Sorry for asking this again, but is everyone writing the secondaries like their personal statement? I'm so torn lol.

And...are policies on deadlines strict? Western said their secondary deadlines are 30 days after recieving email instructiosn for secondaries...so If I don't finish it in 30 days is my application getting thrown away or something?

OMGG..someone help >.<

I dunno about Western... I think they're the only one with a timer on their secondary (I could be wrong though).

For secondaries, I don't think they're looking for a new personal statement. I think they want you to specifically address their question in a reasonable length... maybe half a page's worth.

Firstly, it won't get thrown away, it might get delayed, or them might have you explain why it took longer than 30 days to submit! (being lazy won't fly btw).

Secondaries essays, give you the oppurtunity to possibly expand on what you have mentioned in your personal statement. So, yes there will be stuff you talked about in your personal statement, but it should not be a copy and paste of it.

There are quite a few schools with deadlines. A few that come to mind are DMU, KU, Loyola, etc.. I know I have seen about 6 or 7 of them, but I haven't checked on the ones I do an immediate turnaround on.

badmintondr, if you are really at a loss you should go buy some books that help you with essays or see if there are some good examples online. It's really not at complicated as it seems that you are making it. Just answer their question and sprinkle in yourself all over it. Give examples of why you are saying what you are saying based on your experiences, etc. Don't just arbitrarily add things that are unsupported. The way I approach an essay is to say, "Ok, I made this point, did I support it? And this one, did I support it?"
 
Dang! First thing I hear back from any DO school is from AZCOM politely telling me I am not quite good enough for this round, maybe they'll consider me later....Arg! Well, at least it is better than a flat out rejection.

Anyone know if CCOM sends the same type of letter? Saying that they won't extend an interview at this time but they'll review your application again at subsequent times? Or do they just send a rejection letter?

I'm sure they do something similar. I applied to both of these only a day or two a part so I should hear back from them soon (hopefully not in the same polite fashion).
 
i got an email from lecom-erie giving me interview information and when i logged into the portal, it said i had an interview. however, i haven't gotten a call yet specifying a date. did anyone get the email before the phone call?

phone call? Hmm, LECOM-E sends out interview invites via email..
 
hi guys i have a question...i submitted my primary app. a week ago, still processing...however once it is approved how long does it take for the schools to send their secondaries?

are they supposed to send me another email specifying the date? the email that i got has three attachments but no letter....
it just has driving directions/interview day activities
i logged into the portal and it says i will be emailed ten days before my interview to ensure that i am going to be attending...

3-10 days..(based on my own experience)
 
nevermind...they're not even a list of interview activities....
it's just something called lecom erie pathways which is a list of classes, hotel prices, and driving directions...

It's weird! There is supposed to be a specific date somewhere in the email! Please read your email again. I'm pretty sure it's in there..

omg! gosh i'm dumb!!! you're right...i just changed the settings on my email so it was hidden till i clicked on it...thanks for making me check again lol :]
i'm scheduled for november 19th. that's so far away!

The interview invite email's subject line/title is supposed to be "D.O. interview at LECOM Erie". And there are three attached documents (driving directions, learning pathways, and a list of hotels)..

Don't worry. I'm pretty sure your invite email is gonna come soon since your portal status has already changed 😛 Wait two more days and if they don't send you an email by Friday, give them a call. GOOD LUCK and Congrats! :]

thanks! i wish i could be more happy about these interviews but i feel kind of dejected since ucla hasn't offered me a secondary :[

That's ok. UCLA didn't offer me a secondary either (expected tho 🙁 probably was screened out)..

No love from most UCs 🙁 I was rejected by UCD (pre-secondary)..and the only UC that offered me a secondary is UCSD :] Hopefully they show me some love/mercies and offer me an interview, haha..

ok, i feel like an idiot right now but I have to mention this. In all of my secondaries I have a spelling error. Its a bit wierd but I was describing how I have never experienced rural living until I met a special person in my life. I was describing an activity that I now love to do (mauling wood) I used the phrase "chopping wood with a maul". Only to later realize maul is not short for mallet but has its own term, maul. In all of my essays I have been typing this word in that phrase as mall. So, now I feel like an idiot but this goes to show I'm not lying I suppose. don't I feel like an idiot right now. Its 3:10 in the mourning and a future doctor can't even frickin spell maul right. GODDAMMIT

so you think this will put me out of the running? or you think they will notice and not care? or will they just not notice. god im now freaking out, hopefully over nothing.

