Thanks for the replies. 🙂

I called today and was invited for an interview. This was actually totally unexpected since I am OOS. But I'll take it!

High five on the OOS interviews!!! I'm contemplating whether or not I am going to go or not.......the OOS tuition is like 50K...thats ridiculous!

Thanks man. Yeah, the tuition deal is definitely not something to be excited about. I understand your apprehension seeing as you already have an acceptance. Hopefully I will hear of an acceptance before my interview at usf as well. But I will still attend the interview either way b/c I go to school in FL and therefore dont have to worry about a plane ticket.

:luck: to you (especially choosing which school is for you)

👍Hooray! Got the call, I have an interview on Nov 24th at USF! I am so pumped! Anyone else going on that day? Good luck to everyone out there, and congrats to all those in and with interviews!

Oh, and does anyone know some good websites to check for practice interview questions?

lol ill be there the 24th of november. I am OOS coming from nyc, but i just came back from a year aon national student exchange at usf, so I am no stranger.

I'm going to be there on Dec 1st. Can someone who already interviewed confirm whether or not the interviews are closed, open or partially open? I've read different info in different places...

Both of my interviewers had a copy of my AMCAS application but they didn't know my MCAT or my GPA and they didn't see the secondary application. But i think that was pretty much open interview!

Congrats and good luck to all of you who received interview invites. I just got out of my USF interview like an hour ago. They are really cool there, super friendly, and they make you feel comfortable. Definitely don't need to feel stressed or nervous about this interview. Enjoy yourself and learn as much as you can about the school.

They will call me next Wednesday to let me know their decision...i'm crossing my fingies!:luck:

Hahaha you said fingies! I love you 🙂 Too bad we didn't get to see tampa gen today 🙁

Thanks all for the congratulations! I am so EXCITED!!! USF is my dream school and it's where I got my Masters.

Redrumi, I spoke with some admissions people and the interviews are partially open. They have a copy of your AMCAS activities and AMCAS essay but that is it. So study your answers from those ( I know it seems like we wrote them forever ago). Oh yes, I found the practive interview question on SDN, thanks ryserr21, they were really helpful!!!

For those of you going on the 24th, ryserr21 and sflo, I know the day starts really early...7:30 at the Morsani center. I'm planning on having my first cup of coffee and getting there early because I have to commute from Saint Petersburg and sometimes traffic is iffy. So if you get there, early, I'll be there!

Wow, this has been several years in the making and I am in utter, happy, shock! 😍

LMao i am loving the sdn party............

Accepted on Wednesday too! I was ecstatic! Still got other interviews in January tho...but i'm happy to know I'm officially going to med school thanks to USF 😉

what the...OOS state interview invite today! I read the stats recently and pretty much gave up on USF...1000 oos applicants, 38 interviews. So totally and completely unexpected! what a pleasant surprise.

Yay OOS! I was supposed to interview yesterday but had to reschedule (flights too expensive and inconvenient times). Depending on if I hear back from other schools, I may reschedule for some time in December or January.

Has USF given out Interview invites recently... I am in state complete early sept... and still no news 🙁

I was just interviewed 11/24 and submitted in august, so they should get to September submitters either in the next week or so, or they make pick up again after the holidays. Keep your chin up! You can do it! 👍

for redrum and griffin,

I was complete end of july, and interviewed on 12/1. Hang in there! :luck:

did you guys get the interview invites only recently though? or did you have the invites from way back then...

Hey, my file was complete 10/01 and I just got an invite 11/25. Hope that helps.

I was complete on the same date 10/01 but to my shock they called me on 10/06 for an interview invite! i still don't know how did that happen and i am not complaining.

Hi everyone,

I was trying to research a class profile for last year's entering class at USF. I interviewed on 12/8 and have been placed on the waiting list. For those of you who were accepted, do you mind sharing your basic stats? (GPA, MCAT, date of interview)
I have an acceptance to another school for which I need to put down a deposit soon and I am trying to get a better idea of what my chances may be like at USF, since that would be my first choice.

Thanks!

