I have a question regarding the school deposits... so I thought we were supposed to get a month to accept and send in the deposit but I've been hearing only two weeks on this forum for some schools. How are you guys handling this? Like, if I get into a school and send a freaking $1000-$2000 deposit and then interview elsewhere, am accepted, and end up liking that place better... my parents are gonna flip out about two deposits haha. Any thoughts?

I totally jinxed myself with my post from earlier today... I got my first rejection and it stings!

RVU wrote me this email today:

"Your completed file has recently been evaluated to determine your interview status. Based upon the information received, I regret to inform you that you will not be extended an invitation to interview for admission to Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine for the class matriculating on August 2011.

Please feel free to contact me if you have questions regarding how to strengthen your application for next year's cycle."

I really kind of want to call and ask why they didn't think that I was good enough to interview... I mean, it's a new school, and I actually worked hard on my essay for why I really wanted to go here... Hmm. Oh well, gotta weed out the duds to get to the good stuff! 🙂 First rejection always hurts a little I guess! I just can't believe this was the first school to reject me. Haha. I mean, I applied to 48 schools, most of which I was expecting a rejection from! Really, RVU, Really?

I wish some of my schools would stop leaving me hanging and just tell me if they want me or not! All of this waiting is much harder than getting a few rejections and knowing where I stand.

You asked for it lady! JK JK! It does sting a little. Hopefully it'll just make the good news even sweeter. 🙂 :xf:😍:xf:

Ouch sorry to hear, at least you got 2 interview invites before the first one though! BTW, you have the wrong Touro on your MDApps, Mare Island is California... Henderson is NV lol

Also, I still don't have Touro-NV's secondary >.<

Hahaha, I thought that was weird!!! I was thinking there were no islands in Nevada this morning when I updated finishing the secondary application... I will change it now!

Cali is so freaking expensive!!!

I think they only send secondaries to screened applicants, that may be why you don't have yours yet... They might be slowly looking through applications before sending them out... I got that impression because the email I got from them said:

"You have successfully completed the first phase of the admissions process."

Whatever that means... Sure you will get yours soon! I still don't have KCUMBs secondary invite either...

Bah, I got an interview there last year! I should just bypass the screening process and be sent another interview  silly Touro. If nothing else the interview is a good reason to hit up vegas for the weekend woooooo lol

If you don't mind me asking, where did you receive interviews last year DbDan? I know you said LECOM-B too? Just curious 🙂

Just those two. Waitlisted at both. Never heard from LECOM, was on the mid-waitlist for Touro

Damn, woman!!! Did you really apply to 48 schools? And here I was complaining about my 31... haha.

Sorry again to hear about RVU... The first one really hurts. But it makes you appreciate the invites you have all that much more. 🙂

Yup... 48 schools. And I have probably written over 100 essays already for all of the secondaries I have sent! 44 secondaries to date! I am starting to think that I enjoy torturing myself by now... The worst part is the money. But I figured I have to cover all of my bases this time around or I would really regret it if I had to do this process for the fourth time... I would be pissed if I had to do this all over again actually... Let’s all hope that doesn’t happen!

Wow! That is awesome! Color me impressed! You'll certainly be getting acceptances this time around. 😉

My impression of this is that it is regulated by AACOMAS, so the schools have to give you a specified amount of time based on specific dates. I don't remember them exactly, but it's basically 30 days up until December, then it switches to 2 weeks until May or June, then it is immediately. That's from the top of my head though, so you might want to verify it, but I think that's how it works for all DO schools.

I believe all/most MD schools will charge a REFUNDABLE deposit if you notify them by May 15th of your decision not to attend.

I feel your pain... 38 schools for me I think it is. Sooooo many essays! I am pretty proud of myself that I have finished all but two of them now (one of which I haven't received). Last time I applied I didn't even have my AMCAS in at this point haha

Yeah that is what I read in the CIB or somewhere, but I thought I read in a few school threads here that some DO schools just don't abide by that regulation at all.... I could be wrong though, I hope I am lol. I'm not worried about the MD schools because they are soooo much cheaper in terms of deposits lol

Damn! You two are impressive! I thought 25 schools complete was something, but apparently not around here... 😳

I am with you on your second statement as well, I wasn't complete/verified on my AMCAS last year until the end of August and secondaries weren't even complete until mid-September. Now this year we both have interviews already! It's going to be a good year! I can feel it already!

So true for the MD schools. They are about 1/10 the amount of the DO deposits.

I thought that those deposit policies via AACOMAS were in place to protect the applicants, so it will be a real shame if schools are completely disregarding it.

