I understand UAB sends an auto invite for MD/PHD application for certain MCAT score. What is that score if anyone knows?

UABs average gpa was 3.76 last year for matriculants. You should be okay if you aren't far below that and have a high mcat. Btdubs...I love how you posted this in souths thread too haha. I've interviewed at both places already. UAB invited for interview after 5 days. South took longer..like a month lol. Good luck

Hello all,

I just submitted my secondary this past week and was just wondering if anybody had a time frame of how long it will be before i can reasonably expect to hear something. Also, am i behind in the game? everything is submitted and complete as of today, but it took my primary app over 5 weeks to be verified. One last thing, my gpa is on the low side but ONLY b/c of my freshman year, I have made all A's and one B+ since then, will this be factored in?

Thanks everyone and I look forward to meeting you all next summer when we begin medical school!
I submitted my secondary to UAB 9/7 and it was marked as "complete and under review" within the next few days. I received an II on 10/2 for the next Thursday (10/11). So, about a month from start to finish. Good luck to you!

Anyone who interviewed receive campus preferences yet?

Could any current students comment on what its like living in Birmingham? I've heard some mixed reviews as to the quality of the city and neighborhoods.

I interviewed already as well and on the secondary website when you check status of application there is a button that says: "To submit campus preferences click here." But when you click it it just takes you back to the secondary homepage.😕😕

I could be wrong, but I think I remember Dr. Smith saying that it isn't until after you have been accepted that they will ask for your campus preferences.

I thought I remembered him telling us we would get an email and then we would be able to rank our campus preference and that it didn't factor into their decision on acceptance. I know on the website the link doesn't work for me either. It could be taking some time since they just announced the Montgomery campus.

I called them about it and they said Dr. Smith does not have the form for campus preference ready yet. It seems sort of weird, since Oct 15th is this Monday.

It is most likely taking a little while longer this year since UASOM is incorporating the new Montgomery branch campus - forms need to be redone and logistics worked out etc...

You are not supposed to add a campus preference on the secondary page. When you are accepted, they will send an e-mail. Sometime after that, they will send you instructions on ranking campus preference. I have been accepted, but I still haven't received a campus preference form... so don't worry about it! 😎

Anyone hear anything yet?
Not yet :-/

I wasn't really clear on whether we would actually hear on the 15th or not. Do you have any insight or better understanding about this whole process? Dr. Smith made it sound like the 15th was the earliest they were allowed to send acceptances, but not that they necessarily would send out an e-mail that day.

this wait is killing me....aghhh. are we expecting to hear back this week?

I'm not really sure when to expect to hear back. Looking at last year's thread, they didn't hear anything until around October 27th from best I can tell. This wait is killing me and now I know why they say this is the hardest part, and its only been a couple hours..

+1

The 27th?! Ugh. Longest 2 weeks of my life. I'm actually afraid it will be even more delayed with the recent announcement of the Montgomery campus... Don't know if it will make any difference or not.

I finally got an interview invite today! It took two weeks and a day and I was freaking out pretty much the entire time. My interview is scheduled for 10/25. Roll Tide

Congratulations! Are you IS or OOS and would you mind PMing or sharing your stats?

Who is this Mark that you are talking about 😉 I am an IS student and yes I will send you a PM with my stats

My status was just changed to "Remain Under Consideration for Interview." Has anybody else had this change happen recently? or does anybody know what to expect, if anything, from here? thanks!

I applied very late last year and got that status in January, but was ultimately rejected. I'm pretty sure it just means what it says...they may interview you at a later date after seeing other applications. Better than a straight rejection!

I have had the status "Secondary Complete & Under Review" for about a month. I'm OOS. Bad sign?

Based on last year's thread, it looked like ~10 SDN members were put in 'Remain Under Consideration for Interview' status and 4 of those were later given interview invites. Of the four, the dates between status changing from 'Remain Under Consideration' to receiving an invite ranged from 5 days to 2.5 months.

I have also had this status since ~9/13. Based on last year's thread it appears that there can be a pretty big range in the timing. It looks like a good number of people hear one way or another within a month but there was also evidence of people being given interviews after 3 months of 'Secondary Complete and Under Review' and an individual being changed to 'Remain Under Consideration' after 5 months.

It took approximately 3 days for my status to change from "On Hold" to invited for an interview.

That typically means you are a strong candidate. I would say odds are better than 95% that you will be in. I stayed under consideration and was not invited along with one other person on SDN that I know of. There were shortcoming in my application so I am trying again.

Does anyone know if Alabamais receptive to update letters or enails? I have recently obtained a job as a scribe and would like to inform them

Hoping for good news next week!! I believe the Admissions said they will send out campus preferences soon.

This may have been posted already, but I heard it from a former UAB Ad Com (who's now on the board at ACOM) that UAB expanded their size 45 slots. Good news for those of you appyling this year!

That's awesome news. I know during my interview they were saying there would be more spots with the new Montgomery campus being announced. I thought I heard them say 186, but 45 extra spots would really be nice. So the entering class is going to be around 220?

I've interviewed and have not heard back. As far as I can tell and have heard so far is that no one has been accepted yet.

Mmhm, she said 225 I believe.

Praying that this is the week. I'm sure we all need some good news

Anyone heard yet?

If someone interviewed the first week of October, when might they hear?

They haven't sent out any acceptances yet. We are all waiting anxiously lol. If you interviewed in the beginning of October and aced it and they loved you then you may get accepted first round. Fingers crossed lol

Fingers crossed!

Seems like last year the first acceptances came in before Halloween.

Various news reports (Bham Business Journal, Montgomery Advertiser, al.com, etc.) and press releases (UAB and Baptist-Montgomery) indicate that the class size will increase by 10 beginning with the 2013 incoming class and then 10 more with the 2014 incoming class. Following this logic, it seems that the size of the class starting in 2013 will be 186 and the size of the class starting in 2014 will be 196. This is tied to the opening of the Montgomery campus (as previously noted). The mention of an additional 45 spots may be over a number of years.

Still no word for anyone here? This is the worst kind of torture. Jk..........but really.:xf::xf::xf:

Not yet. I was hoping since its Thursday that maybe the committee was meeting and they'd send out some accepts after that, but I think they meet next Thursday so I don't know. I'm anxiously waiting too
