That would be awesome! The only other school I'm applying to other than the ones I've made threads for is Oregon. Let's be honest, probably won't get into Wisconsin, but it doesn't stop it from being my first choice 🙂

That's what I thought, too, and I ended up being in a really good spot on the waitlist (would have been an acceptance if I hadn't pulled my app, based on acceptances on here). Never say never!

Off to go find what your stats were :meanie:

Good luck you guys!!!
Wish things had turned out better for me, but I got some good feed back from my file review if anyone wants some stats.

I gave them to you already, right Wildcat?

Yes because you're the best ever! 😀

Why is it your first choice? I'm applying, too, but I probably know way less about the program than I should.

Mostly the price, location, and good wildlife/zoo/exotics program.

I'm applying to probably the five you listed + VMRCVM (IS) and mayyyybe Minnesota?

Do you have any advice you wouldn't mind sharing based on the file review?

Sure. I'll pm you what I sent the others. Or I guess I could just post it for everyone. Currently on my phone cause my computer froze and I decided to watch toy story 3 so it will have to wait t bit but basically, they put a lot of emphasis on grades and gre and the animal ownership counts for an Imax experience

Sorry for any typos. Phone is new and I don't want to scratch the screen so I'm typing through the sticker that says "texting and driving...it can wait."

I don't get that bolded part?

Thanks for offering to share! No rush, not like the application isn't due for like three months or anything.

Ahahaha. Stupid auto correct. Supposed to be and "that pet/animal ownership counts for animal experience."

They were concerned about my lack of animal hours and asked if I had ever had a pet. I was like I've had dogs, guinea pigs, fish, and an anole and they said I should have included all that.

ahahaha. makes MUCH more sense now!

and good to hear they want animal experience included. was on the fence about listing it, but another school i'm applying to (IIRC) said to list also, so, why not? the others can just ignore it, right.

I dunno...I think IMAX experience makes it sound so much more epic...

Hi!

Thinking of applying here too, but I'm OOS and based on the stats I've seen Wisconsin can be one of the tougher schools in that regard...anyone have any input on that?

ALSO: been back and forth as to whether or not to apply to Minnesota too/instead but not sure if two Great Lakes schools might be overdoing it since the VMCAS fees are adding up 😱 does anyone have any detailed info that might help distinguish the two a bit? In terms of cost of living (other than differences tuition), likelihood of OOS acceptance, hallmark programs, geography/things to do around each school..

hey guys i applied to wisconsin and was accepted OOS so if you want an idea of my stats, let me know and i'll PM them to you!

overall, the wisconsin people were REALLY nice -- Lynn Maki was super helpful during the whole process and very accommodating, and very fast to reply to my questions. seems like wisconsin has a smaller class size too. and they have a relatively lower OOS tuition too!

Don't know much about Minnesota (except that it's an expensive school), but Madison is supposed to be a really nice city and I don't think the cost of living is too high. You just have to like the cold and the snow.

And totally realized I haven't posted the stats from the c/o 2016 but I'll do that tonight. I apparently deleted the PMs I sent to people, so I'll have to retype everything up.

Hey you guys,
So Wisconsin is definitely my dream school but as an out of state-er I'm worried my chances of being admitted are extremely low. I was accepted to the undergraduate Animal Science program at UW but alas, out of state tuition was over twice as expensive as it cost to go to my in-state university :uhno:

I've heard the admitted class at Wisconsin is only about 80 students and a very small percentage of those students are non-Wisconsin/Minnesota residents. Does anyone have a good idea of how difficult it is for non-residents to be admitted?

Thanks! 🙂

Okay in response to this and as promised, here are the stats for the class of 2016 in comparison to what I had.

I can't remember if this was the class as a whole or just OOS applicants.
Avg Invited GPA was a 3.76 (I had a 3.52)
Avg Required GPA: 3.81 (I had 3.72)
Avg 30th credit hr GPA: 3.5 (I had a 3.19...not sure how this is so low when my last two semesters were a 3.6 or greater. )

I had a 550 V (75%), 670 Q (63%) and 5 (84%) Writing on the old test. They told me those were average (which they are) and that I would need to take it again. They believe the GRE is the best predictor of how one will do in vet school. It was also recommended to me that I take another FT semester of science courses. However, taking this additional semester wouldn't have counted towards my 30 credit hour, so I really don't see how it would have helped that much.

They also felt my animal experience hours were low and asked if I ever owned pets. I said I did and had been told by other schools not to include pet ownership (unless it was breeding, showing, etc) so I didn't include it. They're apparently okay with it. They also told me that I should work on getting experience working with cows or other livestock.

Awesome, thanks for all of that! I guess this means I should keep studying for the GRE :d and try to get a bit more large animal experience before I apply. Who knows if I'll get in but it's definitely worth a try!

Has anyone submitted the Required Applicant Data Form yet?

