UMich twitter update:

"File review meeting concluded-disappointed in the files read---too many "box checkers". Need a Blimpy burger & relax by watching the Tigers."

I hate being under review

second the sentiment. i just need a drink....

does "box checker" mean someone who just does EC's to check off the boxes, but has no real commitment?

i think box checker might mean that they just checked off the boxes for all the schools on amcas without giving it a second thought? but that's 100% guess

There is no reason to feel badly if you were passionate about something and committed yourself to it - be proud of your accomplishments.

edit: I believe "box-checkers" are people who saw medical school admission as more of a checklist of activities that they had to participate in to get into medical school, without showing any true commitment to any of them.

yea that sounds more plausible

I'm confused - I've been at "File Complete - Under Review" for a week now, but how is that any different than what you're seeing? Did you guys get an update with something else that's not an II or Rejection/Deferment?

That is the same thing I have. I've been that way since June 22

The tension is killing me

no updates yet, something is stirring in the depths of adcom decisions! or they are updating their stats. 🙂

Did the # of applicants just go up, and # of IIs decrease?

Right here is my #1 choice. Love Ann Arbor. Got a chance to visit the campus last week and it was amazing. I've also spoken to Director Ruiz (is he the one who manages the twitter account?). He told me about the importance of getting your stuff in early. And it also seems as if the MCAT and SCIENCE GPA are very critical. I know I won't be holding anything back. I am applying to a few other top tier schools, but Michigan seems like the perfect place for me. Good luck to everyone.

Random Q: Do any of you know if UMich sends interview offers in batches?

where's everyone seeing this new admissions tracker? i've been on the admissions website and it still says numbers from july 1st.

Does anyone know what sort of opportunities exist in the Cardiovascular Center (the really nice building) for UMich medical students? It looks really interesting to me.

I have 1600 characters at exactly 250 words. You guys think we can just go with the word count they put?

Am I the only person that notices the blatant, completely undeserved condescension in these tweets?

person sounds fat too, maybe too many blimpy burgers. not even putting up a fight tonight, already thinking about getting those thick fingers on two greasy buns, rationalizing this indulgence as "i have to read applications all day... I DESERVE THIS!" Oh sweet resignation.

Quite frankly... every time i read these i get the douche chills.

"Reading SDN often affirms our decisions to pass on immature, angry, "bad fit" candidates. Perhaps they'll get in medical school but not ours"

You dun' got called out by an adcom. ROFL. I dont think I've ever seen anything this funny on SDN.

Like only obese people eat cheeseburgers? I dont know what Blimpy burger is, but I'm hoping I'll be able to find out as a med student next year! If I can even get my primary app submitted and verified...

Look, all im saying is no need to disparage all these honest, hard working people. Future doctors or not.

I guess they don't like being unfairly judged either.

I dunno, I've never done the job, but I can't even imagine how much douchery and cheesiness adcoms must have to read on a daily basis.

If I read personal statements starting with sentences like "From the second I held the dead orphan baby who had just succumbed to AIDS in Africa, I knew I wanted to be a doctor," I would need a lottt more than burgers and fries to survive the experience. I would probably have to start drinking on the job.

Edit: you do realize that I was quoting a tweet from them, which was quite possibly a response to your post, right? It was posted right after your comment lol.

LOL, ok I was just re-reading what I posted, and I didn't really make it clear that it was a recent tweet from them.

I screen-capped it for the lulz... Just cuz I've never seen an adcom call someone out over something on SDN.

No i totally get that you were quoting there twitter haha.

Ya, read the next tweets.

Guess they don't think "box checkers" is insulting.

Well, they just answered your question! Lol. I actually like the person tweeting now, he/she is pretty funny. It takes a pretty cool, non-stuck up person to be tweeting about this SDN stuff.

To answer the question posed on twitter...

Treatment for douche-chills: 10 mg douchacillin, 2x per day.

@UMichMedAdmiss UMich Med Admissions

Me and my 10 colleagues are contacting our clinical directors to see if we can find the treatment protocol for "douche chills"-update soon!

They've also tweeted tonight about how they don't appreciate insulting posts on here. Come on guys...

Lol ya I've been watching this unfold :corny: Laughed pretty hard quite a few times. I didn't do anything I swear! Ha

Saw the tweets and Googled a certain "phrase" and came here.

If anyone thought that it was robotic people reading your secondaries, here's your answer! UMichMedAdmiss has a sense of humor  (and a social life on Saturday night which is more than I can say for myself this particular weekend 😳)

I totally agree, like I said, whoever tweets for them has been hilarious tonight. It has actually made me like the school even more!

completely agree. this school seems even more awesome than i used to think it was.

anyone from California (or Michigan residents) have any comments on adjusting to Michigan climate?

i'm from SD ATM and am pretty spoiled with the weather here 🙂 (being sunny/70-80 degrees all year round)

So I was just reading old posts from their twitter, and they say submitting by July 4th is a good target date?! I just submitted my AMCAS and it won't be verified for a month! Am I totally screwed here, since I won't be complete for so long?! Dang, I love this school and now I'm worried...

woah a month?!?!?

UMichigan does have a rolling admission, so it may hurt your chances a bit because of this...

But if you have a great application/stats/secondary then I think you still have a good chance! 😉

Haha, at my interview day, there were a bunch of Cali kids. I remember Ruiz saying something along the lines of... "There's no such thing as poor climate. Only poor clothing choices."

Get a nice down winter coat and some boots, and you'll be fine. 🙂

The winters have been pretty cold around here lately, but its nothing you can't get used to!

Best Twitter out there. For some of yalls sake I hope they can't match your SDN name to your file.

heh, I am definitely identifiable. I felt the twitter seemed directed towards me because I had it sent to to my phone via text. I had to take it off because it was too much 😛

loua0731 and camierz, thanks for your insight! The closest place I been to near Michigan was Chicago for a conference, and it was really hard to get used to during the winter due to the wind chills (my face felt like it was going to fall off!).

I'd be happy just to get a secondary here. No name undergrad and average sGPA, hope a good MCAT, ECs and cGPA can help. It's a reach school for me, but I'd at least like the chance to play!

They don't screen before sending out secondaries so prepare to be happy!

Thanks! For some reason, it seems like this school moves extra fast. I didn't think interview invites started coming this early either. Ugh feel like such a slacker over this.