I wouldn't sweat it too much. I think it's rare to find essays without typos, etc.. If you read sample essay books they usually have a disclaimer that states the essays are presented "exactly" the way the writer wrote it, "including spelling errors and typos." Maybe not in that exact verbiage, but you get the gist.

Just correct it for all your future essays. I know I have at least 2 typos in one of my essays, and I probably have more in some of the others...

Don't sweat it too much. I'm sure they just skim them anyway.

I was thinking they probobly don't read them all that thouroughly. Thank you very much. I was sweating it hardcore. as far as correcting it, already done lol.

but seriously ive never even bought a maul in the past 3 years and Ive been mauling wood like 2 summers in a row, I had no idea.....

I know I had a spelling error in my primary application. At first I was so mad at myself but now..well, not a big deal..You should be fine..haha..
 
I think NSU and KCOM's interview invites are out..just checked my email this morning..🙁 nothing for me yet..
 
This whole week has been slow for me... Good thing the next two days will be so busy that I won't have time to really check my email and be disappointed!

Its been slow for me too!

GOOD (-ish) NEWS though. I FINALLY got my DO Letter Writer on the Phone today. We were able to have a nice chat. He PROMISED to have the letter written today. We'll see :xf::xf::xf:

I know this doesn't belong in the secondary thread, but I look at this thread the most lol.

Anyway, so I'm getting anxious about not having shadowed a DO letter yet, since the only secondary I've been able to fill out is LECOMs... I've gotten all my other secondarys via email already throughout last week. Do schools look down upon people who submit their secondary late once they get it??

Also... how did ya'll meet your DOs you shadowed? I tried the iLEARN Mentor Program for a couple DO's around the area, but to no avail. Did you just call around? Email?

Also... about how many hours did you shadow before you asked for a LOR? I know it depends... I just wanna get a rough estimate.

Last question... what did ya'll wear when you shadowed? Casual clothes? Slacks/t-shirt? Formal clothes?

Sorry for the seemingly dumb questions... since I can't submit any secondaries without my DO LOR I'm freaking out!! Hopefully I get some Texas or LECOM love though... :xf:

If I were you I would go ahead and submit the secondaries because then it only looks like it is the letter writers fault that you're letters are getting there later. If you take a long time to submit the secondary, they may see it as uninterest.

I met my DO through a mentor program at my school. I would check with your school see if they have a program. If not, some states have programs on their website where they will set you up with a DO to shadow. If you can't then I suggest you call around to the DOs in your area.

As far as what to wear, professional clothes. slacks and nice shirt. If you are a guy then a tie would be a good idea. No need to wear a suit though.

I met the DO from my church and asked him if I could shadow him. He was so cool about it and said "yes" right away. And on the first day when I shadowed him, I didn't ask him for a LOR. HE ASKED ME! lol..:meanie: He asked me if I needed a LOR so he could start writing it..HAHAHA, I feel SOOOO lucky! :laugh::laugh::laugh:

Edit: I shadowed two physicians. The first doc (MD) told me it was ok to wear jeans. The second doc (DO) told me to wear tennis shoes and something comfortable because we would be running around (at ER)..

Thanks ya'll! It gets a little nerve-racking when so many people are getting interviews and I haven't gotten one. I was so excited about the call I almost threw up. 🙂. Anyway, i'm thinking Oct 6th or the 12th. Are you interviewing down there?

Where are you located? Do you have an osteopathic school near by? If so, try emailing an admissions counselor to see if you can shadow any of the physicians at the school.

I shadowed a DO for about 30 hours before I got my LOR, but I asked her early on just so she could prepare.

As for what to wear, it's better to over-dress than under-dress IMO. I wore slacks, shirt, and a tie under the required white coat.

True that. Is it okay to submit secondaries and my committee LOR without my DO LOR? I know they won't process it until they actually get my DO LOR, but is it risky to send them in separately? I'm worried they may lose some of my files! haha. Maybe I'm just being paranoid.

But anyway, I'll take your advice and submit them ASAP. At least I won't have to worry about it afterwards!! lol.

Nice! That is awesome! Yeah, I'm going in the end of Sept. I was wondering if you were going to be there the same day, but I guess not. 😉