The stuff listed in the CIB is true. Lecom's give 30 days for the deposit, there are 1 or 2 that the deposit is within 2 weeks I think

i was placed on hold but im really surprised they just rejected u. they don't take into account grad gpa as much?

and wow 😱, i forgot u applied to so many schools! after going through this process, i cant even imagine having to do that many secondaries. im still sitting on albany and temple for almost a month now and im considering not sending it in

Also, I still don't have Touro-NV's secondary >.<

i still don't have KCUMB's secondary...im wondering what's takin so long

same wit me too. no touro-nv and no KCUMB yet.

Now this year we both have interviews already! It's going to be a good year! I can feel it already!

congrats man! where did u get an interview at?

and that DO book finally came into my library so ill be reading that as soon as i get the chance

Here are the AACOMAS guidelines, but not all the schools follow them. But for those that do, the earliest a deposit would be due is Dec 14th. After that it changes.

From the CIB:

AACOMAS traffic
guideline schedule:
• Those accepted prior to November 15 will have
until December 14.
• Those accepted between November 15 and
January 14 will have 30 days.
• Those accepted between January 15 and May 14
will have 14 days.
• Those accepted after May 15 may be asked for
an immediate deposit.

Got KCUMB's secondary today, as well as the University of Miami's.....kinda bittersweet because I was hoping for some interview invites in my inbox....but I just get more secondaries!!! yay!!

I know... I mean, there are definitely things wrong with my application, don't get me wrong, I know I may look like a risk for most schools. But personally, I think that I am not lacking on experience one bit. Also, my MCAT is now acceptable for most DO schools... Plus, I retook chem I and phys I after I got my masters, and I got straight A's in both of them. I could technically go back and make full on A's in post bac, but I am almost 28 years old, so no, I am not doing that. I refuse.

I guess the only thing I can come up with is that I am just not the right fit for this school. Or maybe they want to make their first few years of stats look appealing and are only interviewing people with much higher GPAs than me… Yup, that's all I got!

That sucks that they put you on hold! I bet you will still get an interview though. 🙂

So for those who were accepted to LECOM-E already.... did they give you a deadline for the deposit, or was it December 14 like the rules state? I honestly wonder if you could argue this with a school that DID tell you they had a deadline before December 14th... It's so early on in the season that I feel it would be unfair to have a 2 week or even 30 day deadline for deposits. It isn't even because I "want MD over DO" it's just because I have so many interviews coming up early on, I want to be able to mull things over before I decide where I'm spending 4 years of my life lol (assuming that I would be lucky enough to have a choice, that is lol).

You have 30 days for LECOM after you get the decision. I doubt they will give you to the 14th because it is stated that is not their policy in the CIB

Oh WOW... I thought my 21 was bad. you and noshie are troopers! 😉

I'm prewriting all my secondaries at the moment before school starts. The last thing I want to do during my fall semester are SECONDARIES

Congrats to everyone in their interview invites!! I'm excited for ya'll!

Nice! That book is pretty good so far. It's actually very enlightening. I hope you enjoy it as well.

I completely agree with this. Or if they want to charge the deposits, make them partially refundable.

OK so I have a few questions regarding secondaries that might sound simple but I am a bit lost and hoping that some people that have gone through this process already or have past this step for the application season could help me out a bit

1) I was released today and have been recieving secondaries via email since yesterday. I have recieved and submitted secondaries for both LECOM"s and Nova. LECOM states that they do not want your lor's unless your asked to attend an interview. However, Nova doesn't mention this in thier supplemental. I have browsed through thier schools discussion thread and from submitting the supplemental am aware that they send you a conformation email with a copy of your 2ndary in pdf. does this email have any instructions regarding the lor's. I have yet to recieve this email as I submitted today past 5pm.
2) I currently have an mcat score, however I marked on my application that I have one pending. (I am actually taking it again tommorow). Will some schools hold off from sending me my secondary until they recieve my new mcats? or will they send it to me if it already makes thier cut offs?

3) Despite having an MCAT score pending, will schools such offer interview invites based on your current mcat score? has that ever happened? or do they just put it to the side?

thanks I guess I am just anxious cause I would love to hear back from some schools as my mcat is below average but significantly about schools cutoff's. just a little anxious.

I can answer these for you...

1) It's good practice to just have your letters sent everywhere once schools have made a file for you. They won't trash them and most school's need them somewhere down the line anyway.

2) I went through this same thing. Had a 27 that AZCOM sent me an invite with before they got my new score. However, if you believe your new one will be much better than the current one or you feel your current one isn't good enough then contact schools and tell them you want them to wait. Some will and some won't even after you tell them, but generally I think most schools review what they have unless you explicitly tell them otherwise (aka even if you listed one as pending).

