Wisconsin c/o 2017 Applicants!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Does anyone know if the admissions people said when the in-state letters would be mailed? I cannot wait to find out! lol.
I know, right? It's killing me. I'm IS as well. Ever since the rumor that (at leas)t OOS letters were sent on Friday, I've been on alert. President's day mail delivery holiday drove me nuts! I even left work today to go check the mail to see if anything had arrived.

I posted over in the successful applicants thread, so you can get a good look at my stats there. .

Sorry, I somehow missed your stats before (I only saw where you said you were contemplating posting haha) but I see them now! Thanks so much for posting, they were really helpful!!

I'm the lucky one who had a convoy with the admissions committee member about my application during my acceptance call! So here's what HE said he liked about my app: first off, my cum GPA is only a 3.6 and my GRE scores were just average but my last few semesters I've had a 3.8. However, he was impressed by my 3000 hours of clinical experience at a practice as kennel and tech since I was 16. I also have some research experience, though more with molecular bio and not with direct animal exposure. I also have about 2000 animal hours with a shelter and a couple wildlife places so basically I think what made me stand out was my amount of experience rather than just grades. My PS was also something he mentioned in that he thought I had a good grasp on the profession.
Other than that, I'm a minority (Puerto Rican) although he didn't mention that tp me so I dpnt know if that played a roll is all. The impression I got is that while they value grades heavily, they also value knowledge of the veterinary profession and experience a lot too.

Don't know if that helped or if it was just me rambling (trying to neglect studying for my micro anatomy quiz that's in a few minutes...) but I hope it helped you out!!!
🙂

No you're not rambling, that was super helpful! 🙂 But aahhh this makes me even more nervous because I'm kind of the opposite... relatively light on the number of vet hours (500 small animal, 300 large animal, 50 wildlife) but my GPA is very good -- just shy of a 3.9. I'm also a music major -- yes, I did say music haha. I've played violin professionally with several orchestras and went to a top music school, so I'm going to try to say in my personal statement how hard I had to work to do music and pre-vet at the same time. But I'm afraid they won't be as impressed by that as they are people like you and Wildcat, you both have a much more science-y background than me 🙁

Hi everyone! I technically don't belong in this thread, since I'll be applying this summer (for class of 2018), but I've been obsessively following all these threads anyway 🙂 UW is my dream school for a number of reasons, but I am out-of-state (Illinois resident) and the OOS situation may be hopeless since they only accept 10-20 OOS.

I read on the UW admissions website the average GPA and GRE for accepted out-of-state students and, although it was high, it didn't seem ridiculously so. (I believe the average GPA was only about a 3.8, and I currently have higher than this). This makes me think they are looking more closely at other factors -- after all, with hundreds of OOS applying for just 10 spots I would think they could have found 10 people with close to a 4.0. I've been trying to search these forums for the stats of accepted UW students OUT of state, but have had trouble finding any. For those of you OOS'ers that have just been accepted, would you mind sharing with me what you think was the biggest factor in your acceptance? Thanks in advance, and sorry for sounding totally obsessive and insecure 😀

Good news for you is that they're expanding the class size a little by adding ~7 more OOS seats 😉

You still have plenty of time to gather more experience hours this summer! I'm sure you're a very strong applicant so best of luck to you next year!!!

WAIT, they are?! and you definitely mean for next year, class of 2018? I hadn't heard that, but if that's definitely the case, that's a big increase! makes me feel a tiny, miniscule amount more hopeful 😀

Ack! So I just got my alternate letter. I'm in a position were I still have to be hopeful that they'll make it to my number!! The letter says in previous years they've made it to alternate numbers 25-85, but it'll be hard to predict what they'll make it to this year. I'm keeping my fingers they make it to 25 again! WI is my number 1 choice!

Lemurlove, are you OOS? I am still waiting to hear back from Wisconsin.

Yeah, I'm OOS.

Was there any sort of interview process? I haven't heard a thing so I wasn't sure if people were interviewing and I just hadn't gotten my "No thanks" letter yet. I'm becoming quite neurotic waiting.

I called the admissions office today, and they said that the decision letters were all sent out at the same time (at least the OOS, not sure about IS). The lady said that we should get them by the end of this month if not the end of this week. I'm really excited yet extremely nervous. I feel like if I was accepted I would have gotten a phone call like all the others. I did have a missed call from an unknown number, but there was never any attempted follow up. Ugh the suspense!! :scared:

there are no interviews

Wisconsin doesn't interview for vet school admission as far as I know. That might be different if you applied for a dual degree program??

For all the other anxious IS applicants, I called this morning and talked to Mary in admssions. She confirmed that all of the letters, both IS and OOS were mailed at the same time and that we should be recieving them if not by the end of the week, than by at least the end of the month.

Thanks for the info! I live 30 minutes from Madison and have been internally freaking out daily since I saw the first OOS get acceptance calls:scared:

I live in MKE, and am anxously awaiting a response, as well. I keep checking this thread hoping that an IS will post that they recieved a letter so that I can know whether I need to drive home from work and check the mail 🙂

I know that SDN is probably not the first place that someone will spread the good news, but I hope it is maybe the second 😉

I will certainly be posting once I hear! My dad is semi-retired and he goes to my house to let the dogs out while I'm at work. I have him checking my mail. I told him he should only call me if it's a big package since if a thin, white envelope of doom comes I don't need to find out about it at work! I prefer to have my meltdowns at home🙂

Hope you hear something good too!

I got the following email....but no letter or call yet! OOS.

It has come to our attention that some letters incorrectly reported missing coursework. After reviewing your file, I note that your coursework has all been completed and your admission is not provisional, as described in your admissions letter. We apologize for any concern this may have caused you. Please let us know if you have any questions about this.

Thanks guys. I know everything will work out the way it's supposed to in the end 😳 I got a letter today. I hope the rest of you hear soon! :luck:

Im number 92 on the alternate list. Do you know if they have separate OOS and IS wait lists like MN?

I got this same e-mail, so it does look like some OOS people who were admitted did not receive phone calls (I also haven't gotten a call or a letter), but maybe they just didn't call people with "provisional" admission? I don't know.

Congrats lilbearman! I hope tomorrow I receive something in the mail - either way I just want to know.

Are the letters coming to your mailing address or permanent address ?

Mine came to my mailing address, but I assume it depends on what you put on the supplemental app. I know that Georgia sent me a confirmation letter after they received my supplement payment and that went to my permanent address.

accepted IS after 3rd try! :] anyone know if someones making a facebook page? i would, but im still deciding between MN and WI

congrats to all!!

for those of you that were waitlisted, was it just a thin white letter?

i also don't remember if i put my permanent or mailing address, argh!!! will still check my mail religously, though. haha.

I got an acceptance letter today! I was not expecting it at all since I didn't get a call last week like some other OOS applicants. How crazy!!

Congrads CheshireNeko! That gives the rest of us who still haven't heard anything some hope.

Got my OOS letter today... it wasn't an acceptance, but I'm #1 on the waitlist! I'm having bizarre emotions right now, but I think they are good ones. Goodluck to you all.. I hope good news is coming your way. :luck:

thanks!!! 🙂 after spending a whole day doing loan repayment calculators, its lookin like im prolly stayin in WI! haha

#58 on OOS alternate list...likely they'll make it that far? They said there were 1018 OOS applicants for 27 spots..

Rejected IS. Third year in a row. Stings quite a bit when I did everything they advised me to do last year. Guess I'm going OOS