Hey jnjMD, I was also waitlisted back in November. They said to call at the end of December and they would provide me w/ my rank on the waitlist (top 1/3, middle, bottom etc.). However, when I called at the end of Dec as specified by Leila, she said.... "we don't give waitlist rankings." I was mucho confused by this, because one month earlier she herself directed me to call for the ranking... I'm guessing they no longer share this info with us (perhaps a change since REL left, speculation...) and because of this, it is hard to say what will happen for those of us waitlisted... I'm guessing around April and def by May 15th those in the top of the waitlist will hear... But because we don't know where we are in the waitlist, it is impossible to know. I know they rank interviewees with a number after the interview, and rank the wait-list according to this number which you receive at the committee meeting. I also know that this number is subjective and not entirely based on your GPA, MCAT or date of interview. Therefore, I would prob put down the deposit at the other school is I were you, and if you do get off the wait-list at USF just count the money lost at the other school as part of the whole crazy process! Just my advice, and good luck! 🙂

Hey guys, I just interviewed on Monday. They told us they weren't giving out the waitlist rankings anymore because they felt like that sometimes gave people false hopes and created a more stressful situation. I loved the school though. Crossing my fingers for next wednesday :xf:

Actually the rankings made it less stressful. now no one has any idea whether they even hae a chance to get off the waitlist. That would stress me out only more. I like the way they used to do it and think all these changes at USF are not great.

Yeah...that's why I said "they felt like it was less stressful," not us. 😀

My question is... why are they making these "changes" mid cycle? Like in November they say they do ranked wait-lists and in December they don't? They should have made up their minds about the details of changes to be made to this year's process before it began IMHO.

The problem is that there have been so many changes with USF adcom in the last several years. First it was Dennis Ledford leaving but that wasn't as big of a deal cuz Eduardo Gonazlez is awesome.

Then it was REl leaving the role of Director of admissions. This prompted last year's replacement Dr. Koehler who then hired Leila Amiri to be associate director only to be moved back somewhere else. Meanwhile John Schoppmann was recruiter and he was transferred to the office of Bryan Bogner. Then to top things off before in REL's day Dean specter was Dean of Admissions and Student Affairs. like 5 years ago or more Dr. Ted Williams was Dean of Diversity Initiatives in the med school. when he quit dr. wathington took over and then she quit to be in a position in Tally. Then she came back but they didn't hire her to her original position even though she is still part of USF Health, and Dean of Edu affairs was different. now they have one Vice Dean of all of those sections so she is both dean of admissions and director of admissions. Her name is Alicia Monroe. She's a Fam. Prac. MD like Dr. Gonzalez.

So you can see all the internal changes that keep on going on. In REL's day they called you every monday for an interview for the following week. Now its a 3 week advance notice for interview invites. Now they are changing the whole ranking thing up too.

Wow... I suppose I will cut them some slack, that is just craziness 🙂

haha, gujuDoc I got less than 6 days notice. 3 weeks would have been nice for sure.

But I really liked my USF interview day 🙂

Wow really? It used to be a week before the interview, then last year it was 3 weeks in advance is what I heard. now you are telling me they want back to the original way????

God these people can't make up their minds.

Another thing, last year they tried to go to standardized interviews but when they realized people lookup the questions on SDN feedback they changed it back to asking about themselves instead.

Hopefully they will learn the original way of things were better.

Thanks for the feedback guys. When I interviewed in December, they also told me that they didn't have the rankings yet because they were "just starting to compile" their waitlist. That leads me to believe that the waitlist is not that long yet. However, They said to call back in January, which I did. At that point they told me the same thing they told you about not having rankings. I really hate that... don't tell us one thing and then do something else. If they really did understand what this process is like for applicants, they would realize that the majority of us like having as much info as possible... especially when we have to make $2000 deposits at schools that are not necessarily our first choice.

I didn't apply to this school (dont want that massive OOS tuition), but your comment there is absolutely correct. How could it possibly be less stressful to know nothing?

For example: Do parents seem less stressed when they have no idea where their kid is? Hell no, they want all the information they can get and so would I. I believe every candidate would be much happier with a waitlist position number and periodic updates on exactly what number the school is currently accepting off the waitlist.

hey i have a question since i'm planning to apply here for the next cycle and couldn't find an answer skimming the thread. but when they say you have to explain grades lower than a B, does that include B- grades??

Actually, tuition is quite reasonable because they are willing to give you in-state status for M2-4. It works out to be cheaper than my own state school thousands of miles away.

Yeah, the consensus was that B minuses were to be included. It's lower than a B on the GPA scale. I just wrote a blurb on what mistakes I had made in that course, and what I would have done in retrospect. tried not to give excuses, basically.

ah man that sucks. i gotta explain like 10 classes ahha

yeah i suppose... most of them were in my freshman year anyways which is probably a simple catch-all excuse.

In a lot of these essays you can just give a generalized explanation which works esp. if all the bad grades were within a given time period and not spread out.

Does USF invite all waitlistees to their second look day? I just got the invite and am looking to feel special since they will no longer tell you where you are on the list. 😛
