Yeah, it usually takes a little more than a month after you're verified to get the secondary. Almost everybody gets one, and with your stats you def didn't need to worry. Best of luck!

PS this thread has sorta died...what's everybody up to these days?

apart from applying to med school that is 😀

Interview Invite on 10/5 at Duluth Campus! IS, 30P, 3.45 cGPA. So stoked to interview at Duluth can't wait!

anyone know when the first day of interviews was? and anyone interviewed here already care to share some details? thanks!

Im predicting invites will be comming out at the end of this week or begining of next week...based upon complete-invite intervals. I worked my behind off on this secondary so I am looking forward to hearing from them.

I interview next week, and I can share my experience afterwords. I'm looking forward to interview day! The construction around campus is making me a little worried transportation and parking wise. Hopefully, I can navigate it.

Great. looking forward to hearing about it. 👍

Interviews started a few weeks ago at U of M and are ongoing...my boyfriend is an MS4 interviewer for the school.

And, yes, traffic is pretty bad since the main street (Washington) on campus is shut down. Make sure to allow extra time to get to where you're going. 🙂

Great, Great. Thank you very much for the info

Anyone gonna check out the coffee hour w/ current med students the night before their interview?

will be there oct 24th! not sure i'm in state or OOS haha...i recently moved to MN (3 months ago) and technically changed my legal residence from colorado, but since i haven't been here a year i'm not sure where i'm considered IS.

I'll second this, definitely plan your route way ahead and check the road construction maps if you're going to do any driving. They're doing work on quite a few of the main arteries right around campus and it makes for a real headache if you aren't familiar with the area.

Good luck :luck:

Interview today! I'm IS, completed around 9/14.

Soo excited!

Longest rejection packet I've gotten - three pages! Best of luck to those of you with interviews or still waiting to hear back!

Interviewed at Duluth late September. Awesome school, very tight knit student body and faculty. The school is very serious about its mission, so if you're not seriously considering family medicine, and if you're not from a John Mellencamp small town, it'll be tough to get an interview. Be sure to discuss rural family medicine at length in the int.

II today from the Twin Cities. Right now they're scheduling for mid-late Nov. Really excited for the interview!

Complete mid September. IS, 3.7 and 35

When were you complete?...If you dont mind me asking.

Solid scores... 32q and 3.8 gpa. PhD. OOS. Many years living in Native American communities, and a commitment to rural practice. I hoped that I would have been a good fit. oh well, moving on. Good luck everyone else!

How accepting is UMN of re-scheduling interviews? I'm supposed to be interviewing this Friday, but I've had a conflict come up and need to reschedule it. I'm going to call them Monday and ask, but just wanted to ask on here first. I'm hoping to bump it to next Monday instead.

Also, where are most people staying when they interview?

I stayed at the Days Inn on University. It's 100 bucks a night after tax and they have a shuttle that will drop you right off at the Phillip Wangensteen building (where your interview is). I also heard there's a Radisson for 125 a night (another interviewee told me about that one) which I heard is also very close to the U. Both of those are great choices, but I just know about the Days Inn personally.

Good luck with your interview!

Care to describe your interview day experience? You don't have to reveal the locations of any secret underground bunkers or anything...unless that's an interview question, and would possibly help my chances 🙂

From what I understand from looking at last years thread, they're very flexible about re-scheduling. Don't hesitate to call diggidy

i interviewed at duluth in mid sept. wonder if i will hear back today... :/

this was one of the most relaxing interviews i had! the faculty interviewer was awesome, the student interviewer was great and i really loved the facilities. the faculty interviewer was very encouraging and they (maintaining anonymity) had everything except for grades and mcat and they actually looked at my stuff ahead of time and devised questions off of it. the student interviewer didn't have any of that stuff (so just keep that in mind). i honestly thought i did the best at this interview which is ironic because this is the one i have the least chances of getting in because i'm oos (which kind of breaks my heart haha).

one drawback: no breakfast - if you're staying at a hotel (say the days inn) go to the continental breakfast there and eat there first and then go to the day. the lunch is fine because you're eating in the cafeteria, but if you're a breakfast person, go ahead and eat first. and as with any interview day you're going to be hanging out with your fellow interviewees all day and there is a lot of wait time. i'd suggest getting to know your other interviewees just so it's more enjoyable or you can be the antisocial one and just bring stuff to read. if you have any other questions feel free to PM me! good luck to us all!

Sweet, thanks for the info! And I wouldn't worry too much about your chances. OOSers have about a 50-55% acceptance rate post-interview, which isn't much worse than for ISers (looking at last years thread). Sure, way more OOSers are cut pre-interview, but once everyone reaches the interview stage it's pretty much a level playing field.

Btw did they mention how long interviewees can expect to wait to hear back about decisions? Thanks again.

that's good to hear about the OOS stuff. they said 6-8 weeks but judging from last year's threads and posts that could drag out but wit the way my interview day went (really good) i'm holding out and being optimistic!!!!

For IS applicants with interview invitations: about how long was the turnaround between submitting your application and getting an interview invite?
Thanks!

I think in general it's about a 30 day wait...see previous posts. I'm running close to my 30 day mark, would like to see an email and NOT a letter in the mail, as this seems to be a sign of interview invite or a rejection respectively.

I had roughly a 30 day turnaround between submission of my secondary and the interview invite.

Does anyone know how heavily the University of Minnesota weighs the interview with a medical student as compared to the interview with the faculty member?

I would think that they're equal because I've heard of horror stories of people not taking the student interview (at other schools) as seriously and that was what might have cost them. That being said I think that the student interview can't really help that much, but can hurt you a lot if you don't take it seriously. I wouldn't underestimate either interview personally and I would treat them both like you're interviewing with a high level official.

Has anyone who interviewed at Twin Cities in late September heard of any acceptance decisions going out yet?

Has anyone attempted to request an In-Area interview? Does anyone know if they are open to this?

i've been complete at TC since mid august. IS.. though i was accepted to duluth so maybe thats why. i'm very happy with duluth but just curious about TC.

I interviewed in that time frame. I called them yesterday and asked if adcom has began the process and if so, do they have any updates to the expected timeline communicated to us during the interview (i.e. 6-8 weeks). For what it is worth, the answer I got was: yes they have been meeting and 6-8 weeks is still a reasonable expectation.
