remember for sure if that was IS or OOS. It would make more sense as an OOS statistic, but I feel like I'd be listening more to IS stats since I am in-state, so I'm not sure. But that means 20+ for out-of-state calls at least.

Well the good news for both of you is depending on certain waitlist movements, I will be giving up my IS Illinois seat and Ironvet I PROMISE OOS Illinois will move!

Just hopefully far enough to reach me! You will be the first one I tell 🙂

I have a question guys I'm wait listed for Oregon and for western but I got into Ross
do you guys think it is worth it waiting it out or would it better to place down the 1000 deposit to ross as a safe

Is the deadline for Ross April 15th? If not and the two schools are cheaper than Ross, it's worth it to wait until it's time to confirm Ross. The $1000 deposit will be a drop in the bucket compared to the tuiton differences between a cheaper and more expensive school. Of course, if it's time, then yes, confirm Ross but continue to watch the waitlist.

yeah the deadline is april 15th
thank you so much
it's just hard because Ross is so expensive and getting everything arranged hoping for the best for either Oregon or Western

Just had a friend get pulled from the waitlist at LMU. So it's moving!

A DVM is a DVM. I would take what is offered for sure. Congratulations!!! 🙂

I think taking a first year's IS seat would still be cheaper for me in the long run lol

Hahahaha if it makes you feel any better, if I were OOS at MSU, I'd be paying more than your OOS at Illinois 😛 buuuuttt I'm not going to MSU!

I am waitlisted at Oregon and got into SGU. I put off my acceptance to SGU for a year and hoping I get into OSU this year! If not I'm re applying as a resident

SGU let you defer for a year? I'd like to do the same, but wasn't sure how to approach or if they would let me.

My application is going to be reviewed in the 2017 cycle and I don't have to submit anything else or reapply. But I think if I got in this year I have a really good shot of getting in again next year. I really feel like if I had one more shot applying I would get in and be able to go to the school that I really want to go to! Plus I have some family stuff going on and I don't want to be that far away if anything happens. So I hope I get into Oregon this year if not I'm waiting and reapply next year to OSU, SGU and some schools that I didn't apply to this year. I just emailed the lady that I've been talking to and she was really nice about it

I'm in this same situation except with KSU and Western. I have decided to not accept my Ross spot due to the amount of student loan debt I would have once I am finished. I went to a private school for undergrad and currently finishing up my masters. I really didn't end up with a ton of debt from undergrad, (tuition was 48k a year and after 4.5 years I only ended up with 45K due to my scholarships) but my masters is KILLING me with me debt right now lol So I'm playing to waiting game....

Apparently Dr. Elmore really meant it when he said I was high up on the wait list! He called me at 11:30 EST this morning to offer me a spot at KSU!!

you can put it off for a year?

They just review your application in the next application cycle and you don't have to reapply or pay fees but you risk not getting in again. It's risky but I did it!

I was waitlisted at western last cycle and got accepted off the waitlist in JULY....ssooo you could still be waiting a while, so I'd do whatever you have to do to ensure you have a spot

On another note, I just got a call from UGA vet school....BUT it was for a job I applied for with the large animal department. I almost flipped my #$%&
