2014-2015 Howard University Application Thread

Have any accepted students received any information regarding financial aid? Does anyone know when that goes out?

Have anymore interviews gone out? I'm remaining optimistic

I believe the last person to be accepted interviewed beginning of Feb. Has anyone who interview end of Feb or March heard anything?

Hey so I still haven't gotten anything, rejection or interview, yet and was wondering if this means ive been rejected. I dont have much hope at this point but just want to know if I still have a very slim chance or it is over.
we are in the same boat, lol..and am pretty sure there are others who haven't heard anything at all...which leads me to ask,... has anyone here had the chance to talk to any admissions person over the phone recently to see what's going on?

Has anyone actually been rejected pre-II? This seems to be the one thread where there's literally no news -.- seems like a lot of people who haven't been offered an interview haven't been rejected either

March interviewer here. I haven't heard anything on my end. But I'm trying to remain patient.

I got a rejection email pre ii today

I'm sorry to hear that, but don't give up! I wish you the best of luck with other schools and in the future.

Thanks!

Out of the 35 schools I applied to, Howard is the only one I haven't heard back from. I can never manage to call during the scheduled hours 😡

What were your stats for the cycle, if you don't mind sharing?

Same with me but I only applied to 15... got rejected from everywhere and waitlisted at 1, totally freaking out now and getting ready to set up to apply again... T_T

Sorry pal!

Mind sharing your stats and when the office received your secondary app?
I don't want to give specifics, but about average for what they look for across the board mcat etc. Secondary acknowledgment early Sept

I am sorry @questions22 . Have you been accepted anywhere else?
I have! So don't feel sorry for me! I've also been WL some places. This def wasn't my first rodeo with applying to school so don't give up guys! I know it's an extremely nerve wracking process. (Sometimes I think way more than it has to/should be), but believe in yourself and your talents. You will end up right where you should be , even if it's not this cycle

I just received an interview invite today. In the email they said "INTERVIEW DATES AVAILABLE: APRIL 15 (one slot available) AND APRIL 21 (LAST PLANNED DAY)" So don't give up just yet, still II going out...
Yay! I'm happy for you

Hi there! Has any international student (green card holders excluded) heard anything yet?

What were your stats for the cycle, if you don't mind sharing?

I had an 3.1 undergrad GPA, 3.2 BCMP GPA, got a MS with a 3.8 GPA, a 25 MCAT score, a ton of volunteer, research and leadership experiences. Also, I've worked with URM, being an URM myself. I had 10 LORs. I was recently published in a scientific journal as second author.

I managed to get 6 interviews, 2 acceptances, 1 waitlist, 1 post-interview denial, 2 schools I'm waiting to hear from...

And 29 schools who either rejected me post-secondary...I missed the secondary deadline -_-....or I decided not to submit the secondary because the school was not a fit.

Same with me but I only applied to 15... got rejected from everywhere and waitlisted at 1, totally freaking out now and getting ready to set up to apply again... T_T

🙁. The process is tough. I mean, through this past year, I've had serious ups and downs. Good luck, I hope it works out.

hola, I'm a second year student at Howard. I'll start by saying that I have been where you all are and I am ridiculously nostalgic right now, reading all of these posts. I never really used this forum, but I see it's pretty useful for networking and keeping abreast. This seems like the biggest thing ever in life, but once you get in, it's only the beginning. #perspective

FIRST:

I scrolled around a little bit and I have some gems for you.

ADVICE:

1. If you have been interviewed, you are a viable candidate; be persistent.

2. Read the words of wisdom posted by the first year student (PMJ2012) a few posts before this one.

SECOND:

I've been asked to post the following:

a. Sometimes, when someone doesn't go to committee, admissions might be waiting for an additional piece of information before taking them to committee.

b. Sometimes, certain commitments have to be fulfilled - like reviewing BS/MD students early or students for PARP (which starts in May) so other students may be skipped over for a while in Admission committee to move on the programs that start earlier.

c. Sometimes admissions is waiting for other students to decline us (and they're being nagged every week, because it can be seen if and where they have been accepted) and admissions has to keep everything on hold. Once the class gets to about at 110 - acceptances are placed on hold until the declines come in. But we know declines will come in.

d. Yes, there is a wait-list/alternate list. It is the same thing. Called different things at different schools.

e. No, we don't use the APPLY/Howard system. It is not updated. This was mentioned when secondary information was dispersed. We use AMCAS for our database. Different schools use different systems. We don't have the time to keep both systems up-to-date.

f. Admissions does more than simply admit students. There are meetings to attend, reports to file, Recruiting (like the 35 high school students who visited on Wednesday most of the day); open houses, tours, papers to write etc. We get sick. We take vacation. We go to church. We do laundry. We sleep. <---- [lol...this made me laugh]

g. Admissions is like the tides: we send offers out...the deposits roll in...the declines roll out. It is ever changing daily. However, we keep very good records and stats and we know what we need to do to get a class in on time.

FINALLY:

Ms. Walk would like you all to know that she is a nice person...

[lol I hope no one called her mean. She's awesome.]

I wish you all the best in the process.
Be patient and do everything in your power; the rest you cannot control.

Blessings,

CBGIIIMD

Thank you so much for the words of encouragement.

Yes, thanks for the encouragement. But if you're like me and you haven't been extended an interview... It's pretty obvious what the outcome is going to be at this point. *le sigh* sorry to be THAT person.
It's easy to get frustrated but sometimes the delay might be an opportunity for us to grow better prepared for medicine in various ways. Stay strong

As the interview cycle begins to wind down I just wanted to encourage everyone in their pursuit. This journey towards becoming a physician is definitely not an easy one. And it's truly easy to get frustrated along the way. But I hope we will all be able to keep our passion alive. For those of us still waiting to hear back I pray we all remain hopeful. For those who haven't gotten an interview invite yet Pls know that this is not the end of the road. I believe the stumbling blocks in our path are only meant to be turned into stepping stones towards the threshold of success. And I pray you always have schools like Howard on top of your list. Their mission is what I believe should be the mission of medicine. They are training doctors more concerned about public health than private wealth.

Thank you for that encouraging sentiment @#Blessed! Let's all stay steadfast in our pursuits of medicine 🙂 I believe the admissions committee meets tomorrow the 15th, so hopefully we will get some good news. God bless!

Post interview rejection received today. I was really excited about coming to this school, pretty bummed.

I interviewed March 10th. I wasn't really expecting this but I guess it's one of those things. Wish you guys luck
I am truly sorry ! Don't loose hope. Just don't stop trying, keep applying !! Question for you all, are we suppose to get a sort of notification by the 15th of April? If anyone can comment about how many spots left for the interview day on April 21st, it will be much appreciated 🙂

Oh no man! I'm really sorry to hear that... But keep working hard and I hope everything works out. Now I'm nervous for my judgement :nailbiting:

I am very sorry to hear this news. Stay encouraged, ask for feedback and keep on pursuing your goal. In previous threads there are people that do not get accepted one year but are accepted the next year. Just keep believing in yourself ! I wish you nothing but success!

For any of the class of 2019 looking to live in The Blairs in Silver Spring if you say I referred you when you sign your lease you get a month off your rent. So message me if you are interested. I'm in the class of 2018 and really enjoy it here.

I interviewed today. I'm totally in love with HUCM! The students and faculty really are very warm and welcoming.

My interviewer straight up told me that the class is pretty much filled at this point, and we are being interviewed as "fillers" just in case there is some fluctuation in class size (people accepting other offers -which they're expecting).

Also, Ms. Walk said 8-10 people are interviewed at a time. I believe she also said the committee is meeting tomorrow.
