WSU-CVM- Applications C/O 2022

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I can't find the email. If you find it, please let me know what the title is!!! I'm getting paranoid over here that I deleted an important email 😛

From Rebecca, this was when I emailed her about sending official transcripts to the school:

"Thank you for contacting us and congratulations on your interview! We do not need you to send updated official transcripts at this time. As you mention, just bringing the unofficial copies of all transcripts (including fall 2017) with you to your interview will work great for us."

Awesome!!!! Thank you 😀

Interviewing on Thursday, can’t wait!! Who else is interviewing that day?

How did everyone’s OOS interviews go??! Did you guys like Pullman 😛

My interview went so well! Both of the admissions committee members I had were so nice and I actually had a lot in common with one of them! We talked for 30 minutes and it felt like 10. Pullman is a nice quiet little town, found some pretty good Thai food!

Glad your interview went well 🙂 they definitely try to make it conversational.

Phikuns?

Did anyone write their interviewers thank you emails/ letters? I can't seem to find their contact info 🙁

I think everyone was really nice and relaxed. It wasn’t as stressful as some interviews. Pullman was quite small lol!

Are you still in Pullman? I wrote my interviewers thank you cards, and just dropped them off at the main office and they said they’d get them to them. If not, I wouldn’t worry to much.

I found their email addresses on the wsu website. Just googled their names and wsu.

For having interviewed in a handful of schools I would have to say WSU was my favorite! It was a welcoming environment and the interviewers made it so casual rather than nerve wrecking. It made me fall in love with WSU even more! Good luck to everyone! I wish you the best

OK so this might sound silly, but what is expected etiquette here in regards to thank you notes for interviewers? For my Mizzou interview I was told it was strictly prohibited to send thank yous. CSu was MMI so I didn't even know names so no thank yous. I really loved WSU and it's my top and cheapest choice despite having an IS so if thank yous are expected help.... please and thank you!

It’s recommended by advisors but not exactly expected. Just a nice gesture and sure won’t hurt your chances :cat:

Hi guys! Does anyone know if we have to fill out the WSU General Scholarship application? I got an email about completing it and about my FAFSA.

You don't have to fill it out. However when I emailed the financial aid department they encouraged me to do so even though I told then I wouldn't know about acceptance from the vet school til after deadline pass. So I did because hey if I go there there's one more chance I have at getting some of my school paid for!

Definitely fill out FASFA, but I don’t believe we qualify for any of the scholarships through WSU? The Vet school has their own separate scholarship system. It is sent out in Fall for current students, and during the summer for incoming first years. We’ve always been told to just do the vet school app.

Interesting! Because I emailed them and told them my situation and they were like yeah go fill it out.

Any students/interviewees that toured the vet school? I'm curious if there's a home room or central area for each class to keep their stuff.

There are lockers and there are also cubbies for announcements and opportunities too! I did take a tour and I loved it. There isn't really a home room, but they try to keep you in the same room/building all day from what my second-year touring us told me.

Each year has their own lecture hall, you’ll only move for labs or electives. A lot of people will leave their stuff in the lecture hall during lunch. Like they said, there are lockers that are very close to the first and second year class rooms. Everything is very close together and the buildings are connected (with the exception of the 3rd year building).

Hey! Sorry I'm so late but I was accepted to WSU for 2022 grad date! I was hoping some current students could say what the curriculum is like. I know everything is pass/fail but is there any problem based or case based learning? I know some other schools have that and it's really intriguing to me to be in small groups and go over cases pertaining to the body systems you're learning about.

@Caiter92 did a good job describing the curriculum but there's also Diagnostic Challenges to look forward to! In the fall of second year, you get to work up two full cases over the course of a week each, working in a group with other students in your class to diagnose, work up, and treat a case!

I can try to help you locate their contact information if you need it! During my interview, I had a non-faculty DVM as one of my interviewers, and I just sent the thank you email to one of the admissions staff, and she forwarded it to the right doctor!

I know Rebecca said that we would get letters/emails with admission decisions, but does anyone know if they're doing calls like they have in previous years? Every time my phone rings I freak out even though it's been a week:laugh:

Last year was the first time they'd done calls in 4 years, and I heard it delayed decisions going out, so I wouldn't be surprised if they went back to just emails and letters  I can ask one of the ambassadors and see if they've heard anything about calls this year 🙂

Thanks so much for all of your knowledge and wisdom Caiter92!

She said we will be getting physical mail and possibly emails as well. I kind of read between the lines thinking acceptances will get emails and mail and rejections or waitlist might just get mail.

Yep, that's how it normally is. Accepted get emails, then letters with more info. Waitlist and rejections are via mail.

Asked the same thing, got the same answer and implied the same thing.
It took me a while to put the dots together. But when I did I was like "Ohhh does that mean I am not getting in??" lol. She very much emphasized snail mail.

I wouldn't fret about it. I doubt Rebecca double checks your status before deciding how to answer this question. She probably gets it several times a day, and just sticks with the same answer. 😀

Yeah I know I was totally over thinking it after. More people don't get in than do and I assume a lot of people might not check their mail if they don't so she makes sure to mention that.

Are we all thinking beginning or end of this coming week? Super excited to hear back! Either way will help me move forward with this process (although I am really really hoping for an acceptance)!

I know Rebecca said 3 weeks tops, so I'm thinking earlier in the week for the early interviewers and later in the week for the later interviewers. I don't know though, I hope we all get good news soon!

Wondering how did everyone interpret the transcript request?
None of the other schools I interviewed at required transcripts so it seemed to be that it was a formality to check for new courses.

All the schools I interviewed at required current transcripts. Although only my most recent and not all of them. So

I don't think it's a formality. I took 3 pre-reqs this fall. I'm sure they wanted to see the grades for those classes. All schools I applied to wanted another transcript. 2 wanted official, 2 said unofficial.

Did the other schools just want updated transcripts or all transcripts?
I ask because I brought my transcript from my primary school, where I graduated from in August and haven't taken additional classes, but I didn't even think that they would want one from where I did running start because the official transcript from that school was already submitted to VMCAS. It just doesn't make any sense to me that they would ask for that one.

If we do get a letter from them, when do they update our student portal?

When I applied, if you were accepted you received an email and your portal updated with your admissions offer. Your physical letter came in the mail a few days later.

If you were waitlisted or rejected, no email and your portal never updated. Just letters that I think went out the same time as acceptance letters did.

Honestly don't see why they can't just update everyone by email/portal at the same time. Why make some students wait a few more days, hoping USPS is just late delivering their letter of acceptance? It just seems a little cruel and unnecessary.

I see your point, but honestly I kind of liked it? I wasn’t afraid to be checking my email, and I knew if I had something from them it was good news.

They aren’t doing it to be cruel though. They do the same with initial invitations and rejections.

Have out of state (non-WICHE) people already gotten decisions? Or are they releasing those the same time as in state?
