Hi, this is my first post here. I am a senior majoring in economics. I am a bit anxious about my chances. Here are my stats.

a. Schools you are applying to: UMD, Shenadoah, LECOM Erie, St. John Fisher, Appalachian, Howard
b. Overall GPA: 3.75
c. Math/Science GPA: 3.65 [Bio GPA: near 3.9, General Chemistry I -A, General Chemistry II and Orgo I & II - B, Physics GPA: 3.5, Math (STAT w/ application in Biology & Calc I) GPA: 4.0]
d. GPA in last one or two school years: About 3.75 (Always had GPA between 3.5-3.87)
e. Complete PCAT scores (or just composite):

  • Verbal 437 92%
  • Biology 440 94%
  • Reading 397 40% (English isn't my first language)
  • Quantitative 420 74% (Not true reflection because I always had A in math since middle school)
  • Chemistry 434 88%
  • Composite 426 87%
  • Writing: 3.5/3.5
f. Pharmacy experience obtained: worked 1 year at retail
g. Date of application submission (PharmCAS/primary and secondary): October 2nd

Additionally, the following will help us gauge your chances but are more optional:
h. Number of LORs and source of LORs: strong LOR from Bio faculty advisor (I was bio major at first), 1 from microbiology professor (the professor said in his 30 years of his teaching years, my groups independent project was the best), pharmacist (not sure but probably an average LOR), strong LOR from Humanities professor
i. Non-pharmacy work and/or volunteer experience: I am afraid this is where I lack, I worked as Assistant manager of a restaurant throughout my first three years in college, tutored math to high school students for a year, and participated in 2 extracurricular activities that are not pharmacy related over 2 semesters
j. Self-perception of interview skills: great if the interviewer is friendly, otherwise average
k. Overall impression of personal statement quality: slightly above average

Hello! Another first time poster here, and I am going back and forth trying to decide if I should apply this year or just wait so any advise would be appreciated.

A. I am only planning to apply to Regis if I apply at all this year

B. Overall GPA 3.25

C. Math/Science GPA: ~3.0 ish maybe slightly higher

D. GPA last few semesters: around 3.4

E. PCAT composite: 64, probably will retake this in Jan

F. Pharmacy experience: certified technician, float at retail chain (with a long term care pharmacy as well) with 4 years total tech experience

G. Date of PharmCAS app: still deciding if I am going to, but hope to have it done by early December if not sooner

H. Number of LOR: Trying to decide, want 1 (if not both) of the co owners of the pharmacy I work for, one of them is on the admissions board for Regis so I think that would help a lot; then at least 1 of the pharmacy managers I work with, ~9 to choose from that know me and like me; then I am wanting one from a professor but I have a lot of large classes so i am unsure if I will get a good LOR from any of them

I. Non-pharmacy work/volunteer: I worked at the Colorado State University Vet hospital in Medical Records for 3 years, but no real volunteer work to speak of...

J. Self-perception of Interview skills: I feel fairly confident, I can be a little shy but I feel sure enough of my commitment to the field that my interview will be fine

K. Overall impression of personal statement quality: I feel pretty good about this, I plan to spend time at the university writing lab for assistance and generally do well on all papers I have written at the university, I also have some interesting life experiences to help give perspective.

Thank you so much for any input you can offer! I know that my GPA and PCAT aren't very hot but since I am considering applying to a school with only candidate status I am wondering what you all think my chances are.

Are you sure that a competitive PCAT score for TSU is 50% ? If i were you, I would go back and ask again.

Do schools care more about individual scores or composite score?

Do schools care more about individual scores or composite score?

-Sullivan, East Tenn, Midway, Samford
b. Overall GPA
-3.33
c. Math/Science GPA
-Math = 2.9(Six week long Calc II course ruined my 3.3)
-Science = 3.7
d. GPA in last one or two school years
-3.7
e. Complete PCAT scores (or just composite)
-51st percentile last year....retaking Oct. 16
f. Pharmacy experience obtained
-Two and 1/2 years at Walgreens...Certified
g. Date of application submission (PharmCAS/primary and secondary)
-Sept. 20
h. Number of LORs and source of LORs
-Chem and Bio professors plus two pharmacist
i. Non-pharmacy work and/or volunteer experience
-zero
j. Self-perception of interview skills
-I plan on getting a pinstriped suit and being charming.
k. Overall impression of personal statement quality
-I spent one month or so on my personal statement. I'm pretty sure it was memorable in a good way.

