When does everyone have their interview?? Mine is Wednesday, January 24th in the afternoon! I would love to have a fellow interviewee friend to hang out with. I’m so excited but I fear the weather will delay my flight (I’m flying in day of due to work schedule....)

Hang out with me! I will be interviewing Wednesday afternoon too my husband will be with me... I'm also worried about weather. I'm flying into Spokane the night before and driving down to Pullman that night. I want to be there early, just to be safe.

Yay! Can I private message you?

I’m sadly flying to Spokane and then flying to Pullman-Moscow Airport because I will be by myself and I have never been to the area before so I’m sure I would get lost trying to drive from Spokane hahahaha.

Yes totally PM me! If my husband wasn't going I would probably pay the extra few hundred it would be to fly to Pullman.. I just didn't have great options that were cost effective for two people

Anybody interviewing on Monday? I interview in the morning and can't wait to meet everybody! 🙂

I'm actually currently really excited as we get to sit in on classes, etc. Plus I love the Pullman-Moscow area already so that's a plus. Of course it'll be nerve-wracking but I'm personally excited.
Mixy what day are you interviewing?!

Thursday morning. I'll be around the school on Wednesday from 4ish til 5-6 not 100% sure because I'm staying with a friend. Then I'll be there all day Thursday and Friday morning till like 10-11.
Oh cool maybe I'll see you on campus Wednesday? I'm interviewing Wednesday and driving back to Spokane that night to catch an early morning flight

I'm doing the same drive back up to Spokane Wed to fly home Thursday just to make it back to class in time

Unsure yet because I don't know what time my friend gets out of class. Will definitely be there if they don't get out until 6 but she doesn't really know if she'll be out at 5 or 6 because it's surgery so wait game yay!
Sounds like fun! If you are there PM me and we can sit through the panel together

Not opposed to that! Especially if I get bored. I'll pm you if I need if you're serious!
I would say I'm dead serious but that pun is too awful even for me. 😎

You'd actually need to email Dr. Snekvik and/or Dr. Nelson, but they're both awesome and super nice and I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem to have you on the floor. There are biohazard concerns (obviously) so you need official permission. I can pm you their email addresses if you want! I can also message you Wednesday and let you know how many cases we have, so you don't plan it into your day and then we end up with nothing going on. 😉 The pathologists are all really cool so I'm sure you'd enjoy meeting them!

Hey, do you guys know if we can sit in on classes if it's not the day of our interview? I will be getting in on Tuesday and interviewing on Wednesday. Thanks 😀

Has anyone found practice interview questions for WSU? I found some old stuff, but wonder if I'm missing a more recent page from the university.

I only have used what SDN pages have, and then some other common questions I've seen on other school pages. I wish there was something more UTD!

They've been mixing stuff up recently. I had a lot of the general "what attracts you to vet med," type questions, but also things like "here's a really weird scenario, what would your opinion be?" and "tell us about a time when you encountered dishonesty, and how you reacted." Make sure you're aware of current issues and disease concerns, and then have some good/bad experiences in mind to talk about (both vet med and interpersonal issues).

I just finished first year, and I'd be happy to try to answer any questions about the school or the area if you guys have any 🙂

Hey! Sorry I'm so late but I was accepted to WSU for 2022 grad date! I was hoping some current students could say what the curriculum is like. I know everything is pass/fail but is there any problem based or case based learning? I know some other schools have that and it's really intriguing to me to be in small groups and go over cases pertaining to the body systems you're learning about.

So we don’t have any entire classes that are case based, but we do have plenty of clinical case examples for us to work through scattered throughout classes, as well as most lectures having clinical cases for examples. First year not as much, but fall of second year our entire Sys path and clin path labs were case based, as well as having cases to work through for homework or lab reports. Third year Small Animal Medicine is largely case based I’ve heard, and I’m sure other classes third year are as well.

Like I said, we may not have an entire PBL cirriculum or class but we have plenty of it I feel like.

Let me know if you have any other questions 🙂

You must be WICHE?
(sorry I can't answer your questions, just curious how you have an acceptance already 😛)

Thanks for the info! I actually do have a couple more questions... How does the path tracking system work at WSU? Are there 3 tracks or does everyone go general and then take electives for their own preferences? Also I know WSU has a ton of doctors who are board certified in a variety of specialties. Do you think that having those doctors on campus is helpful for students who might want to specialize? I have been thinking about specializing in dentistry or radiology and some schools I got into don’t have specialists in those fields. I know you can always do externships but I was wondering if having them right there gives you any advantage. Sorry for the long post!

Hi! Yes I am WICHE but I was actually admitted early-admit (whatever that means) so I didn’t have to interview. I’m not sure if all WICHE people were put under that same category but I found out in December. When is everyone else hoping to hear by??

We don’t track. First three years we all have the same core cirriculum. First and second year our elective options are during lunch, and generally more like a seminar lecture once a week. Third year we have only fourish core classes each semester, and then have electives that are more like regular classes (behavior, small animal nutrition, Exotics, etc). But electives are not required if you don’t want to take any, aside from a “practicum” required to complete our ethics courses.

Fourth year we also all have the same core rotations (I think only like 20 weeks of them though? We have 44 weeks of required rotations) and then have electives we choose from from based on our interests. Fourth year we also have a few mandatory externship type things outside the school (some at only certain approved locations, others you set up on your own based on their requirements—again, you choose based on your interests). We also have four vacation blocks (8 weeks total) you can use for more externships if you want.

We do have a few boarded radiologists and a dentistry department, and an option to take rotations with them. We’re also required to shadow in the hospital a few hours every semester, but you can go hang out in whatever department you’re interested in whenever you want for the most part. Clinicians and fourth students have always been happy to explain what they’re doing and let you observe in my experience.

Honestly I feel like while some schools may make getting certain opportunities easier (like doing a rotation in house instead of setting up an externship), if you’re interested in something and willing to work to get those experiences, you will. Total COA of the different schools should really be your deciding factor, cause that extra debt really won’t be worth it.

Only WICHE is “early admit” 🙂 some WICHE receive conditional offers if they end up with WICHE funding, and are offered the chance to also interview with the general OOS pool as well. Others just are accepted as WICHE. Generally these are the students that are most likely to receive funding. Congrats! IS and OOS should hear by mid-Feb.

Hi everyone! Is anyone interviewing on Tuesday? I'm driving over Tuesday morning by myself so it would be nice to make some friends! I go to school in Washington but I'm an OOS applicant 🙂

Also, does anyone know if we need to pay for parking/ get a parking permit for the parking lot right by Bustad Hall?

Thanks!!

Yes, you'll need to get a parking pass (Green 1) for the parking lot right outside Bustad. These can be purchased at the WSU visitor center. There are also limited (usually full) metered parking spots. A better option is probably the CUE parking garage across the street from the vet school. You don't need to purchase anything in advance to park there, just get a stub and pay when you leave.

Is anyone bringing a guest? I know they say guests are welcome to come along, but I just want to make sure that it's not something that will be looked down upon if we bring one.

I interview tomorrow morning and I'm dragging my mom everywhere with me🙄 I know they mentioned that guests can come to the mixer, tour, class etc. so we should be ok to bring someone along!

Interviewing on tomorrow the 22nd! I just noticed there won't be a mixer or a student panel 🙁

Are you in town tonight? There should be one tonight if there isn’t one tomorrow.

I just got into pullman and I believe it started at 5pm 🙁
The mixer may still be going on if you want to swing by 🙂 If not, the ambassadors running tours tomorrow should be happy to answer any questions you still have about the school. Feel free to ask me any as well 🙂
