RAVE HERE thread

1. I found out that if I don't get accepted to Michigan's early admission program (only accepts 10 students), my application will be rolled over into the c/o 2015 applicant pool, and if I'm accepted, I can defer my acceptance for the c/o 2016 so I can finish my bachelor's degree.
2. I did really well on my genetics exam and got a 29/25 on my first orgo II quiz! yay!

I took my GRE last October and had the scores sent. I called Mizzou today, and they keep scores filed for up to 3 years so I don't have to have it resent!

I got a 99% on my first endo exam. I missed ONE POINT. Yessss, totally getting an A in this class.

I sure hope you do get an A!! I got a 100 on one of my immunology exams but at the end of the class, I still was afraid I didn't get an A! Just keep up the studying!! Do you have the same teacher for the entire class? I think that is what messed me up. We have different teachers for each test so one test is easy then the next is hard

Yup, same teacher! I can't imagine having different ones for each unit. Blech. Fortunately he likes me as I had him as a TA for parasitology last spring and it was a terrible class. Phew!

Just found out I may be a co-author for the person I've been helping with his research for the last about year and a half! Aahhh! I wasn't really expecting anything out of this other than some research experience and maybe a deeper look into ethology as a field, so I'm really excited.

That's a really nice end to a long day.

I have a 1/4 rant and 3/4 rave...so I decided to post this in the rave thread!

I have to work Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday...making a total of 66 hours of work straight through! (Ok that is the rant).

The raves: Massive overtime which equals more money after having just applied! YAY! AND the the Friday after that last day of working in a row....I am leaving to go to DISNEYLAND!!! I am so stinkin excited!!! :D

My last eLOR just submitted...eeeeeeeee...I just have to press that submit button tomorrow. Tonight I'm trying to finish up my Ohio supplemental and will be submitting that tomorrow too...I think I'll be relieved to have it done but not really able to relax because I'm still super super nervous =(

Everything is done for VMCAS!!! All my eLOR's are in!! I just have to submit Cornell and Tufts!

Two of my friends and I are looking for a house to rent for the next year. I'm pretty stoked. I love the fact that I have no bills while I'm living with my parents, but it'd be nice to get away.

I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. Walked out the cell biology/histology written test on Tuesday thinking I failed the test and therefore the class. Had the lab part of the test today and felt like I did well on that but I was worried that it wouldn't count for enough. Got my grade back and it turns out it did count for enough and it brought my grade back up :D. So glad to be done with that class! And glad to be starting a new class tomorrow: diagnostic imaging. :)

1.5 hours before the deadline, my vet submitted the last eLOR.

THANK YOU GOD!!!

I'm on such a high right now, and feel so relieved that not even this physics exam I'm about to go take can bring me down.

Prepare to be rocked Physics! RAR!

I am so glad to hear this! I was thinking about you all last evening, and crossing fingers and toes that Dr. #%$* would get the damned thing done. FANTASMIC!

Hope you knock that physics exam outa the park!

See ya Monday.

The ugly trees in my front yard got cut down today! The start of our front yard "renovation" has officially begun! And my sister is going to have a baby. I am so excited to be an aunt again!

Raves of the day:

Pumpkin spice lattes are back at Starbucks!

On a similar note: Tastykake Ghostly Goodies are back!!!

Incidentally, they go GREAT with pumpkin spice lattes.

Hooray for fall!!

This is a future rave but I will kick ass on my next Anatomy exam. Just going ahead and setting up that self-fulfilling prophecy right now.

I was stressed! It was hard! :D

And because I did okay, I got to get my nose piercing! Woo it's awesome! Left side, amymutt! But I will *not* wear tights or big clunky shoes. And my hair is pink.

No way, you think I would like that? I'm not really sure. :hungover:

Haha, clearly...

As for my own rave of the day, I'm head of the pre-health organization on my campus this year. Since our pre-health advisor does a million and one things, he has little time to actually advise our pre-med/vet/dental/pharm kids, so I've sort of taken it upon myself to use the meetings to teach people the necessities when applying. Today's topic was shadowing and clinical experience.

Unfortunately, I sent an email to the wrong listserv (orgname instead of orgname-l... I think "-l"s are dumb anyway) and didn't realize it until this morning at 9:30, when I was at the sale barn actually helping. So I called someone, had them send an email, and started freaking out because I'd ordered 11 pizzas (meeting is at noon). WTF was I going to do with 5 leftover pizzas if no one saw the visual ads we made and hung on Tuesday afternoon?

I show up, with my 11 pizzas, and eventually we have about 40 people in attendance. Considering in years past our retention rate has been awful, I'm incredibly happy with 40 people showing up with last-minute reminders (usually by this time we're already down to 30 or less people coming to meetings)!

Also, I was able to inform a couple of pre-vet students of the insane number of hours we are expected to have. No lie, when I asked how many hours of vet experience they thought they should have to apply, one kid said 75. Let's just say my school has a long way to go before it can say it is actually doing a good job for these guys....