So I just submitted my PharmCas yesterday (way later in the application cycle than I was hoping to submit it) and now I'm curious if others feel the schools I chose are reasonable. I'm freaking out a little now that it's out there waiting to be processed.

So first off, I have a degree in biochemistry and molecular biology (just graduated in May). I'm currently finishing up a few pre-req's at the university of iowa.

a. Schools you are applying to
U of Iowa (my first choice by far because it's in state), U of Wisconsin, U of Minnesota, Creighton

b. Overall GPA - 3.85
c. Math/Science GPA - 3.6
d. GPA in last one or two school years - 3.8
e. Complete PCAT scores (or just composite)
Verbal - 95 percentile
Bio - 71
Reading comp- 86
Quantitative - 87
Chem - 85
Composite - 91

f. Pharmacy experience obtained
This is the area I'm most concerned about. I have only worked 3 months in a retail pharmacy. I am currently working as a lab assistant for a company that does clinical trials for companies that are developing new antibiotics but don't know if this is related close enough to pharmacy to be worth anything in the application process. I also do not have any work experience in a hospital setting.
g. Date of application submission (PharmCAS/primary and secondary)
Oct 6th

Additionally, the following will help us gauge your chances but are more optional:
h. Number of LORs and source of LORs
3 letters, 2 science professors, and one employer (from my job as a TA in the chemistry department the 4 years I was getting my undergrad degree)

i. Non-pharmacy work and/or volunteer experience - I have plenty of volunteer experience that isnt pharmacy related, mainly through my local church

j. Self-perception of interview skills - about average
k. Overall impression of personal statement quality - This is difficult to say, I feel my writing skills aren't up to par with the rest of my abilities. However, I've had it read and edited by many people so I think it turned out alright. So I'd say it's probably about average.

I'm mainly concerned because I have applied so late compared to what I wanted, my personal statement may not be the best and my lack of work/volunteer experience in a pharmacy/hospital setting. I feel my numbers are good, but is it really enough?

Several, but my top choices are UOP, Midwestern AZ and CHI, Touro CA and NY, Belmont, Howard and Western
b. Overall GPA

g. Date of application submission (PharmCAS/primary and secondary)

Additionally, the following will help us gauge your chances but are more optional:
h. Number of LORs and source of LORs
3 from professors, 1 of which is my PI, and 1 from a pharmacist
i. Non-pharmacy work and/or volunteer experience
Mostly religious volunteer experience. I have tutored and participated in clubs on campus
j. Self-perception of interview skills
Not really sure, I'm going to be cautious and say mediocre
k. Overall impression of personal statement quality
Pretty well written, I had it edited a few times and proofread as well

I forgot to add, I have received 2 interviews so far :)

i currently have a 3.178 gpa, im am getting a BS. in biology in may 2011, i have 2 failed classes orgo chem2 and human physiology and i retook both classes and made a c in both classes.

what are my chances for admission? I am taking my PCAT on oct. 16th. and i am planning on finishing my pharmcas application before nov. 1

i have volunteered in a pharmacy for 2 years

Can someone please provide me with suggestions on how to improve my chances. and also can you please provide me with ur stats. and where you got accepted to i have some idea on where i stand. thanks

come back when you have your PCAT score. you have ~5 days left to study so i recommend you worry about that before thinking about "chances"

Yeah you def need to focus on the PCAT and let us know how you do. It concerns me that you failed 3 classes and got a C with a retake. In addiiton it's getting later in the application cycle so I'm not sure if you should go for it this cycle. How does your 3.2 gpa break down? nonscience gpa? science? Also which schools do you have in mind?

WAMC?!?!?

A. Schools you are applying to:
University of Texas :horns:(First Choice), Southwestern Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Midwestern, Nova Southeastern, Campbell University

B. Overall GPA:
3.074

C. Math/Science GPA:

F. Pharmacy experience obtained:
I have worked in the pharmacy since I was 16 (now 25), been certified since 18. I have worked with CVS through all 9 years and for the last 3 years I have been doing 30+ hrs/wk.

G. Date of application submission (PharmCAS/primary and secondary):
None yet, but will be working on completing this over the next few weeks.

H. Number of LORs and source of LORs:
1. Pharmacist (PIC) - previous pharmacy manager for 2 years. Also is a big donor and Alumni for UT and used to teach at their SOP.
2. Pharmacist (PIC) - current pharmacy manager
3. Pharmacist (District Pharmacy Supervisor) - supervisor for 5+ years
4. Professor -Chemistry Instructor

I. Non-pharmacy work and/or volunteer experience:
Very little since I have been working FT for so long, however I do have some community service hours (probably around 40 hrs).

