So I was accepted almost two weeks ago but never received the packet in the mail and am worried about missing the acceptance window. Anyone else still waiting on materials?

Congrats on the acceptance! I'd just go ahead and call right away. I'm sure it won't be a huge deal.

No, definitely no secondary. My primary was just verified on Wednesday. At my other schools, they requested a fee on Wednesday or Thursday after my primary was verified. After they received my fee, they sent additional emails saying that now that my payment was processed, they would begin review of my primary application. I haven't heard ANYTHING from Minnesota yet. Do they review primary applications before asking applicants to pay a fee? I'm worried that something fell through the cracks and my application is sitting there in a "waiting for payment" file.

Remember though...it takes some time for you to recieve the secondary. Contrary to a few posts on here made earlier they do have a "screening" process. Therefore I would remain patient...it took most people a few weeks to get it, including myself. So yes they do review before asking for money. The fee section is within the secondary so once you get that you'll be handing over the 60 bucks .👍

INTERVIEW! SO EXCITED. This is one of my dream schools, no question.

No ties to the state, either, except a significant other.

OOSers have about a 50-55% acceptance rate post-interview, which isn't much worse than for ISers (looking at last years thread). Sure, way more OOSers are cut pre-interview, but once everyone reaches the interview stage it's pretty much a level playing field.

This is really encouraging to know! I'm looking forward to visiting the U. FYI: My II came a lot later after my secondary submission. I know reading this thread it's been ~30 days for many people, but for me it was more like 2 months.

Secondary Received: Late July
Secondary Returned: Late August
II: Late October

So chin up if you're still waiting to hear and don't give up hope! :luck::xf::luck: And congratulations to those already accepted. :claps::highfive:

It sounds like I was accepted around the same time as you, and my letter just came in the mail so I'm guessing yours should be arriving any day now! You could definitely call and double check, though. The deposit just has to be mailed back within 2 weeks of the letter being postmarked, if I remember correctly.

If you don't mind me asking, when did you submit you’re secondary? I submitted mine on October 17th. I am extremely anxious!

Don't stress. Submitted my secondary 8/28, received an II 9/29. So it takes about a month. You've got plenty of time left to hear back.

@ldf27
>Agreed. I submitted my secondary on 9/23 ('bout 7weeks ago) and still have not heard back from them yet. Im thinking that because this is the busy part of the admissions cycle, application might take abit longer than the typical 30day turn around time seen earlier. Just my two cents...

Interview invite today to Twin Cities campus! So excited to hear back from them.

For those who want to know:
Primary sent in early August. Invited to submit secondary Oct. 11 and submitted the same day. Interview invite today via e-mail. IS

Got a phone call from Dean White earlier today. ACCEPTED!!!! I was not anticipating such a quick decision, interviewed in mid october.

Congrats! Yea, the turnaround was much quicker than I anticipated.. maybe we will be future classmates! 🙂

Are these rejections Pre or Post interview? And IS or OOS?

So why does everyone love Minnesota (Twin Cities), aside from the fact that it's #6 or so nationwide in patient care?

I am very excited about this school, but my parents don't even want to let me go interview there, because they're ignorant and think Minnesota is Montana. Or Alaska. Which it might be, but only when it comes to the weather.

I need more objective pros in my arsenal, and testimonials that aren't just my impression, because my family never believes me when I say something.

It's a highly regarded medical school. Unless you are sitting on an acceptance from Yale, that should be enough for your parents.

I'm a little confused as to why your parents are dictating where you interview, but I'll just skip over that.

Just have them look over the website. Minneapolis is the silicon valley of biomedical engineering and device development. Minnesota did the first heart transplant. Plenty of other things.

Just got wait listed post interview at the U. OOS and interviewed on 10/14 and a little bummed. Had what I thought was an awesome interview so I don't know what happened.

I felt the same way. I interview the Monday before you did

Accepted to Duluth last week and pretty excited! My interview was very similar to what others have been saying; very relaxed, conversational, we worked through my application, and talked a lot about rural family medicine.