3) I believe I answered this with #2.

first, thank you so much for clarifying that for me. So when do schools officially have a file on me? once they recieve my primary? or once they recieve my secondary? if its once they recieve my primary and have sent me a secondary then im sending my lor's to a bunch of people. if not ill wait till i submit the secondary and send the lor's in at the same time via interfolio.

thanks again

Good luck man 👍
im actualy nervous as crap that my score won't be better cause my original was very lopsided. ps 6 vr 8 bs 9. if i only had 2 or 3 more points on the ps i wouldnt have to take this thing again. although now I am worried that I have focused so much on the ps that my other 2 sections will drop which is why I applied to a few schools that take your highest of each section. still nervous as anything though. havent slept well the past 2 nights. lol thank you for the good luck though and hell if I don't do as good or better than theres always next year. 🙄

just overly frusterated as this will be my third time taking it this year and I was so distraught from the last time I saw my scores I literally dropped to my knees as 2 days prior to the exam I pulled straigh 9's on AAMC so I figuered I would score around my average but didnt(for the second time). It's still really heartbreaking thinking about it lol

the application selection is really puzzling sometimes. your ECs def blow all of mine away, and i would think ur grad gpa shows u can handle medical school courses. and i agree, post bac would def not make any sense if u already did well in a masters.

but with the amount of schools u applied to, im sure you'll have many more invites to come in addition to the ones u already have!

and yea it sucks to be on hold. two holds this season so far! hopefully they'll be the only two :xf:

Do something fun for the next couple hours and then get a good nights rest, you'll be fine 👍

sounds like you've been studyin hard so dont sweat it man! worst thing u can do is bring the frustration and worry about the past exams wit u. nerves are probably what got you before but just think how much more comfortable you'll be now that you'll be goin into a familiar situation again. im sure you'll do fine, gl!

first, thank you so much for clarifying that for me.

Different schools do it differently so I don't think there's a hard and fast rule. As far as what I did, I sent all my letters out before I got all my secondary requests and was still complete at all my schools. I think if you're already submitting secondaries just send out your letters to everyone and you'll be golden 👍.

Good luck tomorrow. Try to not sweat it so much. It sounds like you're putting everything into your studying, so just roll in there, take a few deep breaths and starting clicking some answers. 😉 I tend to stress a bit for exams as well, and the best advice I've ever received was to not make the exam some big gnarly beast that is going to eat you up and spit you out if you don't do well. You already know that you can do it on all your sections now is the time you just do it. Don't think about it too much, don't think about your apps, don't think about med school, just take the exam.

Best of luck, man. I'm sure you'll do great in all the sections. 😉

niiice you better own that interview! congrats again!

ill prolly start the book this weekend. lookin forward to it

Thanks! I'll do my best. 🙂

Hey guys

Are Western's secondary prompts limited to one page single-spaced or double-spaced?

im actualy nervous as crap that my score won't be better cause my original was very lopsided. ps 6 vr 8 bs 9. if i only had 2 or 3 more points on the ps i wouldnt have to take this thing again. although now I am worried that I have focused so much on the ps that my other 2 sections will drop which is why I applied to a few schools that take your highest of each section. still nervous as anything though. havent slept well the past 2 nights. lol thank you for the good luck though and hell if I don't do as good or better than theres always next year. 🙄

RELAX bro! You know, a lot of how u do on the MCAT stems from the couple days before you take it. It's tempting to do 1 LAST AAMC TEST just to see where you're at, but don't do it. Forget about your AAMC averages, studying, everything! Just spend today relaxing with the mindset you're going to go in there and WRECK IT (in a good way!).

What you MIGHT want to consider doing if you haven't already is checking out the test site. I think driving is the best way to avoid doing something you'll regret (studying last-minute), and it'll help to walk around the test center a bit to get comfortable.

Overall, we all went through what you're going through... and I think all of us feel that it's so important to just chill the day before. I remember my day before the MCAT... it included super mario, music, basketball, and lots of pizza 🙂

Anyway, best of luck! Not that you'll need it, since you're going to destroy it to begin with!! 😉

GREAT advice, make sure you visit the test site and make a lil schedule for test day (breakfast, etc.) , get some exercise to get your blood flowing and have a good dinner... preferably pasta and/or fish.... for energy/brain food the next day and just relax. Know that your preparation is what's gonna take you thru the test.

I always treated all my standardized tests like it was a gameday and relaxed the previous day accordingly. It hasn't failed me yet! Good Luck!

Touro-NV just hit the inbox. Going to do it in a few.