J. Self-perception of interview skills:
Very confident in this area. I feel if I can get to the interview stage I will be pretty confident in my chances of being accepted. This is mainly due to my vast knowledge of the pharmacy career and experience in the pharmacy along with my enthusiasm for becoming a pharmacist.

K. Overall impression of personal statement quality:
Also confident about this.

I have some courses that I have repeated to get a better grade in, and I was wondering how this factors into the GPA.
Also, I have tons of electives that are probably not even transferable (real estate courses) and I was wondering how these would count.
Do they just take whatever the school gives as the GPA or do they calculate it themselves?
I'm looking forward to some feedback!!!

Thanks again!! :help:

Other: I'm a 2nd year technician member of the APhA and 1st year technician member of the Minnesota PhA.

I failed an entire semester due to medical reasons in 2006 (no math/science courses); without these grades factored in, my overall GPA is more like 3.8. I've also been to 3 different universities (moved several due to family circumstances) and a community college (financial reasons). I'm concerned about how my school-hopping will look.

I received my B.S. in Psychology in May 09 with an "official" GPA of 3.8, but this does NOT include my failed transfer credits.

a. Schools you are applying to
- UMaryland, UWisconsin-Madison, Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, and may be one more after more researching.

b. Overall GPA - 4.00 (I know, this is really what I'm hoping would get me in right now)

c. Math/Science GPA - 4.00 (Never took math in college because I got a 5 on Calc I AP)

e. Complete PCAT scores (or just composite)
- Took October one, waiting for results. I did ok on all the sections but chem and math because I ran out of time, but seems like that was the case for most of the people too. I'm neither confident nor devastated about how I did.

f. Pharmacy experience obtained
- I have been volunteering at the university's health center pharmacy for two semesters now
- Got Pharmacy Technician Certificate in July 2010

g. Date of application submission (PharmCAS/primary and secondary)
- Have not submitted it yet

h. Number of LORs and source of LORs
- 1 from the health center pharmacist; 1 from physics professor; and 1 very strong one from accounting professor (I am General Business Major)

i. Non-pharmacy work and/or volunteer experience
- Worked for Howard County Public School System for two summers, and volunteered there for 3 years in high school (Should I include high school experiences on my application too??? I'm a sophomore at UMD)

j. Self-perception of interview skills
- I admit I'm not the greatest speaker but I do try to make eye contacts and in general give good and unique answers.

k. Overall impression of personal statement quality
- It doesn't "wow" me but I think it definitely speaks a lot about myself and is different from other people's because I explained my past interests and experiences in fashion.

a. Schools you are applying to
University of Texas at Austin and University of Houston. I have an undergrad degree from UT Austin.
b. Overall GPA - 3.9+
c. Math/Science GPA ~3.9
d. GPA in last one or two school years - ~3.9 including a 4.0 in grad courses
e. Complete PCAT scores (or just composite) - Just took the October PCAT. Do not feel confident on the chemistry and QA sections because of time. Going to guess 60 composite (mainly because I'm expecting an extremely poor QA score) with decent VA, RC, biology, and writing scores.
f. Pharmacy experience obtained- 6+ years. Did a summer internship at a pharmaceutical company and consulting work for various hospitals/pharmacies.
g. Date of application submission (PharmCAS/primary and secondary)
Neither school uses PharmCAS and from my understanding do not do rolling admissions.
h. Number of LORs and source of LORs
3 - Clinical Pharmacist, another Pharmacist/former manager, and one from an executive in the health system I work for who was also my professor in grad school. All co-workers of mine and will write very strong LORs.
i. Non-pharmacy work and/or volunteer experience - Officer in the Pre-Pharmacy club, member of APhA-ASP. Many volunteer experiences from the past but I do not know how many years back I should include on my applications.
j. Self-perception of interview skills - Excellent. I hope the admission committee will overlook my possibly terrible PCAT score!
k. Overall impression of personal statement quality: I have not started yet but I will get many people to proofread it. Generally I am a strong writer plus I have good reasons for changing careers.

Northwestern? Do you mean Northeastern?
I believe you're stats are good enough to at least get you to the interview. If you're submitting this year I'd urge you to submit to Midwestern since they're a rolling admissions school.