I'm still too burning mad to even go into my rants for this week, so I'll rave instead. I just booked a new dogsitting client who's a client at our clinic with two elderly dogs who I LOVE. I'm thrilled especially since he's already asked me to watch the girls for three sets of dates, and wants me to help long-term one night a week when the organization he chairs starts up again.

Not that I'm not already insanely busy, but THIS job plus the other dogs I'm watching in a few weeks will cover my vet school application expenses - hooray!

I am so glad that I graduated this past May, because if I hadn't I would be in Flagstaff right now having to deal with the four tornados that hit the area!!

My thoughts and prayers do go out to all of those in the Flagstaff area....the place has been demolished.

I've applied to be on the Animal Care Committee last year and the year before. I just received this random email asking me if I can still attend the meeting on Friday. I guess I'm now a student rep?

It'll look great on my application if I don't get into the vet school the first time around.

What else are they going to throw at me? I'm having a hard time finding the time to get my proposal done... should have finished that by Monday... it seems that every time I make plans to do something in my spare time, something crops up.

Thank goodness this weekend is a holiday! Time for me to play catch-up.

That's pretty random (the email, not the committee), but exciting! Good luck with your proposal!

I have been working my butt off in organic II this semester because of a few reasons. First, I took organic I 3 years ago. Second, I got a C in organic I so I want to show myself and Mizzou that I am actually capable of doing organic chemistry.

My raves:

1) I was actually teaching others different reaction mechanisms (in organic I, I was the kid staring at the chalkboard watching someone else work, thinking, "How the **** does that happen?")

2) I am 99% sure that I made an A on the test today. I actually walked out within 15 minutes of starting the thing, despite it being 20 questions, and left with a smile on my face.

Just took a GRE practice test through Kaplan, and I got a 1260!! (66% quant and 85% verbal). I know I'm really rough with the quant so I've been doing practice problems, but my brain's not really in that mode anymore. On the plus side, I'm super good at unit conversions because of gen chem!

I'm super thrilled with this because I haven't been studying as much as I probably should have and I've heard that Kaplan's tests tend to be harder than the actual thing. Fingers crossed :xf:...I'm taking it next Saturday . Goal is 1300.

Got through my first round of midterms in college while getting A's on each one of them. Of course, they aren't hard or difficult classes but it's still wonderful to know that I can do it.

Also, my boyfriend/fiancé was just notified that he was accepted into the Reserve Firefighter Program in town. :)

I went to see Secretariat with some friends. Awesome movie. Just... awesome. So glad I went to see it.

My 14-day-old foster kitten's rectum prolapsed this weekend. Thanks to the awesome doctors I get to work with, it's now back where it should be and working just fine. She's taking the bottle like a little piggy, pooping normally, and generally doing great!

This past weekend was our orthopedic referrral clinic. I worked 10 hours on Saturday doing consultations with the doctor, ended up with 4 1/2 surgeries (4 dogs but one was having OCD repair on both shoulders...so that's where the 1/2 comes in). All of the dogs were over 95# and none of them were well behaved. However, we got started in surgery on time on Sunday morning and even though not everyone thought we moved the surgeries along quickly enough (this is the rave thread so I won't go into this here), the orthopedic specialist was extremely impressed at our turnover time. He expected to leave the clinic at 8pm at the earliest but he walked out the door just before 6pm. It was a long day, over 12 hours of standing, lifting, and kneeling with a 13 minute lunch break...and even though my back and my knees aren't very happy, it was the most confident I'd been at the referral clinic and the best we've done overall. I was very pleased with how it all turned out. Plus the specialist has become more comfortable around me so he talks more and he's hilarious.

The Chilean miner rescue is sooooo close to starting! I cannot wait to see this a success and am staying up way past my bedtime to at least see the first miner surface. It's time to :corny:

I wonder how they decided on who got to go out first?

"Ok who wants to go fi-"
*everyone* "ME!!!"
"-rst and make sure the tunnel is safe."
*crickets*

Though from my understanding Chile has classes akin to a caste system so it's probably whoever isn't an 'untouchable'. Or, from the other angle, perhaps the person that is..

Ah I was just getting on here to talk about the mine rescue! So so exciting. I will never complain about having to study ever again...or not very often...:D Am I the only one who teared up when the first guy came up?

Oh yeah. Big fat tears all over the Pasquini book. Especially when he hugged his son. And seeing the smile on his face!

This is not as triumphant as rescuing the miners (which was totally awesome and tear-jerking), but I got A's on both my organic II and biochem tests! So stinkin' happy!

I saw Secretariat too. I went with my mom who actually went to the Preakness he ran in. I recommend searching his Triple Crown runs on Youtube. The Belmont is just...breathtaking.
One of the people I went with was saying how she was ON HER WAY to the Belmont to see him run... but her car broke down. Ouch! So she watched it on TV and she was jumping on the couch, along with her entire family. Thanks for the recommendation, I'll definitely watch them when I get a chance.

I know the plan is for the shift leader to go last. I can't wait to see the videos on YouTube!
