2014-2015 East Carolina University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I interviewed the last week of October and my status changed yesterday as well. I don't think there is a real, up-to-date connection between the status and the committee actually reviewing your application. Just there to keep you somewhat in the loop.

I interviewed the same time in mid-October but I haven't heard anything back yet. My status hasn't even changed from the interview info update:/

Hey everyone! I'm an M1 currently at Brody and I remember being in your shoes last year and being on these forums allllll the time waiting to hear back. I was wait listed so it was an even longer wait for me! Let me know if you have any questions, Brody really is a wonderful place. And to anyone with interviews coming up, I'm one of the student leaders for the tour on Wednesday, 1/14!

Rejected just now via email.

Interviewed 10/21.

Stats: 3.5//30 (upward trend). Sad, but good luck everyone

Sorry about that. I hope good news finds you later on in the cycle. Stay positive!

This waiting is killing me, does anyone have a rough estimate when another batch of decisions will be made; I interviewed November 11th? Also, does anyone know how they feel about letters of interest, I was thinking about writing one up?

I think I read somewhere that they meet on the 1st and 15th of each month? And I believe they generally look at people more than once before accepting them. I interviewed 10/29 and have heard nothing beyond a status change.

From what I understand, I'm pretty sure they meet once a week and discuss all applicants who have interviewed. Regarding the letter of interest, I say do it and try to weave some updates in there..it can't hurt--good luck!

So I just checked their admissions update page and its up to 74 offers as of 2/1 isn't that only three more than the last update? This is getting ridiculous it's time to roll those offers out. I interviewed in October and have not heard anything, anyone else in the same boat?

I interviewed in October as well, only received a status change..

It was January 8th. I don't think they go in order of interview dates though.

So there is some interesting news about ECU and their financial situation floating around. There are rumors they may lose accreditation, thoughts on this

Here's a statement just release by the chanellor on ECU's website.

They're not actually in danger of losing their accreditation. The issue is that the state has recently cut funding for Brody. Additionally, Brody supports a large low-income population and many of their patients are on medicaid. They get less reimbursement for medicaid than private insurance. Brody was built to support this population, but they're unable to do it without support from the state.

I definitely wouldn't worry about them closing soon, though.

Any update on your status? I interviewed in November and am still waiting.

Would assume that they offer ~75 initially -- the size of the class -- then draw from the waitlist afterwards.

As of March 1, 2015, we have .....
  • Received 982 AMCAS applications
  • Received 900 Supplementary applications
  • Interviewed 481 applicants
  • Made 83 offers
(Generally it takes 120-135 offers to fill a class.)

So do yall think that anyone not accepted by now will just be waitlisted?

I don't think so. The admissions website says that all decisions won't be made until late April. I think the offers have just slowed down because they're waiting for accepted applicants to say they plan on going elsewhere.

I thought it was Wednesdays for some reason...but I hope so because I haven't seen an acceptance on here in a hot minute. gimme dem seatzz

I have cried so much that I have a headache. I have no idea what went wrong. I can't even get a job because the employers all say "no" when I mention medical school. Hey @BioEngMD, could you PM me with any suggestions, seeing that you have been a successful reapplicant?

Rejected yesterday after late October interview. 3.66 36 first time applicant. One interview left & still waiting for one post-interview decision.

Has anyone heard more about Brody's possible closing? I was accepted earlier and I really want to attend here. I just worry about the financial situation of the school. I know that McCrory visited the campus and allocated some funds. But that was only for two years, right? What happens after the two years are up? 🙁 What do you all think?

Please do NOT let this discourage you from attending Brody! That press release was twisted and taken a bit out of context and the numbers that back that data up are years old. We are accredited through the 2019-2020 school year. And you graduate by then! I am a current student and they would not have accepted students for the class of 2019 if they thought we would close. In fact, UNC would be in the same boat if they did not own a hospital to offset their deficit. If you have any more questions, please ask!

Also McCrory has pledged money to fill this deficit after meeting with Brody faculty earlier this month.

Lol maybe one day I'll receive a decision from here....6 months and counting.

...Does that mean everyone else is rejected? Do they mostly pull from alternate list from here on out for the 50 or so offers they *usually* still have to give out?

Scratch that. Just got an email for the alternate list. I'm declining though. Wishing everyone else GOOD LUCK!!!
10/2 interview

Waitlisted. There's still hope. :xf: Does anyone know how large their alternate pool is and if they rank the list or re-evaluate as needed?

Last year's thread said they have enough on the waitlist to refill the class if needed? Maybe 85 I guess. If they haven't offered any more acceptances since March 1st (which they probably have) then there could be atleast 40 more people accepted!

Would assume that they offer ~75 initially -- the size of the class -- then draw from the waitlist afterwards.

I wish they were more clear about this. If they were to give out 120-135 offers, 40-55 would have to reject offers for them to pull from an alternate list of 80 applicants? So I'm sure that your assumption is correct.