Well here are my stats :)
Schools- Texas Southern, U of H, Xavier,
O GPA- 3.1
S GPA- 3.0
PCAT- 63% ( Not retaking cuz a dean at TSU said a competive score is 50%)
Pharmacy Shadowing hours- 60
Volunteer hours- 70
letters- pharmacist alumni of Texas southern:), organic professor, pre- cal professor
Clubs - Health science club
Great interview Skills
Standout grades- "A" in Organic 1 first time, "B" in Organic 2 first time, both taken during summer, upward trend in all my grades
All apps will be complete by 10-15-2010 .......
Please let me know any info about my chances.. thanks guys

50% is definitely not competitive no matter where you're applying/

50% is definitely not competitive no matter where you're applying/

I agree. TSU does have a lower average PCAT score (not sure the exact number), but 50% still is not a competitive score anywhere.

f. Pharmacy experience obtained: Some shadowing, a couple of interviews with faculty.
g. Date of application submission (PharmCAS/primary and secondary): 10/5/10

Additionally, the following will help us gauge your chances but are more optional:
h. Number of LORs and source of LORs: 3 LORS: 1 pharmacy faculty from OSU, 1 Ochem professor, and my boss (a nobel prize winning professor) All should be strong to strong-ish. Good relationships with all
i. Non-pharmacy work and/or volunteer experience: 350+ hours hospital volunteering, 20 hr/week job that I have had since freshman year, various volunteering stuff like helping at humane societies and habitat for humanity projects.
j. Self-perception of interview skills: I am very comfortable speaking about myself.
k. Overall impression of personal statement quality: I rewrote it about 5 times, and then had several people look at it. Edited with the help of an English major and a P1 student.

I am going to be graduating with a BS in pharmaceutical sciences with honors and a minor in microbiology from OSU this Spring. I have at least 1 more shadowing opportunity set up; I did not pursue a tech job because my current job offers 100% flexibility and amazing pay, and I am a self-supporting student and could not take the pay cut or hour restrictions. I'm involved with several clubs on campus, including pre-pharmacy and a community outreach program that helps inner city kids learn about science. I also did an independent study project within the school of pharmacy last summer on the history of Civil War pharmacy.

I am applying to NOVA right now! your stats are OK for NOVA! try to increase your science GPA a little bit (if you are going to a community college) .
NOVA requires 3 letters of recommendation and they really like to see that you have pharmacy experience so it would be nice if you started volunteering at a hospital or retail pharmacy.
Last but not least, study for the PCAT! Dr. Collins has a really helpful study guide!

DON'T PANIC, IT WILL ALL BE ALRIGHT! :luck:

You seem to everything in order except the grades. Don't ever let work affect your grades. I had to work alot too, but would always make sure my grades werent affected. If they were I would cut back and work 2,3,4 jobs over summers or breaks to make up for it. I looked at it like " yeah working 12-14 hour days sucks, but once the day was over I could move on from it, but those grades on my transcript would not be so easily forgotten. Assuming you did get an 80 on your PCAT retake I would think everything was great except the cum gpa. Because it's closer to 3 I'm hoping you have mostly Bs and not many Cs. But hey at leasts it's over 3.0.

I know I need mock interviews....I am sure of my determination and know I want to be a pharmacist for the right reasons, but I am shy.
k. Overall impression of personal statement quality
Did the best I could. I am proud of them, but we will see. I wrote new essays for each school so that they seemed genuine to each prompt.

Nightshade, seems like you'll get in where ever you want and it's waaaaaaY better to be shy than loud and obnoxious, so your good. And I love the Uncharted as well.

nightshade, it definitely sounds like you have a strong application. What are you doing to get over being shy? :)

I have only submitted one application fully (pacific) and will have Minnesota in by the weekend (rolling admissions), but I am planning on getting a suit this weekend and working with my pre-pharmacy club and career center at UW to get some mock interviews. Does this seem good? Do you have any recommendations to help prepare. I have been reading the newspaper "The Nations' Health" and US News and World Report to try and stay up to date, but in all honesty I am haven't had a good night's sleep due to anxiety about school applications. It is very stressful. I mean we have all been working towards this one interview for so long and now that's it's potential in our grasp, it is very unnerving.

Uncharted is where it's at lol. This game and Demon's Souls, as well as MGS4, are my favorite this generation. Thanks for the confidence boost too. I am just really worried about getting in.

I have to be honest, I think reading SDN was one of the best prep tools. Reading through the interview threads in this area and in the pre-med area will give you a pretty good idea of what kind of questions to anticipate. Reading the news definitely can't hurt.

You should also definitely be intimately familiar with the programs you're applying to. I was asked at least a question or two along those lines ("Why this program, what do you like best about it?").

I will definately do that!! I don't think I will have an interview before December so it will give me plenty of time to prepare :). Thank you for you help!
