Hi, this is probably not the place to post this so I apologize in advance.
But I promise its related to this thread. Do you know if I can send my amcas without my MCAT scores? (im taking the early august MCAT....) or should i wait till the scores are out to send the primary?
Also, since Yale has their secondary app out, and I have started filling it, can I send it to them or do I have to wait till I have sent in my amcas application, and have it verified.
What are the pros and cons to sending in the Yale secondary application early, i.e without being done with the primary yet?

You can submit the primary without scores. You can also submit Yale's secondary without being verified, although there's really not much point in it. They will not review your application without you AMCAS application, your MCAT scores, your letters of rec., and your secondary. So if you want to take more time, go for it. If you want to get it off your hands, submit it.

am i the only one who never got an invitation from them to complete the secondary? i did create an account back in early june when the app opened, so i got the email saying "welcome, here's confirmation of your login and password" but i never got anything else. my policy thus far has been to do secondaries only as i get invited to, but now i'm worried that yale doesn't send out an offical invite email.

it seems strange that they would open their app so early and not offically invite people until mid-july, or at all...

I never got an email either. Seems like they're taking their time in getting things together, maybe because they're not a rolling school. I just did the secondary on my own, as it seems a lot of us did.

yeah. i'm not doing that, so i guess i'll just wait and hit submit when i finally get the email.

the ivies are waiting until we're all inundated with secondaries. then they'll send theirs out and see how we prioritize them, based on how long it takes us to submit them. ok not really, but just a theory (with no foundation whatsoever.... except for my own logic, which has been known to be faulty OCCASIONALLY)

it says on their website you can submit the secondary whenever you want (even before they receive your primary). they dont care

i think we all realize that 😉

but was just wondering if anyone else hadn't gotten the invite because if i was the only one, something might not have registered with my app. i guess there's no need to worry.

Well I have to change my answer, since I just got the email from Yale a few minutes ago... maybe they heard us talking...

I've read through here but I don't think we reached a verdict - can we sent more than 3 letters if we are sending them individually? Has anyone called? If not I'm happy to on Monday...

I just checked the status page and it has been updated, shows my LORs and MCAT were received. At the bottom of the page, it states that my application is now under review as of the 9th.

blah.. all of my stuff is in but mine's not under review yet 🙁

Submitted 6/9, under review as of 7/9 🙂
Good luck everyone!!

Hi everyone,

I am inquiring about some of the wording that the Yale application uses with regards to submitting the LOR's:

"Letters sent together in a single packet:
If Yale will receive your letters in a single packet (for example, a pre-medical committee letter and/or multiple individual letters sent as a single packet from AMCAS Letter Service, VirtualEvals, or Interfolio), you must enter "Letter Packet" in the Name box below. In the Address boxes, enter the sending institution's name, city and state."

My university does not have a medical committee letter; consequently, I have 5 individual letters that were submitted to AMCAS. Therefore, I am wondering, will AMCAS send my 5 individual letters all grouped together (since I have "Multiple individuals letters" from AMCAS)?

My confusion arises because right after this statement, the secondary reads:

"Letters sent by individual recommenders: If Yale will receive individual letters (either directly mailed to Yale or from AMCAS, VirtualEvals, or Interfolio), you must enter each recommender's name and address in the boxes below."

Here it discusses individual recommenders, but as I said above, my individual recommenders have sent their letters to AMCAS. Consequently, I am unsure whether or not AMCAS will send each letter individually, or if they will simply put all 5 letters in one envelope adressed to Yale.

Ok so my status page has been sadly incomplete since mid-june which is super frustrating. All of my lors, mcat scores and payments are in but for some crazy reason I am still listed as incomplete. Thoughts??😡

finally under review !

Do you think for Why I'm interested in going to Yale...if I say something like their cardiovascular program or ophthalmology research is interesting...is that a good thing? I'm currently involved in ophthlamology research and will continue doing so during the year.

If that's why you want to got there, then sure. I don't see a problem with it.

In general I would look at the school websites to see what the school likes about themselves, things that are unique. And it usually isn't some high power department, cuz the admission office doesn't care so much that you are sure sure sure that you want to be a ortho surgeon or whatever. (Hint: Yale system, thesis, etc). You should really be talking about med student education and why you like their program, not that they are doing very cool things in whatever fellowship.

Agreed. That is what I have been doing so far--looking at the school's website and checking their mission statements/special programs to see if there's something that resonates with me. Essentially, I tell them they're all my number one choices, which is pretty much true since I'd be happy going to most of the places I'm applying to (maybe with the exception of Loma Linda...sorry, Buddhist here 😛).

I'm FINALLY under review as of 7/22. I submitted my application on 6/21, but for some reason, it says they didn't get my letters until 7/21.

Hey guys,

Just a quick question about "academic interruptions". I am a graduate student now, but in between my ugrad and grad degrees I worked for a year as a research scientist. Would that be considered an interruption?

Thanks!

How long after your primary was verified did Yale send you their secondary???

I assume you're referring to:
If your college education has not been continuous over successive years, or if you have discontinued your education for more than four weeks, please indicate the reason.*

Maybe I'm mistaken, but on the first page of this thread, general consensus was that they were asking if you took time off during your undergrad years.

I would call the admissions office and ask to be certain, and I doubt that Yale would mind if you wrote something, but I don't think this particular question applies to you.

Your call.

I was verified June 19th, but Yale didn't send me a notice about their secondary until July 11th. You can work on and even submit your secondary before they send you an email, just by using their website.

I applied last year. My AMCAS was verified on June 6th. I received the secondary from Yale on June 20th and was complete on July 2nd.

Did you get invited for an interview? If so, when?
Thanks!

Actually, now I'm getting paranoid too.
I'll call Yale admissions tomorrow, get a definitive answer and post it here tomorrow.

would you use the additional information page to tell about summer plans, or is that better for a letter of update?

I received an interview invite on September 2nd, interviewed on Sept 15th, and accepted on March 19th. September 15th was the very first day of interviews last year.

I would recommend waiting for something significant to report on your summer activities. Ask your interviewer for their card and email them your updates. Both of my Yale interviewers were extremely friendly and helped ensure that my updated materials reached the admissions committee. I would save this option for reporting significant additions to your application, such as publications or submissions, awards, and additional letters of recommendation.

oh oops.. I already submitted. oh well, so are you supposed to send update letters pre-interview or post-interview? and so all these "additional info" sections should be for SIGNIFICANT additions? ugggh

Just got off the phone with admissions; this only applies if you discontinued your education during college.

i.e. going to college for 4 years, and doing research for one before you apply to medical school does not necessitate a response for this prompt.

LAman, congratulations on submitting your secondary. Relax and don't worry now -- there is nothing you can change now 🙂

First interview invitations go out on September 2nd. Schedule your interview and then wait to send in any updates until winter. Make sure you get in touch with your interviewers to send them updates directly -- they are your best way to deliver your updates to the adcom.

Nope, no complete email, but the online status page will say if you're complete and if you're under review.

It's weird that I haven't even gotten an invitation to complete the secondary and I was verified mid-June.

So I submitted this secondary on 6/13, all of my mcats/lors were received by 7/9 but it still says that I am incomplete. I have called the admissions committee several times but they don't seem to be able to do anything about it. :help:

Not to be unkind, but what makes you think that the people on SDN will be any better able to troubleshoot this for you than the Yale Admissions Office?
