Oh well, guess I ****ed that one up... hopefully that own't DQ me from being able to get an interview

im sure it happened to a lot of people. that was sneaky. i def would have missed that one too if i didnt see megathunder mention it. i just went by the instructions they mailed out

I'm sure they will look over it, as long as you didn't ramble on for that last half a page.

I made sure it was very clearly written and to the point. I'm not one to stretch for fluff, I would have made it half a page if I got my point across in it. I'll call/e-mail them Monday and see what they say. lol

anyone else still waiting to hear from NYCOM?

ok, cool. just making sure i wasn't the only one being shunned haha.

yeah, i'm feeling like a neglected golden retriever.

i need NYCOM, the PCOM's, pikeville, and william carey. i think everyone else i've applied to at this point, has gotten back to me about secondaries.

I'm still waiting on SOMA, PCOM, GA-PCOM, TUCOM-NV, NYCOM, and KCUMB. But yeah, I'm actually kinda glad a lot haven't gotten back yet. My new MCAT score comes out on the 20th and the more schools that can factor that one in without me personally delaying my app the better..

ah, i forgot i'm waiting on touro-ny too. my new score comes out august 10th

That's a smart bet. I'm guessing ability to follow instructions is fairly large on their list of how to eliminate people and decide on interviews. If you can't follow them, then they feel less inclined to want to give you an interview... unless you're an amazing applicant otherwise.

I remember when I screened resumes in the past and anyone that didn't follow the directions went straight to the "round file."

I spoke with Lynn their admissions counselor who assured me its not at all a problem for those that wrote single spaced. She said its super common and they don't mind it. Like you said, as long as its relevant and not rambling fluff they will read/review and not care.

Anyone else still waiting on an invite from Western?

Anyone else still waiting on an invite from Western?

Yep, I'm still waiting. It's got an application in my login (I have it from when I applied to SMP) listed as a re-app. I haven't gotten an invite to begin the secondary though. I'll be completing it the same day I get it though. After this midterm tonight I plan on spending this week (off from work because I've got no patient) writing every single secondary essay so I can turn them around in a day... money permitting at least.

Hey, SOMA's invite came in my spam folder- maybe it's in yours too? I almost deleted it, but I figure I should search every piece of mail during this crucial time... and there it was.

In case anyone else didn't know, you have to mail in a signature page even though you "digitally signed" NSU's secondary application.
I didn't know about it until signed in again and saw a statement regarding the signature thing.

i emailed NYCOM but got no response so I called them today regarding the supplemental application.

the person I spoke with said that they are still in the process of finalizing the incoming class and will begin working on the class of 2011 soon.

i told them im ready to submit the application but am waiting for some kind of email, but they said i can just go ahead and submit it now.

i think someone said on here that they received an email from NYCOM so not sure if i should proceed if they havnt looked at my primary yet.

im an NJ resident but didnt mention it when i spoke with them

still waiting on KCUMB, PCOM-GA/PA, pikeville, touro NY-nevada, western university-OR/CA. and i still have to start some of my MD ones

-and have any of u guys received the "your application is complete" emails from schools?

Yeah, I got a few of them today and late last week.

Gaddamit, it was sent on the 18th but I must have deleted my spam folder by accident. It must have been the first time I cleared it, too, because that was the only time I didn't check everything inside it first. Oh well, called up the office and they said they haven't started looking at interview invites yet but they will this week. I'll send it out today or tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up tho, appreciate it.

Good to know! Heard some conflicting advice on turning in their secondary...

I haven't received any secondary invites so far this week... I’m getting super antsy. I have 7 AACOMAS and 6 AMCAS schools left to get secondaries from. I wish they would hurry up.

On a side note, I am steaming over my committee letters not being done yet… I’m thinking of sending my advisor an email today about needing them for my interview in August, maybe that will light a fire under her a**… She’s been telling me that she is going to get it done since mid June… It’s now mid July! And I asked for one in March! My other letters have been in since early May… Am I over reacting? When I emailed her a few weeks ago, she told me that I would not need my letters for my file to be looked at, and I’m absolutely sure that this is not true…

What's the point of applying early if my advisor isn't going to get the letters in on time??? 😡

if your other letters meet the schools requirements then i wouldn't sweat it too much, yet.

Gator!!! How was the interview!?!?

My bad man I just looked back and realized you were talking about july🙁
i have mine on 8/13 so i would very much appreciate it if you were there to do the job I claimed I was gonna do😀

Youll be alright. Good luck!!!

