General Admissions & OTCAS Who have you heard back from? 2020-2021 Cycle

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hi everyone! I have been accepted to several MOT and OTD programs and have narrowed it down to Temple University's MOT program and Quinnipiac's OTD program. I'm having a really hard time deciding between these programs. I am still torn between masters vs doctorate because I'm not 100% sure how much I enjoy doing/want to be involved in research and a whole project/capstone about it - I feel that I will prefer more clinical experience over research... At the moment, I definitely want to practice for several years as a clinician and then I would say my "dream job" is something like a Director of Rehabilitation Services either in a hospital or for a company. If anyone has any advice, thoughts, or anything about either school/program or MOT vs OTD, I would love any feedback or words of wisdom!!

I just got into Walsh University MOT program, haven't even applied to any other schools yet.

Hi there! For me, MOT over OTD was a no brainer for a few reasons: I have no interest in teaching or research and there really isn’t a salary difference between the 2, it’s based on experience, region etc. So why would I spend an extra year of my time and tons more $$ you know? My aunt who has been an OT for 30+ years w/ “just” a BA agreed w/ me too based on my goals (pediatrics OT).

So I would say to really think hard about if you want to do teaching and/or research sometime in your career. If there is a strong possibility, then go the OTD route.

Hi!! So I was in the same position and denied my seat for temple actually! I chose the OTD route because the profession will most likely move that way anyway in the future. Although the mandate to make entry-level doctorates has been postponed in my eyes if it has the potential to move that way in the future I'd rather have it now. As of right now, there's no notable price difference but I see in the future the possibility of a price difference/hiring privileges especially in the school setting where they base salary off of degree level. When speaking to an AOTA spokesperson they informed me some fieldwork placements aren't even taking masters students anymore and prioritize doctoral students. For me, there was a difference of 10,000 more dollars and one more semester to get the OTD so I thought why not! Both are great schools so either option is great! What helped me was making a pro's con's list and if this is what the profession wants in the future although it's not confirmed right now I think why not get a head start for just a semester more! For the program I chose there were 2 more fieldwork options than temple so I thought that would be great to have a variety and more experience with the doctorate.

Hey everyone! I have my interview with Thomas Jefferson this week and was wondering if anyone has interviewed with them in the past and had any advice for me. I am excited but also extremely nervous because I have never done a group interview. I‘m not sure what to expect/ how to prepare. Did anyone get any questions that threw you off or weren't prepared for? Any type of advice would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you🙂

If anyone has applied to the same schools and has heard back please let me know! I only applied to schools that don't require the GRE since I am terrible at standardized testing and don't feel its a good represntation of my academics. So would also love to find more programs that aren't considering scores 🙂

I'm not actually sure. I applied for MOT and know that other candidates during the interview were also for MOT, but I'm not sure if there were any a part of it for OTD.