Submitted AMCAS: 6/2
Received Secondary: 6/22
Submitted Secondary: 8/29
Interview Invite: 9/23
Interview: 10/7
Acceptance: 11/9

IS, non-traditional, 3.4 overall, 3.6 science, 28O. I've appreciated the information others have posted so figured it's time to post my own. Hope it helps. Best of luck to everyone!

I got accepted to duluth yesterday. Out of state, 28M mcat and 3.6 gpa. I was accepted to Medical College of Wisconsin too and will probably attend there however. Not 100% sure yet!

Just wanted to double check that all I need to send back to accept a spot at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities is the deposit and the Declaration of Intent form?

That is what I sent...though I haven't received any sort of confirmation notice that they've received it. I'm thinking about calling tomorrow just to make sure.

Tkuemmet, can I ask when you interviewed. I interviewed a few weeks ago and I am eagerly awaiting the decision.

anyone know the number of applicants/secondary invites/interview invites/acceptance at TC? Just got my secondary and I'm wondering if it's worth applying at this stage. I'm a Canadian applicant.

I already sent in a secondary to the Twin Cities campus and am now thinking I should have applied to Duluth as well. I called the office today and was able to have the Duluth secondary sent to me but I'm wondering if it's too late in the cycle to submit it. I know the deadline isn't until January but since the class is small...

Does anyone have a sense for how many interviews/acceptances they have offered/will offer? Advice? I don't want to shell out another $75 if it's totally not worthwhile.

Thanks!

Numbers I got when I interviewed at Duluth was 1279 applicants last year, 126 interviewed, and 60 entered. They didnt say how much of the class had been filled at that time but said that every week they meet to discuss those interviewed, and based on points given to them by members of the committee they accept, wait list or reject. Hope that helps.

Withdrew post-interview invite. Great school, but won't have my prereqs completed on time. Best of luck to everyone!

I submitted my secondary on Sept. 10, after getting it really late -- Sept. 1. All my other schools sent me theirs in July/early August. Keep your head up -- the U of Minnesota has a reputation for being slow at reviewing apps.

they're dictating where i interview because that's just our dynamic -- they're really controlling. also, they pay for my flights. i can scrounge a bit of cash for my trip out there and go anyway, but that has risks.

they told me that if i set one toe in minnesota i'll get disowned, that i'm only going/interviewing over their dead bodies, etc. they're mentally unstable, yeah. fun times.

I understand that if they're paying for your flights, then they would like to have some say in where you interview. It still is so sad to me, though, that they don't realize what an amazing school (and state) Minnesota is... I have lived in Minnesota my entire life, and it is home.

Yea...it's cold. But there's something wonderful to be said for having real seasons. Skiing, snowshoeing, just looking at how beautiful it is outside when you're warm inside snuggled up with your Biochemistry textbook and cup of hot chocolate.

Yea...we have ridiculous accents. But most people have some sort of accent or a list of terminology that they claim is normal (p.s... it's "pop"..not "soda").

Yea...it isn't New York City or L.A. But that's part of why it's AWESOME! The Twin Cities is renowned for being a great place for young people (and also happens to be one of the most active cities in America). There's TONS to do, and everybody that I know that lives here absolutely loves it. And to boot, everyone's super friendly.

And last but not least...yea, it isn't Harvard or Yale. But Minnesota is a great school. It's one of the best state university medical schools in the country (especially for primary care), it's in a great location, and the students are extremely happy. The M1's that I met on my interview day sealed the deal for me..they were so down-to-earth, fun, friendly, and obviously..smart. I also personally know several M.D.'s that have graduated from the U. of M. Twin Cities Medical School to go on to their first choice residency programs.

In short... this place is pretty awesome! I hope for your sake that your parents will reconsider.

Hey, for those of you who've been accepted/wait-listed: would you mind posting your wait time post-interview? I'm approaching 4 weeks myself, and I know they said 6-8 weeks at the interview (looking at last year's thread some people waited even longer), but I was wondering if maybe things were running a bit faster this year.

Thanks!

I got the call about 4 1/2 weeks after my interview