I'm waiting to submit mine until I can add in GRE scores, but just noticed this line
With the exception of the analytical writing score, the score range should be between 200-800.
Does it actually require that to submit properly or was anyone able to submit with new GRE scores?

I'm waiting to submit until I have my summer grades, but I have played with it.

When you enter your test date, it pops up either the "200-800" OR the "130-170" message, depending on whether you took the old or revised test. I don't know if it makes a difference, but I'm seeing that using Safari.

Editing to add: I just re-read the instructions on the RADF and I see where it says "200-800." When you actually try to enter, it'll adjust itself based on your test date.

Just submitted the data sheet now that I have my summer grade. Fecking thought computer programming was going to be the death of me but pulled off an A. I definitely did a dance for that one. Guess the class got weighted 😀.

Jealous! I took a final this morning and may have already checked my unofficial transcript twice to see if the grade is posted... I really want to submit the RADF!

Never mind that I have an online class I also need to finish before I can submit it... I suppose I should be learning that material...

Eh, semantics!
Those GPA calculations are kind of a PITA though! I kept getting way nervous I was going to screw them up.

I set up an Excel sheet with different formulae according to each school's requirements (science, last 45, last 30, blah blah blah). Super nerdy, but I'm pretty sure it works.

Oh that's smart! I'm surprised I didn't do that, I love excel.

Usually I avoid Excel as much as I can, but this seemed like a good time to use it.

And lately, better Excel than Word, where my PS sits mocking me...

Me too, me too... I have this week off work and I'm going to really try to write a complete rough draft.

I was an OOS applicant last year, with solid GRE scores & GPAs, but nothing super extraordinary (except for my 96th percentile verbal GRE score, still not sure how I did that...). Had lots of animal experience hours, mostly from pet ownership (yes, do list it!) and working in a vet hospital for nearly two years. I think what ultimately got me accepted though were my essays. I love that the maximum character count was relatively low--it forces you to get to the point quickly and memorably! If you feel that your GRE scores and/or GPAs are good but not stellar, then I highly suggest you focus a lot of your energy on the essays.

I know it seems like the chances of getting accpeted at UW as an OOS applicant are slim to none unless you have a 3.99+ GPA. When I calculated out my chance of getting in based solely on probability, it was less than 2%. But it can be done!! I am proof!

Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions, I'd be more than happy to help.

Good luck to everyone!

Kristy.

Has anyone else submitted the Required Applicant Data Form? I just did. For every other supplemental I've submitted, I got an automated email saying it had been delivered. For this one, nothing--and there wasn't even an opportunity to review before submitting. If there isn't supposed to be an email, no big deal, I just want to be sure I'm not missing something. 🙂

I did get an email after I submitted it saying they had received it. But I think I had to do it twice because the first time I took too long to fill it out and it didn't work.

Interesting. Thanks!

To folks who have applied before - can you give any idea as to what the supplemental is like? I'd be interested to know what sort of things are on it (essays v. pre-requisite forms v. additional references, etc.) and how long they give you to submit it so I can have an idea in my mind about how much time I need to plan to set aside.

Also, any idea why they don't put it out until November? That seems strange to me given how it works at most other schools.

I received an email this morning from Wisconsin about receiving all of my required materials! It says the supplemental will be mailed out sometime in November. Does anyone have any idea what it is like? They give you a whole month to complete it so I'm guessing it's pretty detailed......

I applied last year and I remember they asked about any additional experience you have gained since submitting your VMCAS application and also any disadvantages you may have had. I believe there were a couple other questions but I can't remember them.

On an annoying note, I got an email from Wisconsin saying my last GRE scores are missing - grrr. I just ordered them (again) so hopefully they will get there by next Monday...

Refering to the late supplemental: I'd imagine that, especially since one of the questions is about updates and they don't interview at least OOS, that it is because they don't interview OOS.

Hoping Wisconsin sends the supplemental out soon so I can do something productive while procrastinating on my homework rather than just procrastinating...

Seconded. It would be nice to have some productive 'stressing about vet school' homework procrastination time.

I agree. I had a panic attack this week because I thought I had missed it or something.

It's up!!!! Haven't had a chance to look at it yet

Just got the email too! It looks pretty easy actually, no crazy essay questions a la Tufts or Cornell. Just lots of residency questions and updates to your experience hours.

I got mine too! So...I have a stupid question on the personal information. For the "Driver's license since" and "Vehicle registration since" parts, do we use the original dates we received these or the renewed ones?

I put my issue date, but I'm by no means and expert..I think they should have clarified it more. Also, the parents/family category was kind of vague too, I thought. Lots of ethnic questions and such.

I'm working on the uniqueness essay at the moment. I'm curious, I know we have 4000 characters, but how much are people finding they are using? Are you guys really pushing the limit or no? I think I'm probably going to have 2500-3000 characters, so I'm not sure if I should make it longer.