In other news, I just got Western's E-mail which means I'll be submitting after I write the essays tonight.

Oh my letters meet the requirement! BUT they get sent out when the committee letter is done! So it all has to wait on my advisor... Ugh.

I'm in the same boat. Isn't it terrible to have things completely out of your hands?

I'm sorry Noshie, I'd definitely try to call and speak with whoever the comittee writer is. Its getting to be crunch time now and you need to get those letters out! Good luck! I'm pulling for you!

Whats everyone doing for the length of western's essays?? The instructions just say

"Enter your answer to each Essay question. Please limit your comments to one page."

Are they talking 1 page for each, double spaced? single spaced? 1 page total?

I know exactly how you feel. I have a letter writer that is dragging their feet and I'm worried he is not gonna have it in before my Erie interview even though I told him I need it before then.

o and for COMP, we only make one application even if choosing both COMP sites right?

I'm in the same boat!!! My DO letter is not in yet and it s driving me crazy! My committee letter just got completed on Monday and my advisor snail mails them, so next week the schools might start getting them. I agee, I hate not being in control! We are all still SUPER early, I just have to keep reminding myself of that.

Haha I remind myself of that too! I have one DO letter from a one day shadow, but the DO I shadowed for 30 hours is dragging his feet to write me a letter!!!! I know these guys are doctors but come on 😉

I've got two DO letters, one from the Dr. I met through the AOA mentor program and one from the Dr I work for. Im scared to use the letter from the one I work for though because he didn't want any kind of information from me and I have seen his writing and its not all that impressive 😳 I think i'm gonna stick with the AOA mentor and if I need to send an update LOR later send the DO I work for's letter

im about to send an email out just to make sure.

I spoke with Robin in admissions today (btw they are great answering the phones and answering questions) and she didn't really have an answer to how to fill them out. At first she wasn't aware that it was 4 separate boxes then told me its a scroll bar but try not to have to use the scroll, which would limit it to about 10 words  I let her know that it was a very very small box if that was the case and you couldn't really write much.

Basically what we worked out was that it should fit in last year's application... which doesn't help anyone who didn't apply last year. She said it could be single or double spaced didn't matter and basically they just want you to remain on target.

For reference, last year's application had these allotted spaces for the questions they asked.

Describe research: 12 lines
Teaching Experience: 17 lines
Shadowing Question: 28 lines
Expectations Question: 28 lines
Community Service: 28 lines

Each of the longer essays comes to just over a half page single spaced with Times New Roman size 12. Hope this helps.

Thanks Dan, I already made all of mine either half a page or a little longer in Calibri 11, which ends up being a fair amount smaller than TNR :-/. Oh well, I guess we swapped roles with regard to our TUCOM-CA secondaries 😛.

Ps. Anyone submit Western yet and not get a payment screen? It just gave me the signature page and then went to the submitted applications screen.

Finally!!! My advisor uploaded the committee letter, and they are getting sent out today or tomorrow! Woohoo! I didn't even bug her about it yet... Haha.

For those of you with COMP double campus questions, I emailed the admissions advisers and received a lovely email from Cameron. Stating:

"the applications for DO-NW and DO-Pomona are handled separately and will require separate application documents and fees. Application items for both should be returned to the address below.

.Western University of Health Sciences.
309 E. Second Street,
Pomona, CA 91766"

I emailed her back because I don't understand how we are supposed to stress why we want to attend the OR campus with essay #4. I'll keep you updated! 🙂

ahh good to know. i finally got around to checking my mail and she basically just said that if I find I need more room, I am more than welcome to double space. guess ill be doin wut all of u are doin and writing a half page single space.

so if we're applying to both campuses, we have to do two separate applications?

@ noshie: they probably went on SDN and realized they better send yours out ASAP haha

so if we're applying to both campuses, we have to do two separate applications?

After speaking with Robin Johnson, one of the admission counselors, who was extremely nice I might add, we will have to submit two applications. One to each campus. The secondary invites we received were JUST to the Pomona campus program. So just fill it out and everything will be good to go for that one. The secondaries for the Lebanon Program will be coming out "probably sometime next week" per Robin. So just wait on that one. She also stated that they were going to be mostly similar, except for a few questions (essay #4 comes to mind). So CA is good to go, and we are waiting on the OR secondary invites.

Excellent, this answers the questions I just posted in the WesternU/COMP thread 😀 Thank you!

You don't submit a payment on Western's online, you have to mail them a check along with the signature page.
